Wow, every person has picked MC over HSU in pickems. They are either going to make us all look foolish for doubting them or be 1-3 which is crazy to think about.

Who really thought at the beginning of the season that this might be HSUs biggest game.
I don't think any of the UMHB players are looking at it that way. I know that next week they will prepare as if HSU is undefeated and figure Feaster will be playing. Even though I picked MC I still thing HSU is a long way from being dead and buried in the ASC race.

Crubdad,

I prefer the term "injured and a longshot" "buried and dead" seems a little too perminant. And we all know that teams like HSU never die they just reload. I'd personally like to see Feaster back and healthy. I like our chances against UMHB. Last week was a big blow but i think some of that is to be expected after a big change in personnel. I'd also like to see HSU be a bit more strategic in the scheduling of teams and the planning of an off week. A week mid season with no Football allows you to get some of your not so healthy players back in action. Any thoughts on that? Does the schedule dictate the bi or off week? Does a team have any control over when that is scheduled into there season? I'll be listening in to the game this weekend hoping for a win.
I think there a few factors.  The conference schedule dictates the potential off dates and then who and when you can schedule dictates which of the potential dates is the date.  As to the other thoughts, I still believe that with the UMHB - HSU, dominating team or no, injuries or no, choosing the winner is a crap shoot.  There is some real venom on both sides of this rivalry so the potential for a crazy result is always there.  We've seen blow outs and squeakers over the past few years, so all bets are off as far as I'm concerned.  You just show up to the game, cheer your fool head off, and let the players fight it out.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Not sure I mentioned "buried and dead" as I have the utmost respect for HSu and especially Feaster as I have seen him up close for 4 games now. I thought the 10/3 game from the start would be for the ASC championship and home-field in the TEXAS playoffs. No offense to MC and LC.  The UMHB/HSU game is to big a rivalry for one player missing to swing the outcome, reminder last year when Daniels was out for UMHB. I agree with you that a mid season bye week would help the teams get over nagging injuries. I would assume the teams could start a week early but since we have been at UMHB they always play 10 in a row. Assume it is personal preference as I think some of the other ASC teams have by weeks. Good luck and see you in Abilene.

Bye weeks are nice im sure...for rests sake...but I know when I played...as a team we felt like we growed each week...we got better at something...kinda of like building up after each game...I think if you throw a bye week in there it would get you more healthy...but at the same time could stop the build up process a lil bit. Kinda like a week of work when there is very little to do...you just don't get much accomplished...compared to when you have allot to do...you handle business then enjoy the spoils of your labor on saturday. Im sure its a 50/50 but id rather play 10/15 strait....

Not to dig or comment on a past HSU defeat...but I remember Coach Keeling commenting in 2004 that the first round Bye actually hurt HSU prepare for UMHB rather than help them...I remember that it rained like crazy the 2 weeks prior to the playoff game...(Muddy game in Trinity for UMHB)...we traveled to nearby HS's and practiced on turf...meanwhile I think HSU was having a hard time preparing for the game due to the rain and the lay off. Which we all know who won...so sometimes off weeks can hurt way more than they help.

So if things continue to go they way they are going, then how will the first round of the playoffs pan out?  Obviously, UMHB should have a home game for the first couple rounds.  With HSU probably missing the playoffs, who should we look to as being a first and second round apponent?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

With it appearing that Trinity is also not going to be in the playoffs, UMHB may, for once, actually play whatever team is seeded eighth in the first round.  What a concept.  If Trinity can win out (and based on the performance to date you would have to say that seems unlikely), they might get a C bid and travel to UMHB.

I remember it being said that Millsaps is just under 500 miles from UMHB.  If that is true according to the NCAA then they would be UMHB's first-round opponent should they get in the playoffs and Trinity not.

Did anyone else watch the Houston / Tech game? I enjoyed watching Coach Keenum's son lead his team to another great win over a Big 12 team.

In Abilene that's the second battle of big country QBs in 2 weeks.  Jim Ned over Abilene High.  Wylie over Abilene High, but it was a good game

Wow what a game between Tech and Houston...Im not a fan of either but it's good to see lil ole U of H playing good football. What a game...

Saw the Cru play tonight...a so so game...pretty sloppy in some phases...but good ole UMHB football in some others. Run it down their throat and make their QB run for his life...there is a ton of talent and speed on the UMHB team...looks like this year might be another good one.

I want to congratulate the Choctaws on a huge win for their program...definitely a win they can build on. Who woulda thought HSU would be headed into the UMHB game 1-3 with a strong possibility of being 1-4 after this upcoming weekend. I wish HSU the best of luck this weekend...keep your chin up guys...there is still a possibility for yall to make the playoffs im sure...where there is faith there is a possibility...we know yall can do it...you just gotta practice hard...focus...and believe in yourselves and the impossible can be possible...anything can happen on any given saturday and I know the Cowboys can make it happen.

Sorry...i just wanted to do my best in supporting the COWBOY FAITHFULS...you can do this....But for real....Good luck to yall guys...

McMurry played pretty well tonight...I was really suprised...something I noticed that i have never noticed in D3 was the refs protecting the QB's like they do in the NFL...tonight a UMHB guy was flagged for having Helmet to helmet contact with the QB...this saddens me. I already think that the refs are ruining the NFL and D1 football with protecting the QB's...now it has leaked into D3. Hitting the QB is a part of football...I remember some devistating hits that Cody Fred took my freshman and sophmore year...he just took the hits and kept on playing football. Thats what its all about...if a team doesn't want their QB on his back...then they should protect him better...the refs shouldn't be able to take that fear away...they shouldn't be able to protect him like that. I also heard a "Illegal Touch" several times tonight whenever UMHB would kill the ball on a punt...first i've ever heard of that also. There were a ton of flags tonight...many I thought were uncalled for. Either way it was a dominate UMHB ball game so im happy but there's always room for improvement. Keep pushing CRU...each week is a building block...make sure you step all over the next one.  ;) ;D

Has anyone ever seen a players helmet get turned around like the picture on the front page?  That is a first for me.

No.  No schadenfreude here...

Coach Keeling's wife was treated for cancer over the summer.

With what former McMurry coach Steve Keenum went thru when his defensive coordinator was dying with colon cancer back in the early part of this decade, I am too cognizant of what distractions may be impairing the HSU family.

Feaster is out, it appears.  HSU has three consecutive losses for the first time in the 20 years of the Keeling era.

The ASC is just too jumbled from #2 downward.
