Mississippi College with three All-Americans. TE Renard Ellis a First Team selection. OG Josh Lankford Second Team, and LB Quartez Ashmore Third Team.

All are seniors, so big shoes to fill for next year.

I'm rootin' for the Abilene Eagles.

Tell Herschel Sims he's welcome to come to LINFIELD to compete for a position.

HAppy Holidays to all!

Saw him on to my trip to Abilene in October. The Eagles were up 35-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Think Texas and Oklahoma nay get first dibs. Sorry Wildcats.
More likely Texas Tech.  AHS students seem to like Tech, and Texas has tapped Colt McCoy's younger brother who is playing in the state finals this weekend

AHS looking pretty good so far tonight against Katy.

Herschel just had a nice 60-yarder to seal it. You would probably like to see see Ronell at QB for the Cru Toby. Seems like he would fit their scheme well.
Yeah, but the problem is that good texas QBs end up all over the D1 map.  A current sampling:

Colt mcCoy -Jim Ned High (2A) Tuscola, TX -  UT
Taylor Potts - Abilene HS (5A) Abilene, Tx - Texas Tech
Case Keenum - Wylie HS (3A) Abilene, TX - University of Houston
Jevan Snead - Stephenville HS (4A) Stephenville, TX - Ole Miss
Greg McElroy - Southlake Carroll HS (5A) Southlake, TX - University of Alabama
Robert Griffin - Copperas Cove HS (5A) Copperas Cove, TX  - Baylor

Off this list, 6 of 6 live within an hour drive of a D3 school, 3 are from towns with a D2 school, and 2 are from a town with 2 D3s
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

And for those of you who do not know Taylor County geography, Jim Ned HS in Tuscola is an Abilene "suburb".

I understand that the "Indian adorned" McMurry football scoreboard still shines proudly over the high school field of the Jim Ned HS Indians.

Great game last night, congrats to UW-Whitewater. Time for the Cru and everyone else to start the off-season, only 264 days until kickoff (not that I am counting or anything)

Also a belated congrats to Jerrell Freeman for being named Roughriders' Rookie of the Year award. http://www.tdtnews.com/story/2009/12/20/62928

McM2013

Iam new to this board but just some info, iam a student here at McMurry and so i have a rather unique insight into the football program. Also i love the program here so i like follow it quite closely. As far as the improvement that everyone is talking about i have heard some interesting news about maybe a couple transfers coming in. The one i know is for sure is Casey Fenn. A center from Abilene Christian Universtiy. This is good news considering McM's Clements graduated this year. The last time i looked at the ACU roster, Fenn is listed at 6'1 270. He played high school at Denison which in his senior year lead the state in rushing and had a rather prolific offense. Also being from the north texas area Denison is a powerhouse football school and is an extremely good program so it looks like he is going to be a really good fit. Also Jared Wyatt another transfer from ACU he is a saftey but i havent heard if hes is for sure coming or not. It looks like if McM can fill the few holes they do have then we may have a good team this upcoming year.

Ala Cumba!!

My apologies for the post from this account earlier in the day. I left this on and my roommate here in my apartment posted that last entry. Yes I am Casey Fenn but i did not write that last entry. I don't usually post at all considering I believe my play should speak for me. I guess the word is out about my transfer now though haha.

Ralph Turner

Welcome Casey.

Glad to have you at McMurry.

In my yearly attempt to figure out how Mt. Union and now UW-W stay at the top every year, I am pushed to the thought of all the extra practice that everyone gets in their programs.

I know I don't need to do the math for everyone but the seniors at both of those schools could have played as much as 60 games in their careers. Now few players are good enough to make the varisity squad and get playing time their freshman year but at the worst they are getting to practice until mid December every year, whereas other teams are cleaning out the lockers in mid November.

My thought is does anyone think the powers that be would approve of all teams being allowed to practice until the last teams are done?

umhb2001

Perhaps this was already discussed, but I didn't see it, but how on Earth is it possible that only ONE Cru player made the first team All America? When your D is as solid as ours, how is it that Parker doesn't get a first team nod? How is it that no one from our O line made it? Crazy!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

When you consider that there were 16 teams that made the Second Round, and another 222 teams were sitting at home, then UMHB is getting a fair proportion of players on the team.  If that D shuts down Linfield, and UMHB makes the Quarterfinals, then more players may have been recognized.

The big thing about this All-American team is that the team has an All-Purpose player on it that is usually not voted.  Bryson Tucker's unique role was recognized.

I wonder if he is this years TLU Goat.

The reason Whitewater is so dominant is they have division I facilities and a student population of 10,000. They have nicer sports complexes than SHSU or SFA. Just my opinion.

D1 facilities...seriously??!! Not too many D1 schools that I know have 13,000 seat stadiums. Whitewater has had that population and that football stadium for 20-30 years now. however they've only been good for the last 5 years.

How about a little respect thrown the coaches way?

The D1 (AA) FCS Southland Conference is what Crualum was considering when he made the statement.

The conference in 2009 was an 8-team conference.  The 8 stadia had a combined capacity of just under 116,000, which is less that 14,500, in the football crazy states of Texas Louisiana and Arkansas.

The range in stadium capacity spanned 7,500 at Souteheastern LA to 17,410 at McNeese (LA) State.  Three of the 8 schools have smaller capacity stadia than Perkins.  The stadium at SF Austin seats 14,575; Sam Houston State's seats 14,000.

Let's list the items that make up the ingredients for a successful program.

Facilities
Affordable tuition/adequate financial aid
Quality curricula to attract student athletes
Fan/Alumni, Community and student body support
Support of the Administration
Quality Coaching.

Any others?

How much difference does having quality facilities impact that equation?

Pat Coleman

A big stadium hasn't done jack for UW-Platteville or Brockport State. It's success that breeds more success.

That's goes back to my original point Pat, is that success breed out of the extra practice that teams that go deep into the playoffs get?
