I agree Bill. Over the past few years UMHB has handled replacing lineman with general ease. However, returning 7 offensive lineman from the two-deep will help.

I cant wait for kickoff....  :P

San Antonio Express-News:  Pete Fredenburg has interviewed for the UT San Antonio head coaching position.  He's one of seven being considered; others include Larry Coker (former Miami [FL] coach), Bill Bradley, Duke defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre.

The United States Geological Survey has reported an area of minor seismic activity located around latitude +31.0705, longitude -097.4659 at 1300 GMT/UTC or 7:00 AM Belton, Texas time.

The preliminary review by the seismologist has assigned a value of less than 1.0 on the Richter Scale.  He actually thinks the activity to be related to a sudden occurrence of jaws dropping and people fainting upon the announcement that the local college football coach has interviewed for another job.

So if Pete does head south who would be the heir to the throne. I know the coaching staff has been together for years.  ???

Good luck to him tho it would be a great chance for him to start two incredible programs. Until that is decided i am sure he will be focused on beating the whitewater and mount unions of the world.  :-*

following up on my cell phone post, it's not that I don't think he'd be a great candidate - I think it's just that UTSA wants a "name" that will resonate nationally and for all the wonderful things Coach Fred has done, he's not known by the media or in D1 circles.

After every season since I started following UMHB football I have been worrying that a school would get Coach Pete to leave. However in this case I can't see him really wanting to leave for another start up that will be even harder than his first and the competition is very good.

I can't believe how far Larry Coker has fallen, just a few years ago he was 24-0 and on the verge of winning his second straight national championship only to be upset in double overtime.

This might be old news for the HSU and McM crew, but I saw that the Abilene Christian football and track and field teams were being punished for some recruiting violations. I read this article and it doesn't sound too bad for the football team but this has to help the D3 program I would assume.

ACU's Track (athletic) scholarship athletes are a different bunch from those on the McMurry and HSU track teams.  (Certainly a D2 athletic scholarship recipient could move up to the D3 schools as in football, etc.)

Thanks for the link. +1!

Coach Fred would be a good, solid choice for UTSA.  He does have extensive D1 experience and he has started a program from scratch.  I hear a lot about Bill Bradley.  He has some big time backers promoting him.  He would be a solid choice, also.  Ron, Coach Fred is well known in coaching circles and has been for a long time.

I stand corrected and should have remembered that.  My apologies to all.

[Fredenburg] had a thirteen-year tenure at Baylor University as Defensive Coordinator and assistant head coach.  After the job at Baylor, he then moved to Louisiana State University.  After one year at LSU, he was given the opportunity to be the Defensive Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University.  He remained there for three years.

Coach Fredenburg's Honors:

Southwest Conference Defensive Coach of the Year - 1990

Named one of the top recruiters for the Southwest Conference

Southwest Texas State three-year letterman in football

[d3 honors follow]

welcome aboard nice to have another HSU alum around. Interesting discussion about Coach Fred. I was wondering Ron if he really had a shot at it? Would be a great opportunity for him though.

Can anyone else deduce to whom these clues lead?
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!
