2 things this morning: first, congrats to the UMHB sports information office for being selected Conference SID of the year in the ASC for 2009=2010.

And 2nd: two-a-days have arrived for Texas high school football.  The season is at hand!  Woo Hoo!
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

My apologies to Hank Hornsby, congrats to him as well.

Also cowboyfan I have a question, what is with all the BHMU stuff? At this point in the season I would think the only upset fans would be MC who don't seem to be getting any love after their season last year?

cowboyfan

True about MC where is the love. I'm just already tired of hearing the BHMU, "we are so good crap already." Ready for some football to start. Just poking fun at the SID of the year award. No bad intentions just poking fun.

What was mcm's problem last year, offense or defense. Are we getting back anyone or did we recruit anyone to fill these problems?

We played a bunch of sophomores and freshmen.

dumb question from a non-ASC follower:

What's with BHMU? is that suppose to be some sort of smack talk towards MHB?

If someone can be so kind and fill me in  :)

Hey Warhawk why try to trash me out. I have a grandson going to mc this year and I just wanted a little info on what the team was like last year.

I think that it is a Doppler kinda thing.

It is UMHB as you see it coming to you.

When it goes past you, it is BHMU.    ;)

Nice Ralph.  i like that, even if its not cowboyfan's intent.  02 Warhawk, its a rivalry thing.  cowboyfan is an HSU alumnus and the HSU faithful are not ok with not being on top of the conference.  add to that the propensity of some Cru fans to be obnoxious (a trait also held by some of the cowboy faithful) and there's no love lost.  Makes it fun to be an alumnus of both places though.

I'm pretty sure the dumb question comment was just a preface for the question he was asking, not aimed at your question about McM.  As for that question, i think McM has their best opportunity to do some damage in conference this year.  They have UMHB on 09/18, the Cru's 2nd game.  UMHB usually takes a few weeks to really get rolling, so getting hit with the Air raid week 2 could create some issues, and if they do find a way to upset the cru, the conference race could be a bit chaotic.

I think it is like those bumper stickers you see on Jeeps that say "If you can read this... roll me over" however it is upside down. Except with us it is  because a member of the Cru has run you over so it looks backsward haha  ;)

Seriously I have no clue and would love to know if there is some logic behind it.

Congrats to UMHB, HSU, and MC for starting the year in the only poll that really matters.

toby is right there is no love lost.. Hey i thought college football was suppose to be about rivalries. I wouldn't say that HSU is no longer on top. I think those are the statements that create the friction. I'd say ETBU is no longer on top. HSU is still a winning program and will for the forseable future continue to be one. ONCE AGAIN JUST POKING FUN. You guys need a season to start up quickly or to refill your blood pressure meds. Go Cowboys!

LA Major

What is the boards thoughts regarding MC this season? Key losses and key carry overs? Was last year a fluke or is there something building in Clinton?

DavidNichols

MC Football will have a completely different look after the pass happy seasons of the past five years with Adam Shaffer as the quarterback.  They Choctaws return their top three rushers from last season led by Steven Knight, who was a First Team selection and ran for 1,333 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Austin Divinity moved positions to tailback for the final three or four games and actually finished with 255 yards and two scores, including rushing for 65 yards and a score in the playoff loss to Wesley.  Gotta love Delaware!!  Divinity also led the team in kick returns with an average of 21.2 yards per kick return and a score.  Divinity was All-ASC Second Team as a returner.

The quarterbacking duties will most likely fall into the hands of junior Tommy Reyer, who was the Freshman of the Year two years ago when Shaffer was injured.  He ran for 128 yards and two scores last season.  Two years ago, Reyer rushed for 394 yards and two scores, while completing 52% of his passes for 1,116 yards and seven scores through the air.

MC returns their top two starting receivers from last year in Brian Richardson (32 catches, 504 yards, 3 TD) and Matt Burke (25 catches, 285 yards, 2 TD).  The loss of All-American tight end Renard Ellis will hurt having to replace 58 receptions, 748 yards, and 8 TD.

The defense should be strong up front with their top six lineman returning, spearheaded by Nolan Willisson and Brad Holt.  The two combined for 87 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.

The loss of Quartez Ahsmore will be tough to replace, as well.  Ashmore led the team wtih 87 tackles and was the ASC Defensive Player of the Year.

If the secondary can step up and prevent the big play deep, the defense could be solid.

It's difficult to follow such a special season up like the 2009 year, but MC has some big pieces returning and recruiting looks good.  It will be tough to replace the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year from a season ago, but MC has some talent ready for 2010.
