I read the article from the Temple paper and Coach Fred said he wanted to get more physical.  I hope they have a good recruiting year.

Never too early to start thinking about next year.  :) I count 18 seniors from the UMHB website, 8 on defense and 9 on offense, plus a kicker.  It looks like heavy losses in both lines, 2 DE, 3 DT, 5 OL, plus the starting QB, TE, and FB.

How does it look at the other schools?  HSU?

I thoroughly enjoyed this season.  Wish it was starting again in a few weeks.  Good luck to everyone in the off season.

I don't know if you are asking about ASC schools only, but since UMHB seems to play UWW every year, I thought I'd fill you in on UWW.

UWW has 6 seniors on their roster this year. 5 are starters. Lost are 2 OL, TE, NT, MLB. Everyone else is back. If you consider Anderson and Coppage a "two headed monster" at RB, this year's team has 7 "starters" that are either freshmen or sophomores.

It looks like UWW will be a power to be contended with again next year!   :)  Good luck this weekend.  We'll be pulling for Y'all in the Stagg Bowl.

Thanks Bill, hopefully we can do the west proud.

Also, I really think it's too bad about the blown call at the start of the 3rd Quarter (not being sarcastic). For whatever reason, I have a predisposition against referees and get very frustrated very quickly. I know missed calls are part of the game, but for whatever reason, I have a hard time letting it go when it affects my team. I can see how it would be frustrating in such a key play in the game. While I'm thankful UWW won, I'm not at all thankful a blown call by the referee contributed to it. Look forward to more great games  between UWW and UMHB and other ASC teams in the future!

The kickoff will go into the lore of D3 playoffs.

The fun thing about the game was 2 good programs just slugging it out.

Considering the elements, the game was well executed and UWW demonstrated it.

I wonder how good UWW really is!

It would be soothing to see a UWW monkey stomp of MUC.  (We non-UWW loyalists can have fun saying these things.    :)  )

Going back onto Ric's excellent website, the last time that MUC was monkey-stomped was a loss to John Carroll, 31-7, in 1989.

Ralph,

Belton does need 2 high schools...however, that is because they need to split Belton HS in two and have them both go 3A so we can compete.  We are not competitive at the 5A level!!  Especially in football and basketball.

Ralph Turner

Dave Campbell's Texas Football said Belton HS had 2466 students.  With some more growth that 2 more elementary schools suggests by 2018, I project that the high school may be up to 3000-3200.

Given the opportunities that high school offers, I like class sizes no larger than 400 per class or 1600 in a high school.

That gives pupils plenty of chances at leadership and extracurricular opportunities and puts one smack in the middle of 4A.  :)

Ron Boerger

You see a lot of the D/FW exurbs sizing their high schools so they stay in 4A these days, keeps the school population more manageable and lets students stay involved at a high level in whatever extracurricular activity they want.

The thing about BISD needing new schools really has nothing to do with Belton, it has more to do with Temple.  Some years back BISD and TISD swapped some land.  Temple got growing neighborhoods with a tax base and BISD  got a much larger, but more rural area.  To give you an Idea of how big BISD is, when I drove a school bus for BISD our boundaries touched the Gatesville, Salado, Temple, Killeen, Academy, Troy and Bartlett school districts.  The rural areas that Belton got are now the primary growth areas in Temple, and the tax revenue Belton receives from them is much greater than what they gave up.  So as Temple grows,  BISD grows, not TISD.  BISDs projected needs are largely based on growth projections for Temple.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Speaking of BISD...their taxes are freaking outrageous >:(. I pay Belton school taxes but live in Temple. There is a BISD Elementary between my house and Temple, yet my address is Temple. I live in a 92K house and pay almost 4K a year in taxes......it's pathetic.

On to what i'm actually here for....

I just want to congratulate my boys for a great season. We are very proud of you. The Seniors had an AMAZING four years....lot's of wins...couple loses...but not a single one to them Cowboys....WOOT WOOT. Already looking forward to next year...have a safe holiday and a happy New Year. Don't eat too much and come into offseason extremely overweight...like some guys in the past......Cough....Bush....LOL It was a pleasure watching yall play this year....CHEERS!!!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

cover2, that is a really bad reason to build another high school.  It should be about education and tax dollars being spent wisely.

Congrats to Eric Henri of UMHB and Mychal Carrillo of HSU for being named AFCA All-American's.

Do they classify high schools by total enrollment or by male and female?
In Pa. it's done by male enrollment for football.. There are 4 classification 1A to 4A. All other sports have only 2 classification 2A and 3A
Football !!! The ultimate team sport. Anyone who plays DIII football is a winner...

crufootball

It goes by total enrollment of students with 1A being the smallest and 5A being the biggest schools.

And 1A is subdivided into 2 Divisions of 6-man football and 11 man football.  6-man is a whole different beast  but fun to watch.  If you follow this link, you can see the enrollment figures for each school at each level.

Bill,

I fully agree but from an athletics standpoint that is the best way for the kids at Belton to be able to compete.  It won't happen...as an earlier post alluded to this town is to "Big Red" crazy.

It was great to read the article.  It really sounds like Coach Fred has alot of fire in his bones right now.  I have always respected him as a coach, and person, but the article motivated me with his passion and commits about physicality of play and remaining fresh.  I along with many am glad that he is leading the Cru program in the years ahead.  What a great coach.

After reading the article I must admit, I am already for some football of the 2009 variety. ;D  Great year Cru, I have already started the countdown to next year. ;)
