The cowboys giving advice on kickers? Didn't y'all blame your kicker for the loss during the regular season. The cowboys are going to get drummed next year in Abilene ( a place UMHB hasn't lost at since 2001). Quote me on it this October.

And Toby, BTW Freddie was around 260 his senior year at UMHB, he was at his best during his sophomore year around 230.

Freddie @ 260 was after the knee injury right?
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I predict UMHB beating HSU at Shelton in the regular season and then again in Belton in the postseason.....UMHB wins the conference and HSU comes in second again....other than that...it's anyone's guess.

that was quite a suprise pick Yessir never would have expected that from you. My pic is that HSU Beats UMHB next year. They play close at home but they win the Texas Sub bracket. That way when UMHB is at home you can still say they won a conference Championship. Then everyone is happy. You UMHB fans sure are cocky for a team that won a conference title by a total of 2 points and extended a playoff run by a total of 3. Wish you had tried the onsides kick at either HSU game could have made for a more interesting season. Oh well here's to the offseason and practicing onsides kicks. practice makes perfert.

How on earth are UMHB fans being cocky? The Cru have gone to the National Semi-Finals in back to back years and have won 29 straight ASC games. I realize that the ASC is a very good conference and HSU (or any other team) might very well beat us next year but come on we at least have earned the right to say we think we should we win the conference next year.

And what exactly are you talking about with the onside kick cowboyfan?

I won't repeat here, but offer instead this link to a story I just posted in the SCAC topic about a recent football game in the Fort Worth area:

Glad to hear it wesleydad.  As a army brat I know how the family feels when the soldier is away and the relief and joy of his/her return.  Enjoy your blessed Christmas with your son.  Merry Christmas to you and your family.

One last thought about Christmas...

Forty years ago, December 24th, 1968, some of us were following the news coverage of the flight of Apollo 8 as man orbited the moon for the first time.  During that space flight we saw the magnificent sight of "Earth-rise" for the first time.

I remember it so clearly as the three astronauts read a message to the world.

I have found a youtube audio of that message. (I don't think that we were getting a live simultaneous in-capsule video transmission).

Enjoy it again, for you old-timers, and marvel at its simplicity.

Merry Christmas to all!

Ralph, that's very interesting. I personally would like to see someone do some studies over the next decade and see how adding one school near the upper tier affects all the schools on their level and below them in the state of Texas, especially in this region.

Seeing as this is a D-3 Board, who do you think this hurts the most at our level ? TLU ? Trinity? UMHB?

Hello Crukid!

I don't think that it hurts anyone in D3.   ;)

I think that there is so much talent at our level that has given up football after high school that we could field another 6-8 D3 teams.

All of you current and recent D3 players, think about all of the players with whom and against whom you played, who quit football after high school.

What I want to see in Texas is an attitude change that values the D3 experience even more than what it does now.  I think that it can happen, especially as we get the coaches into the high schools who have played D3 ball.  We have almost doubled the number of D3 schools in the "state" in the last decade.

Think of it... The 2003 "ASC" graduates will have coached the 2011 recruits from junior high on up.  If we can get the change of attitude in the coaches who advise the players who are now in junior high, that D3 ball is valuable in the players becoming men, then those players will view D3 differently.  Those "ASC" grads can also advise the parents that the D3 experience is valid.

D3 intercollegiate sports provides focus and discipline to student-athletes.  You current and recent players know that and remember that.  Carrying that message into the junior highs and high schools will keep those good D3 athletes playing.

That is a paradigm shift, and I think that it is the key to success for the ASC.   :)

In addition, the great majority of kids UTSA will sign would not qualify academically for any of the D3 schools in Texas (until recently, UTSA had an open admissions policy and even today accepts 95% of applicants).
