You know Bret, Morty, Dex, Pat Meyer were all outstanding LBs. Bret and McCabe were our LBs when we played for the championship and Bret recovered the fumble at MUC that started the comeback.

Like I said I know there are alot who could be on the list. Freeman was already discussed on the earlier list.
Good luck today Cru....

Totally forgot about the Meyer brothers.  Makes me feel bad because I had Pat in class.  Just goes to show the power of consistently good defense.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

If UMHB and MC win out, MC gets the AQ but are they ASC champs by virtue of the head to head or are they co-champs with UMHB?

They are co-champs, but MC has the Pool A bid by virtue of head-to-head.

Congrats to HPU on their win over the Mississippi team.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

That's what I thought but The MC announcers kept saying MC would win the conference like it was not a co-championship

How does the MC loss affect UMHB chances for a Pool C? I wonder how national recognition factors in.....

HPU picked up a big win by playing mistake-free football for much of the day with no turnovers, and MC made it as easy as possible with seven turnovers.

You had the feeling it might be one of those days for MC. After MC took a 3-0 lead, Hubbard fumbles around the MC 30 yard line and MC runs it back inside HPU territory to the 20 with a chance to go up 10-0. One of the officials blew a whistle with the ball on the ground and the officials basically had to apologize, give the ball back to HPU and they went in for a 7-3 lead. Bad calls happen on both sides and it didn't decide the game for sure so that's not the point, just a sign of the kind of day it would be.

MC made it worse with turnovers. On MC's first 11 possessions they scored three touchdowns, kicked a field goal, were forced to punt once, threw five interceptions and fumbled on the 1-yard line. Then they fumbled at their own 11 on a punt return late in the 4th quarter when they had a chance to tie. In the middle of the game MC threw interceptions on four straight possessions. And not just on Shaffer, a couple bounced off players.

Just one of those days I guess. I thought HPU would give us some problems with Hubbard and their passing attack, but watching turnover after turnover was really hard to believe.

Edited: Just wanted to add this for HPU. Their offense and Hubbard are pretty good, no surprise there. The defense, however, was porous for three quarters with MC either scoring or turning it over. But in the 4th quarter the HPU defense had a couple of huge stops. Steven Knight had 216 yards rushing after 3 quarters but just 2 more in the 4th. The HPU defense flipped a switch in the 4th quarter and deserves some credit for a couple of big stops late to seal the game.

I apologize, Toby, for not making the point that it is a co-championship.  I do the play-by-play for MC, and I guess I just assumed that everyone knew the tie-breaker would be the head-to-head win.  Either way, I'm hoping that both teams can go to the playoffs at the end of the season and represent the ASC well.  That said, the Choctaws are going to have to play much better than they did Saturday to get past these next two weeks to clinch the title and a trip to the tournament.  Here's to a good final two weeks!!

Thanks for the clarification David.  I think MC is probably ok as long as they don't turn the ball over 6 or 7 times, and I'm always up for 2 ASC teams in the playoffs, even if it does mean a rematch.  I think a good question to ask though is how does this loss affect regional ranking and potential seeding.

BTW...I've watched several Choctaw games on line and love the job you do calling the games

Thanks David.

Question.

Why is the pressbox at Robinson-Hale on the east side?

The camera shots late in the day are tough!

It could be a very interesting game in Brownwood.  Congratulations to HPU on a big win.  Also, it should be fun to be in Abilene.  Looks like this might be McM best chance in a while.

Not sure who made that call, but it does make filming day games difficult. ETBU is the same way.

Thanks for the compliment.  It makes it fun when the team is winning.

As far as the sun goes, we have looked into a domed stadium, but no progress as of yet.  Maybe one day!  ;)
