I really think UMHB only won because of the band, and I think I heard another cowbell in the stands. There were several questionable calls from the officials and I believe is this game is played 10 times UMHB wins like this once out of the ten times. Washington and Jefferson was not used to the harsh weather conditions in Belton- Oh and Yessir this is for you, If HSU didnt have to play UMHB they would be in the National Semi-Finals right now. There I think I got it all  :D

You are a PRICK. THATS JUST WRONG. Gotta say i do find the SWAGGER entertaining.

Ha ha ha ha- I think I may go to my room and cry  :). But on a serious note win or lose you will hear from me for sure. If we win I will encourage more and more people to change their opinion about the cru and hop on the bandwagon. If they lose I will try to be the first one on here conceding defeat regardless of the circumstances of defeat. You will not hear me complaining about the wind, or the fans, or the officials, or the team colors or whatever else people find to complain about. I just think that this is our best shot against UW-Whitewater, and I will admit we are the underdogs on Saturday. But I think this is an amazing team we have, and as they have said from the beginning they are out to prove a point to the nation and a win against UW-Whitewater will go along way towards proving that.

I was at both games in Whitewater last year and it was my worst experience as a fan losing to Whitewater at the Perk in the semi-final game. The guys were devastated and revenge is definitely on their minds. That's why they are so excited about playing against Whitewater. This journey to Salem woud not have been complete without a crack at UW-Whitewater.

They have not made it a Fathead but the picture is up in numerous places on campus. Also if they did make it a Fathead, I would be the first in line ;)

I guess I would have to be second then.   :D  I just wonder where my wife would let me put a picture that big, and with all that snow and Walter in the air.  I think my eyes are beginning to sweat abit thinking about that play again.  What a catch.

Quote from: Bill McCabe on December 08, 2008, 06:43:12 PMHardly the same as the other 30 teams in the playoffs if we happen to advance to the Stagg Bowl.  Frankly, I don't understand your apparent bitterness toward UMHB.  They have a great team and I think this may be their best team ever.

I'd be hard pressed to name one W&J starter that was better than his counterpart on UMHB.  The score could have been worse.
I'll work backwards.

The score could have been worse.  The score could have been closer.
UMHB is the better team, perhaps better at every position.  Never indicated anything to the contrary.
UMHB has a great team and it may be their best team ever.
Not bitter toward the Crusaders at all.  In fact, was on here as quickly as was possible, congratulating them on an impressive win.
And, finally, IF they advance to the Stagg Bowl, you're right.  But THAT was my point.  IF they advance to the Stagg Bowl.  30 teams that made the playoffs WILL NOT make the playoffs.  Two will.  And I believe that if UMHB doesn't beat UWW (a point I listed), the Crusaders '08 campaign will be one that "made the playoffs".  Nothing more.

What are you talking about?  You don't make any sense.  28 other teams would be thrilled to be in the semi finals.  That is a great season for any team.  Only 2 can make the Stagg Bowl and that is everyones dream.  Not getting there does not mean the season was only "making the playoffs."

Have to go with Bill here. Making the "Final Four" is an amazing accomplishment! To equate a Final Four team with a team that lost in the first round is suspect thinking at best!

Wow, 4 teams, (out of a approx. 237,) are 2008 NCAA D-3 Regional Champions!  Means a hell of a lot more than just, "making the play-offs."  Sounds like sour grapes to me.   ::)

Other than the schools themselves, very RARELY does ANYONE remember who made the semifinals in 1998.

Or 1993.

Or 2002.

Or 2005.

And so on.

Good luck, Cru.  Beat UWW.  Beat Mount/Wheaton winner.  Win it all!

I really AM hoping you do.
Been wrong before.  Will be wrong again.

Who cares what other people remember!  Fans are not always going to remember who got second place at the Stagg Bowl in '04... but I will.  It was important to me as a player.  Going to the Stagg Bowl and losing was a hell of a lot better than getting knocked out in the first round and just "making the playoffs."  No one is always going to remember who won the semi-final round vs. Mount Union in '04 when they were #1 in the country... but I will, because it was important to me.

So please don't downplay the importance of post-season games and look at it from simply a fan's perspective.  Fans come and go as their team wins and loses, and the game will never be anywhere close to as important to them as it is to those who are playing and coaching the game.  Please keep this in mind as we near the Stagg bowl.   If it was "RARELY" important to "ANYONE" then football, or any sport for that matter, would not be what it is today.  And what a sad thought that is...

GO CRU!!!!!

I remember after the Warhawks lost in the 05 and 06 Stagg Bowl, it was tossed in their faces many times that they had yet to bring home the Walnut and Bronze, (mostly by Cat and Johnnie fans.)  My response was that they had brought home the Walnut and Bronze, it was just silver, not gold, but it sure beat the hell out of watching it on TV.  Luckily after 07, that stopped.   ;) ;D  Anyway you cut it, being in the Final Four is a huge accomplishment for any team.

Crualum39,

Thank you for your insight and intensity.  It is a lesson to us fans to show up and cheer for our team with everything we have.  I have a confession to make, I will not be able to attend the game personally, but I will be cheering and screaming at the internet connection in my home.  Me and my family will done the Purple and Gold and cheer on the Cru!

Just my thought, but the Cru must simply be hungier than the Warhawks.  Both teams have talent at every position, both teams have a capable offense, both qb's are capable of controlling tempo, both have dominating defenses, and good if not great speical teams.  This is the Semi-finals and the opportunity to go to the Stagg Bowl.  Enough said!

Note: football413, great quote by Paul Dietzel, I am a life-long LSU fan, and  it is good to hear a quote from a very good coach.  Powerful and profound.

Gig Harbor Cat

thanks Crufootball,
We were all blown away that you guys took the L at Southern.  They are usually a pretty physical team and their QB is a streak player with ability.  thanks for the response.
As for your 04 team, they were a stud group.  That game went down to the wire  and could have gone either way.  Our D just stepped up against a very tough O of the Cru.
Again  good luck on your run for the Ring.

Gig Harbor Cat,

I too was at the 2004 Stagg Bowl.  You are correct it was a great game.  The defensive stand at the end with the Cru driving sealed the game for Linfield.  I tip my hat to the cats for a hard fought victory.  What a game.  We appreciate the support as we focus on the Warhawks this weekend.  Should be another great battle in this tough fought series.

Go Cru!

Stay focused boys, big game this weekend.

crufootball

Maybe I just have a bad memory but I rarely can remember who won the whole thing let alone who made it to the 1st, 2nd, quarters, semi's, or finals other than the Cru. If MUC had not won a majority of the last 15 or so Stagg Bowls there is no way I could tell you who won past a couple of years.

So yes while it is true that fans will not remember everything it does not change the fact that right now 235 would love to be playing so they could say they at least made it to this point.

The Forgotten Man

I was visiting my older son who is stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas and we decided to take in the UMHB vs WJ game.

Wow, UMHB was quite impressive. Good luck in the semifinals.

Thank your son for serving!

A little D3 football over the Thanksgiving break!  Life is good!

My opinion, the  Cru must win four phases this week to advance to the Stagg Bowl.  Three we talk about often the fourth is the one we need to be in the plus margin especially this weekend.

Offense, Defense, Special teams, and TURNOVERS!
