Wow, every person has picked MC over HSU in pickems. They are either going to make us all look foolish for doubting them or be 1-3 which is crazy to think about.

Who really thought at the beginning of the season that this might be HSUs biggest game.
I don't think any of the UMHB players are looking at it that way. I know that next week they will prepare as if HSU is undefeated and figure Feaster will be playing. Even though I picked MC I still thing HSU is a long way from being dead and buried in the ASC race.

Bill McCabe

If HSU loses this week they have no chance in the ASC race.  Hopefully, nobody from either HSU or UMHB is looking ahead to next week.  It is a huge rivalry game, but an HSU loss this weekend takes some of the luster off of the game.

Heard @ lunch that feaster probably won't play this week.  I also heard that things aren't necessarily as bad as they seem for HSU.  There was guarded optimism @ the table.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Bet my entire fortune, all $1.99 worth, that he is locked and loaded for UMHB. Feaster is a tremendous competitor and I can't see him letting that one go by. Having been through shoulder injuries the past 2 years I know how long it takes, hopefully he recovers quickly.

Talk at the table was that he is seriously considering the medical.  Thought was also that the misfires last week were more about not practicing than his injury, so I'd say if he doesn't opt for the medical, he'll be prepared for UMHB, how effective he'll be I don't know, but I'd bet he'll be ready.

I am looking forward to traveling to Abilene next weekend to take in the UMHB/HSU and the McMurry/ETBU games. For those of you that don't know me (Jason Bowen), I write the Around the South column for the site. I am looking forward to meeting those of you that post and will be at either game. Should be a great day of football! Thanks to Ralph Turner and McMurry for setting it up.
If you're coming in for the early game you should join us for lunch @ Harolds.

On a more serious not as to Feaster we went through playing with a torn labrum for 9 games last year and it wasn't any fun. If his shoulder is seriously injured I would suggest getting it taken care of sooner than later. He is probably the best QB I have seen at this level and hope he makes the proper decision.

I think he will.  The coaches @ HSU are good people and I think they'll give him solid advice.  From what I gathered, and the guy I was talking to hangs with a lot of the HSU football players, the medical is a very serious consideration.  He said that they were going to look at how this week came out before making the decision.  When I asked if that meant he was playing and would playing prevent the medical, he said Feaster wasn't playing this week.  If that's right, and this is just hear say/rumor of course, my guess is if they lose to MC and there's no shot at conference or the playoffs, he'll do what needs to be done and take the medical, but if HSU wins (and I would not mind missing the pick'em on this one) then he'll lean more towards coming back and working for the conference championship/playoffs.  Just my .02.  Which ever is the case I hope he makes the best decision for his health.

Toby,

It is my understanding that a medical can only be taken if the injury prevents him from playing the remainder of the season.  Basically it cannot be by choice, but only by necessity.  This is not to say that he won't/can't get it but that it will be determined by the medical staff and based off whether he is cleared to play.

Toby Taff

Thanks for clearing that up RyeMc3.  I wonder if I just misunderstood and the plan is to evaluate again after the MC game.  Like I said  hearsay around the lunch table.

How far into the season can you play and still receive a medical redshirt?

You can't play in any game in the second half of the season and you can't play in more than three games.
