Does anybody know anythign about the D3 Football Senior Classic?

http://www.d3seniorclassic.com/

I stumbled across it and had not heard about it? I assume its like the Atzec Bowl but in America but not sure.

I haven't heard anything either, but from browsing the web site it looks like another "if you want to pay your own way we'll be happy to call you an all-star" game.  They're sending letters out to 400 kids (based on what criteria, it's unclear) trying to get 90 to sign up.

Players are required to pay their own way there (including travel and hotel), send a $325 "player participation fee", and are responsible for getting at least another $250 in "sponsorship" for a profile page in the program.
The problem I see for this type game is the date. Those players on teams that make the semi's and finals wouldn't be able to participate. It doesn't seem to be a true all-star game if the players from the final 4 or 8 teams are not there. One would assume the final 4 or 8 teams would have a few "all-star" players on the rosters. Also, I can see the cost eliminating players as well.

I was wondering why D3football.com hasn't really mentioned this and now I know why...another "Pay-Per-Play" all-star game.  As someone who had a REALLY bad experience at one of these types of games just be very careful before committing your or your schools dollars to a game like that.

My comments and rankings of the ASC this year so far:
1) MHB - Dominating 3 wins, class of the ASC it appears
2) MC - Beat HSU, Milsaps(? best in SCAC)
3) LC - Beat HSU handily, though they should have taken care of Huntindon
4) HSU - 1 & 3, never thought I would write that down, lost their outstanding QB but the HSU I used to know would have had the depth to still win except against MHB, and I know they lost some defense but again should have the depth to overcome MC and LC
5) ETBU, solid wins against SRSU/TLU
6-9) A pickem, it looks like they all might have a chance to win 2 games against each other and possibly surprise a HSU or ETBU if they have an off day.

I think since it's in Salem our M.O. this year is going to be we'll get someone to show up and tell us how good it is, then if there's a 2010 game we'll decide what to do with it then.

I think you have brighter days ahead for McMurry. Once Mumme gets his system installed that offense will be a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks,

The secret to McMurry's success will be if Joe Lee Dunn can get enough defensive players to come out there.

McMurry will always have a hard time controlling the ball more than 27 minutes per game, especially if the talented players who want to play in the Air Raid style come for the offense.

Quick TD drives means that the Defense is back on the field.  That means lots of playing time to give in the game.

Bill McCabe

Ralph, I think you are right on the money.  Coach Mumme will be able to score points.  It will take defense to get them to the top.  Is that the Joe Lee Dunn from Mississippi State?

crufootball

I totally agree, by the looks of how far McM has come already they are going to be right in the thick of things very soon. The offense already looks to be getting a hold on the system and will only improve with more directed recruitment next off season. The defense also looked much improved and only gave up three scores to a UMHB offense which is currently ranked 7th in the nation and yes Bill that is the Joe Lee Dunn from Mississippi State.

I think the key will be getting a lot of conditioning athletes on both sides of the ball. Even though their offense is built to go fast, in certain circumstance, they will be asked to get right back out there and that is a lot of runnign for them to do and of course with that offense their defense is going to be asked to do a lot.

(As crufootball said,) yes.

The intuitive player will realize the defense is going to get the "reps" with the Air Raid.  You won't be completely recovered after a 2-minute offensive series, and so there is a good chance that the 2-deep will get lots of PT as the defense can run in plenty of quality fresh players.  If the Air Raid pushes teams into high scoring games, then there is going to be lots of passing.  If you are dog-tired at the end of the game, why do you care if you played 25 plays or 50 plays?  You left it all on the field anyway.

The ASC as a whole just seemed to have taken it up a notch over the off-season.

Well ... that's a nice closing thought, Ralph, but I'm not seeing that reflected in the polls, and I doubt the HSU folks are feeling that way right now.

There's NO DOUBT that McMurry will make some strides under that leadership; you guys have slam dunked on both sides of the ball.  Like Millsaps, you're never sure how long they'll stay, but you have a good chance to build a solid program while these former D1 guys are around.

One word about MS College - they've played solid games against Millsaps and HSU, though I think neither of those two teams is as strong this year as last.  I keep waiting on the Cowboy fans to show up with some comments about the Saturday game which I watched on-line.  (BTW, the 'Choctaw Vision' was GREAT!)  The last few drives were pretty intense!

My thoughts were geared towards the middle of the pack of the ASC.  #30 thru #120

Pre-Feaster injury, I thought that HSU was solid.

I am trying to figure out how Centre is only a home TD better than an AC team that picked off a late 4th Quarter INT in the end zone to beat McMurry, and yet Centre is turning heads.

It does not surprise me that Huntingdon caught LaCollege in the post-HSU delirium.  What a comedown.  LaCollege could have had a shot at a Pool C bid with a win over Huntingdon.  Now they must run the table.

Is Joe Lee Dunn wearing socks these days?  When he coached at Mississippi State he never had on socks.  He is an excellent defensive coach.

Agreed about HSU.

There are a number of things that puzzle me as wwell.  Since we're on the ASC board, how does MS College squeak it out in 2OT against Millsaps then run up the score at McM who barely lost to Austin who EASILY could have beaten Millsaps?    Just how good is this MS College team? Also interesting that Depauw outplayed Centre statistically in many ways ... just not the score where it counts of course.  Next two weeks will tell the tale with Millsaps - Depauw then Huntingdon.  Trinity's game with Birmingham Southern will be either their resurgence or their downfall; BSC is a team that could surprise some people.

DEFINITELY some shuffling taking place in these two leagues.

yessir

Easy on HSU guys...their people too...they still have a chance. I believe in the Cowboys...GO CRU!!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

Ralph, I didn't know where to post this but wanted to get your opinion.  What do you think about a possible merger between the NCAA and NAIA?
