Game of inches; looks like he might have gotten away with interference. Sorry I didn't get to meet you at Harolds, my wife was with me and her time management was running behind.
Wow!  That is smoo-o-o-o-o-th!

I don't think I have ever heard that expressed more professionally in my entire life!

+1! to a real pro!   ;)   :D   ;D
I wonder if his wife read this board.  ;)
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Totally agree crudbdad, I will take 15 ugly wins and be as happy as can be but you are right that penalties are a concern this year. The team has seemed to have trouble in this area but this year based on the stats it is about 25 yards worse a game which could be huge in closer games.

Also crudbdad tell your son he is doing great this year (like he has every other year).
Thanks for the kind words. As a parent it is awesome the support given to all of the kids in this program from students, faculty and fans in general. Still amazed after each game how the President goes up to each kid and calls them by name, congratulating them on their play. Probably wouldn't see that at a D-1 program.
True, but how many D1 school presidents are an alumnus, a former athlete , and a former coach for the school they serve as president.  I'd say Randy O'Rear is vested.   ;D

Also, crudbdad, if you follow the link I posted to the reporter news article about not enough offense and look at the reporter news photos from the game you will find many good photos of your boy shutting Justice Baker down and knocking balls away.
He is definitely vested. Thanks for the link, the one on the TD was interesting. That was on the HSU side and I couldn't tell how bad he got beat. Game of inches; looks like he might have gotten away with interference. Sorry I didn't get to meet you at Harolds, my wife was with me and her time management was running behind.
No problem, but you are now excluded from commenting on the first ASC "Which is better BBQ quiz?"  It's a 2 parter:  1)Which is better BBQ?  Schoepf's or Harold's & 2) Which is the better experience and why?

My answers:  Better BBQ = Harold's - Schoepf's can't touch the hot water cornbread or the cobbler or Harold's sauce.

Better experience = 99% of the time Shoepf's - The walk through the pit room is ecstasy for me.  The 1% Harold's is when Harold breaks out in song.  That is truly a special experience.  That man can sing.

2) Where is Q?  The guy goes for long periods of time without a touch.  I know they want to keep him healthy, but you can't blame the guy for sitting out most of last year, come in this year and see little carries, and then fumble on a hard hit. He needs at least 5 carries a quarter.

I beleive QD had 23 carries of the 60 or so plays the cru ran!

The cornbread at Harolds was nice, but the BBQ at Schoepfs is amazing.  The baby backs on the weekend are to die for, the chicken is always suculent, and the steaks are amazing! Oh, and they changed the entrance.  You no longer go through the smoke to get your order.  They cleaned it up a little and fancied up the back some.  I would have to try some of the other things at Harolds, but right now, Shoepfs is the place for me.  I would love to see a competition or something!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Sad to hear about the entrance.  That was my favorite part of the experience.  Not that I don't like the BBQ.  We had out wedding rehearsal dinner @ schoepf's, but when  I eat bbq I generally only eat one of 3 things.  Sausage, brisket, and ribs so the greater variety is generally not a concern.  Schoepf's does well with all 3 ( i really like their jalapeno sausage), but their sauce is like a lot of sauces, it doesn't stand out to me.  Harold's sauce calls my name.  The second thing I'd say is I think baby back ribs are over rated.  i like a big meaty rib, rubbed then glazed on the pit then sopped after plating.   So again, it becomes about the sauce.  I would like to see a contest as well, but I doubt that happens.  harold is about to retire.

In Trinity's bye week, I thought I'd jump to the ASC board and chime in, if I may:

Congratulations to the McMurry "Tribe" for a well-deserved win ... breaking three (bad)streaks at once in last Saturday's 45-21 win over ETBU.  For those unaware, I highly recommend this week's D3 Around the South column by Jason Bowen.

Link: http://www.d3football.com/columns/around-the-region/south/2009/McMurry+can+hold+its+head+high

Having seen McMurry in action first-hand in week one, several of us Trinity parents remarked, "Wow, that's not the same team we saw last year!"  And, indeed, it is not.  A tip of the hat to Hal Mumme and his assistants for reviving the spirit in the football program at McMurry University and for the support of the administration, athletic department, and alumni there.  And, a special shout out to the McMurry players who continue to reach for excellence in the classroom and on the field of play, despite a long recent struggle for respect.  In the heat of our supporting our own team (and the relief of Trinity's narrow victory this season), we sometimes forget that these young men are just as dedicated and hungry for a win as our sons.  Perhaps, in some ways, moreso.  I commend you all ... you make us all proud.

Well done, McMurry!  I predict the ETBU result will not be your last victory this season, but an indicator of things to come for your program.  The ASC better watch their backs ... there's a Tribe on the loose in Abilene!!

Trinity Tiger Football ... where champions compete on and off the field.

TLU plays Incarnate Word on the 17th.  I'm afraid that is not going to be pretty.  Why would they schedule that game?

@d3jason

Thanks for the props TigerDad. I had a great time in Abilene. Would love to make it to San Antonio someday, since I missed Wesley's trip there in 2000.

Harolds was great, kicked Georgia and south Carolina's butt in BBQ department. Sorry I missed Schoepfs, maybe next time. The steak at Lytle's Landing was excellent too!

I would have addressed the SCAC a little more this week since there's a lot going on there too, but I was running out of time.

A decent D3 team should normally give a first-year D2 team a good game.   Unfortunately for TLU, they have really struggled while UIW has come together faster than expected.  They got a W on the road when a third-string QB brought them back from 3 TDs down last week.

It's also a short drive and maybe UIW gave them a guarantee to show up.

Thanks for the shout out, Conrad! I appreciate it, that has to come with some Karma points right?

Anyways, Shoepfs does have the regular ribs during the week.  I tell ya though, there is a place in Morgan's Point, basically the Belton Lake area, where they have these Bubba Taters.  Man, they are huge and good.  They'll put your BBQ right there on the tater and it is great!

Is Pearidge BBQ still on 2307 and Pearidge road?  They had some great BBQ there too.  Of course if you don't mind the drive to Green's Sausage House in Zabcikville, Greens will do you right as well.
