UMHB announced recently the hiring of a new play-by-play man alum Scott Garner for football and basketball. Mr. Garner is also currently the radio man for the Frisco Roughrider (Texas Rangers Double A team).

From the press release it sounds like he has an impressive list of accomplishments and hopefully this will mean an overall improvement in the level of coverage of games.

fatboy

So lets hear it how do you think the ASC turns out this year records and playoff's

Cru Info

I guess we all know what d3football.com thinks of the ASC with only 3 preseason selections. Wow what a snub job!!!  I'm positive I'm leaving a few extremely talented players off the list. It shocks me more ASC players weren't selected.

Tucker/Parker as return specialist - snubbed
Feaster is the best QB in the country - snubbed
Beckworth was a 1st team selection as a sophomore – snubbed
Dustin Davis is the best center in the country – snubbed

But these guys can set the record straight with their play on the field!!!

D3football.com thinks the ASC is the No. 3 conference in Division III. And D3football.com has been pretty consistent with that.

Sometimes it just works out that way. Clearly we are allowed to have differing opinions as to who the best quarterback is in Division III, right? I mean, there are only TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHT of them for two spots.

Three players out of 50 is actually a little above average, considering there are 27 conferences.

Hey, and just as a reminder, we named an ASC guy to the team who ran for 109 yards last year. Did anyone else name Quincy Daniels a preseason All-American?

cru, I don't think that you have seen enough D3 football outside of the ASC.

You don't understand how much talent there is in D3.

They named only 50 players.  This list is not like so many other lists that have 19 guys as first teamers and another 21 guys on the second team, plus a thrid string and Honorable Mentions.

UMHB was predicted to win its 5th straight ASC title today in the ASC Preseason poll. The Cru picked up 21 of the possible 27 first place votes with HSU picking up 4 first place votes and ETBU picked up the remaining two.

Congrats to Hardin-Simmons University's Justin Feaster, East Texas Baptist University's Austin Sturrock and Louisiana College's Jordan Rideaux for winning the Preseason Players of the Year awards.

As long as the temps drop below 100, I'm all for it.  :)

These statistics were pulled from ncaa.org. I don't claim to be a statistician by an means, but I also am having a hard time understanding how the All American nominees were derived for 2009. Maybe someone could enlighten me a bit on what stats, info, variables, ect. are taken into consideration during this process.  Thank you.

1st Team Offense-QB Aaron Fanthorpe,Sr North Central Illinois
2nd Team Offense-QB Alex Tanney, J Monmouth

Passing           Passing Yds/Game                   Ttl Offense
7th   Tanney              9th  Tanney                       15th Feaster
26th Feaster              21st Feaster                      16th Tanney
?       Fanthorpe         53rd Fanthorpe                  37th Fanthorpe

Ttl pass yds               Pass Eff                      Pts Responsible for
  7th Tanney              4th Feaster                       2nd Tanney
16th Feaster              6th Fanthorpe                  5th  Feaster
49th Fanthorpe          8th Tanney                      13th Fanthorpe

The numbers are the numbers. Does this make sense? I don't think so. Seems pretty subjective.

A little more homework in the south might make a HUGE difference.

I am not sure what goes on in the process but one reason the two QB's got the nod over Feaster is playoff results.

Both of those QB's advanced to the second round, while Feaster and HSU were knocked out in the first round by UMHB.

Don't get me wrong, I think Feaster is a great QB and October 3rd could be a scary day because of him, but post season success is better than regular season success.

I actually saw him play in person each of the last two seasons. Very impressed. If we had more than two quarterbacks on the preseason team, he'd be on it.

Whittier will be playing Sul Ross in El Paso at 9 am.  That should help solve the heat problem.

@ 9am in September in El Paso it might be comfortable. by 11 am it will probably be much less so.  It will be a great time for a quick game.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
