The only thing that trumps UMHB calling for a deep pass on 3rd and 1 in the 4th quarter, by the freshman QB no less,  was how LSU handled the final minute of its game Saturday against Ole' Miss. Abysmal playing calling and clock management - or lack thereof - by Miles and company. Thankfully I am not an LSU fan - but I do dwell around many, many die-hards.

For UMHB fans going to Linfield, I almost forgot, if you have the time and stay over to Sunday, McMinnville has a great air museum. It features Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose. It is worth the time.

UMHBalum-n-CenLa,

Since you've been in Mac, Evergreen has built a Space Museum and Imax theater all on their property. So that is a real time killer now.  However, if that doesn't float your boat, you can go 25 minutes down the road to Spirit Mountain Casino.  It's really a fantastic facility and it's kind of sad to type this but Spirit Mountain is the #1 tourist location in Oregon (3 1/2 million visitors last year).  Damn the natural beauty of Oregon, let's go gamble!

Early weather report is calling for a dry weekend with high of 51.

Wildcat 11,

I've been back about three times since leaving in Jan. of '06. I think the additions to the air museum were well underway when I was last there in August of '08. You are correct about it being a time killer, but it is fascinating.

If you're going to drive to Spirit Mt., might as well keep going to Lincoln City and the breathtaking scenery of the Oregon coast. It is worth the drive. The coast is about an hour due west of Mac.

I am a book-aholic, so my favorite way to spend several hours was at Powell's City of Books in downtown Portland. It too is worth taking the time to experience. It is billed as the worlds largest used bookstore. I have yet to encounter anything that comes close. A full city block and 3 plus floors. If you can't find it at Powell's it doesn't exist.

FWIW, in a PM to klompen I mentioned that move by UMHB staff to platoon quarterbacks in the 2004 Stagg as being confusing. The starter was doing just fine.  I mention it because we know timing is so important and it WAS the championship game and, I believe, gave LINFIELD a tiny advantage.

Hey! Veau, it's DRY inside.

Quotemight as well keep going to Lincoln City
There's a casino there too!

On to the weekend...

Do not want to get CaptainCru in trouble with the bros but this WAS posted on the Daily Dose

QuoteWell, didn't get any video feed of the UMHB-Central game but is sounded like UMHB ran all over Central and it sounded like Central torched UMHB with the pass. Pass defense has always been their achilles so to speak.
I can sleep a tad better tonight knowing if the secondary is slightly vulnerable LINFIELD has a chance.

While respecting an opponent's speed, we do not feel that will be a 4th quarter problem because the 'CATS are fleet of foot themselves.

Cowboys? My question still stands. Who would you wager on if it were legal?  8)

Excellent call on Powell's.  I'm not a book junkie but Mrs 11 is but I found myself wondering around that place for hours just checking out all the different floors of material.  Incredible.

Preliminary forecast for Saturday in McMinnville from Weather Underground:
Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain. Highs around 50.

Only a slight chance of rain for November in Oregon is a good forecast. Let's hope it holds and the game will only be played in damp conditions. There is really no such thing as dry during the winter in the Pacific Northwest  :).

There are plenty of denominationally based universities in Texas.

The Methodists have McMurry Southwestern, SMU and Texas Wesleyan.

The Presbyterians have Austin College and Trinity.

The Southern Baptists have ETBU, HPU, UMHB, HSU and Baylor.

The difference between the Methodists, the Presbyterians and the Baptists is that the Methodists and the Presbyterians will say hello to you in a casino!   :)

As for a name such as "Caiyah" that is likely to be almost "google-unique" when she grows up.   :)

1st - I'd say "Texas Baptists have..." rather than "Southern Baptists have..."  there is a significant difference these days.

2nd -  You missed Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Dallas Baptist, and Houston Baptist on your list of Baptist schools (There's also San Marcos Baptist Academy - a 7th - 12th grade private school)

3rd -  I've always heard the difference as "Methodists greet  each other in the liquor store." ;D
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Toby, thanks for the correction:  "Texas Baptists" universities...and there is a difference, indeed!

Back to Linfield...as a COWBOY (like in HSU), I figure UMHB will win...if I were going to bet!

Go Cru!  (I can't believe I am saying that!  Ha!)
