Wow I never realized how far apart some of the SCAC schools are from each other. I can't imagine all of the cost of travel they have. Wonder if we could talk Trinity into joining the ASC and Austin College to rejoin.

With a billion dollar endowment (before the crash) travel costs are not going to lead Trinity to the ASC.  They are very happy where they are.

I suspect Trinity -- and remember that I'm a Trinity alum from back in the Dark Ages -- wants no part of the ASC in the regular season, whatever the financial situation (except for nearby TLU, a mostly assured win). Academically speaking, Hardin Simmons, UMHB, McMurry, Howard Payne, ETBU et al. don't measure up to Trinity's self-proclaimed, and perhaps actual, high standards.

(This is not sour grapes; rather, it's my [fallible] read of what is the case at San Antonio's
"Skyline Campus.")

LOL - that all bundles into the "they are happy where they are," WT.   Remember that before joining the SCAC, TU was part of the TIAA and was not terribly competitive.

I remember a 6-6 tie against then #2 Tarleton State (in 1979 or 1980?) as the athletic highlight during my time there.

Since Austin College does seem to fit the mold of the SCAC more, why did they join the ASC in the first place? There might be an easy answer to this question but they were leaving as I started following the Cru so my history is a little weak.

Ralph Turner

Austin College was a founding member of the TIAA (the NAIA predecessor  from 1976).

The previous president wanted to improve the prestige and reputation of the school and saw Trinity and Southwestern as peer institutions as opposed to us in the ASC.

AC really pushed its endowment, added a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and made some improvements to the programs to join the SCAC.

So does anyone know if Sull Ross is looking for a 10th game? Right now according to their website they only have 9.

From footballscoop.com

McMurry: Our sources tell us McMurry is also interested in Dean Campbell, who currently serves as the high school relations director at Arkansas.  Last week, we reported the McMurry interviewed Hal Mumme.  We hear a decision could be made by early next week.

Bringing in big names, I guess they see that just an average coach wont win in this conference.  8)

Hal Mumme is the new head coach @ McM.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Seems like a great hire for McM, congratulations to Ralph and all the McM faithful.
