I can't wait for football to begin, but I knowI'm going to miss a few Mcmurry games, especially if I have to drive from Arlington. At my age 68, I'd have to leave two days before the game starts to get there on time. Any suggestions?

Btyndall you might consider the Greyhound. Its only a 5 hour trip by bus and you could get Ralph or Toby to pick you up since the bus station is so close to harolds.

I'd pick him up even if it wasn't close to Harold's.  however with the longer hours, Harold's is more convenient. ;D

Story about Harold: A few months back my family went to Harold's on a Thursday night.  My youngest is a very picky eater and when we left we told her they had chicken, because she will eat chicken.  Turns out Harold's only sells chicken on Friday, so the littlest Taff had a melt down and was told if she didn't want some of her moms turkey she could do without, or she could sit in the van.  While I was waiting for our order, Harold came out and asked if she was ok and then said he was going to give her some chicken (he already had the chickens on smoking for friday).  He came out and gave her half a chicken and said she could eat as much or as little as she wanted.  No charge to us.  Not only does Harold's have great BBQ.  Harold is a great guy.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Centenary Timeline starts September 1, 2010.

Full membership is possible on September 1, 2014.

Is there any talk of Centenary having a football team by then or at any point?

Anything's possible, but it's a school with <900 undergrads that already offers the NCAA-mandated (for D3) 16 sports.  Adding football would probably mean adding two more women's sports, asking a lot from a school that size.

EDIT: at which point the response is normally "maybe they want to grow the school."  That may be the case, but if we say a smallish football program w/70 kids and the 40 or so women in the two new sports that would have to be added,  that's 110 kids that have to have dorm + class space and faculty/staff support.  Don't forget to add costs for coaching staffs and facilities.   Centenary is proud of their 10:1 student/faculty ratio, so that's 11 new profs at say $85K/year (benefits included) on top of everything else.  Given the economy and the impact on the school's resources, this may not be the time to grow.

True Ron but also if they could add 100+ males with a football team and however many females that could be a nice boast in funds.

From Peterson's...

Quote887 undergraduate students, 56% women, 44% men, 5% transferred in, 10% African American, 3% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 3% Hispanic American, 0.1% Native American

Roughly 480 women and 400 men.

Add 100 men (80 football players plus the extra 20-30 that want a football school) and you are about 50-50 on the gender break.

Toby- I appreciate the offer but its not the game at Mcmurry I'm worried about because its only a 2 and a half hour drive from Arlington, its the other games in southwest texas I'll probable miss, which I don't want to. Tell me about Harolds. Sounds like a very interesting and great place to eat, which I love to do, although for my  age 68 and height 6'3 and weight 195, I can eat and not show too much of it.

Harold's is a BBQ joint on Walnut.  It don't look like much but the food is fantastic.  It opens @ 11am and closes @ 8pm.  during the school year the line forlunch is out the door and down the sidewalk most days.  Portion sizes are ample and pricing is about normal for BBQ.  They always have cobbler that is made in-house (its not store bought and heated), but the types vary depending on available fruit.  My favorite is the strawberry.  It's out of this world.

You can have the dirt strips easily but the maintenance of rolling all the dang armadillo holes can be a bit tiresome and downright dangerous if you go overnight.

QuoteTo see Quincy's name on the second team is awesome

Somehow I was pleasantly surprised too...BUT!....ya'll have that same top ten problem of your passing game to straighten out.

Good health to Justin F. for that last sweet ride. He got thrown but he got right back on.

I really believe that the passing game is going to be better this year. With returning WR Ellis and Johnson,  and with Bailey getting a year under his belt, I think things will be better...at least I hope. Last year was a wake up call to Coach Fred. He knows things need to go differently. I believe they will.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I hope UMHB decides to go back to the running game with play action passes.  I think they really hurt themselves with so much spread.  They never seemed to have an identity on offense last year.  They've got the running backs and good option QBs.

I know it was only one game but as soon as UMHB had to be a pass first team vs Linfield their offense was ugly.  Their QB's are just not pocket passers.  Hell of an offensive line and RBs though.

They have had a lot of success with a physical, pounding offense.  With their defense, I think this is a good style for them.
