The "whats left" comments at HSU are really not needed. You can nail it down to one. Because I truely believe if Justin Feaster was not hurt and playing there would be no issues. His injury makes the others bigger. His decision to not rehab and play is a totally different issue. I have never seen HSU in the SAME EXACT formation for that many plays in a row ever. I walked out on the field after the game and the rumblings I heard from players and fans suggest I wasnt alone in what I saw. I think we need a booth review of the booth.

Feaster's decision on whether to rehab and play is his alone.  I see no reason for him to risk further injury by coming back this year.  A medical redshirt and coming back 100% next year would seem to make sense.

Absolutely!

Feaster's shoulder has to work for the rest of his life, so he can do natural things like pick up a newborn baby or play catch with his kids 10-15 years down the road.

Good word,  Bill & Ralph - kudos and karma to both of you.

Hats off to HSU... sounded like the Cowboys played UMHB tough. The score was much closer than I expected.

In LC's loss to MC, the Wildcats could not stop the run. It could be a long day for the Orange and Blue against UMHB on Saturday. The Wildcats have some offensive fire power, but it the CRU controls the ball and time of possession, LC will have a tough time.

It was definitely a very different HSU, but Coach Keeling even said in one of the ARN articles that they tried what they were equipped to do.  They played ball control, which was weird to watch but effective, and shortened the game.  Who knows what would have happened if Feaster and Robbins would have been in there.  it would have been a different game all the way around.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Noack was fine. I think UMHB will go with Bailey as the starter and if not he'll get most of the snaps at crunch time. The guy is too talented to keep off the field. UMHB was great on third down today 11 of 15. Those weren't just their normal third and shorts either. Bailey does a great job picking up third and long with either his feet or keeping the play alive until he finds someone.

Great win for McMurry. It was heartwarming to see them break the streak.
Great meeting everyone today. Thanks to everyone in Texas fo making it a great trip.

Took the words right out of my month, judging off of the quotes from the passed and the HSU game it seems they are ready to hand the starting job to Bailey. It stinks for Noack but Bailey seems perfect for the UMHB offense and if he can become the starter and play in the system for four years he is going to do some amazing things.

+1.  When you have injuries to key players you have to work with what you have left.  Byrd doesn't have much experience so Coach K did what he could to keep him from having to drop back every down and face the ferocious Cru pass rush.   You just can't go in with the same game plan when you're missing your offensive studs.

However HSU has never received great coverage from the Abilene Distorter News (possibly because ACU grads seem to make up a portion of its staff.)

Interesting that you think so.  HSU got no less than four articles about the game, two before the game and two afterwards:

Did any other local college football game get that kind of reporting attention?

I am a little concerned about UMHB's lack of dominance the last two weeks.  I give props to HSU's D and McM's D, but really, there were many times we shot ourselves in the foot.

1) Bailey comes in and throws an INT for his first play....I like the idea of going long, I think we need to do more of it.  But, I would have liked to see more patterns across the middle or outs to get him started.  His first trip to HSU and he goes deep?  Even Tony Romo wasn't given that much room Sunday and right now I think Bailey could go in and do as good a job as he did Sunday.

2) Where is Q?  The guy goes for long periods of time without a touch.  I know they want to keep him healthy, but you can't blame the guy for sitting out most of last year, come in this year and see little carries, and then fumble on a hard hit. He needs at least 5 carries a quarter.

3) Penalties-We need to get these under control or else it is really going to hurt later on.  LC is playing well, we need to be ready and be on the "ball" when it comes to these penalties.

One thing I will say, the D is huge right now.  I've never seen our secondary play like this.  They seem focused and ready to lay the helmet on someone.  Up with the Purple!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I think we are falling victim to our own success. If we don't blow every team out there seems to be an air of "lack of dominance". I will take 11 more close/ugly wins. In a previous post I mentioned that the penalties were a concern and they still are. I thought the ref missed the roughing the punter penalty as it appeared we tipped the ball since it went straight sideways. Other than that this was a hard fought game as I anticipated between two rivals. We walked away with a W and somehat injury free. #1 D has only given up 13 points in 4 games and the secondary has improved game to game.

Totally agree crudbdad, I will take 15 ugly wins and be as happy as can be but you are right that penalties are a concern this year. The team has seemed to have trouble in this area but this year based on the stats it is about 25 yards worse a game which could be huge in closer games.

Also crudbdad tell your son he is doing great this year (like he has every other year).

Thanks for the kind words. As a parent it is awesome the support given to all of the kids in this program from students, faculty and fans in general. Still amazed after each game how the President goes up to each kid and calls them by name, congratulating them on their play. Probably wouldn't see that at a D-1 program.

True, but how many D1 school presidents are an alumnus, a former athlete , and a former coach for the school they serve as president.  I'd say Randy O'Rear is vested.   ;D

Also, crudbdad, if you follow the link I posted to the reporter news article about not enough offense and look at the reporter news photos from the game you will find many good photos of your boy shutting Justice Baker down and knocking balls away.

He is definitely vested. Thanks for the link, the one on the TD was interesting. That was on the HSU side and I couldn't tell how bad he got beat. Game of inches; looks like he might have gotten away with interference. Sorry I didn't get to meet you at Harolds, my wife was with me and her time management was running behind.

Wow!  That is smoo-o-o-o-o-th!
