toby is right there is no love lost.. Hey i thought college football was suppose to be about rivalries. I wouldn't say that HSU is no longer on top. I think those are the statements that create the friction. I'd say ETBU is no longer on top. HSU is still a winning program and will for the forseable future continue to be one. ONCE AGAIN JUST POKING FUN. You guys need a season to start up quickly or to refill your blood pressure meds. Go Cowboys!
football would be no fun without rivalries.  i look forward to the banter on campus every fall during the run up to UMHB-HSU.  Even more so when there is a take 2 in the playoffs, but i must say after 6 years in Abilene being a cowboy has grown on me some.  My online poker handle these days is crucowboy, but please take note the Cru is always first  ;) ;D
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I love the UMHB-HSU rivalry and can't wait to see the game in September. I just wish the game would be put towards the end of the year so it could be an even bigger match up. This year at best it is going to be a battle of a 3-0 HSU and a 2-0 UMHB, however I am pumped it is going to be a night game this year.

TxFight

if im not mistaken the umhb-hsu game will be the last conference game 2 years from now when the schedule rotates again!

Nice Report David  +1. Very well done and thanks for the info. Could be an intersting year in the ASC. Cant get here soon enough in my opinion.

MC Football will have a completely different look after the pass happy seasons of the past five years with Adam Shaffer as the quarterback.  They Choctaws return their top three rushers from last season led by Steven Knight, who was a First Team selection and ran for 1,333 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Austin Divinity moved positions to tailback for the final three or four games and actually finished with 255 yards and two scores, including rushing for 65 yards and a score in the playoff loss to Wesley.  Gotta love Delaware!!  Divinity also led the team in kick returns with an average of 21.2 yards per kick return and a score.  Divinity was All-ASC Second Team as a returner.

The quarterbacking duties will most likely fall into the hands of junior Tommy Reyer, who was the Freshman of the Year two years ago when Shaffer was injured.  He ran for 128 yards and two scores last season.  Two years ago, Reyer rushed for 394 yards and two scores, while completing 52% of his passes for 1,116 yards and seven scores through the air.

MC returns their top two starting receivers from last year in Brian Richardson (32 catches, 504 yards, 3 TD) and Matt Burke (25 catches, 285 yards, 2 TD).  The loss of All-American tight end Renard Ellis will hurt having to replace 58 receptions, 748 yards, and 8 TD.

The defense should be strong up front with their top six lineman returning, spearheaded by Nolan Willisson and Brad Holt.  The two combined for 87 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.

The loss of Quartez Ahsmore will be tough to replace, as well.  Ashmore led the team wtih 87 tackles and was the ASC Defensive Player of the Year.

If the secondary can step up and prevent the big play deep, the defense could be solid.

It's difficult to follow such a special season up like the 2009 year, but MC has some big pieces returning and recruiting looks good.  It will be tough to replace the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year from a season ago, but MC has some talent ready for 2010.

I moved to Weatherford, TX from Georgia at the end of the season last year. My son played at LaGrange College. Now I'm looking forward to some Texas D-III football. I imagine I'll catch some of the games in Abilene and maybe make it down for a UHMB game as well.

You'll have the chance to see what should be three good to excellent teams - UMHB is always a national power, HSU can challenge when the stars align, and McMurry is on the upswing.  Enjoy, and welcome to Texas!

The ride to Abilene from Weatherford isn't bad, except for the eternal construction around I20 in Weatherford. ;D If you make it this way, let me know you're coming.  i'd love to introduce you to Harold's BBQ.  If you need some suggestions for games to see, I'd recommend Willamette @ HSU 9/11 6pm, UMHB@ McM 9/18 6pm, HSU @ UMHB 9/25 6pm, McM @ HSU 10/30 2pm.

Hey Toby, Louisiana College will be visiting McMurry for an afternoon game on November 6. I would recommend that game as well.  :)

Another good game should be on 10/9 with Mississippi College at UMHB.

It seems to me that this year has many interesting turns and challenges.  Several programs have made considerable improvements in the off-season, I cannot wait until the season starts.  The ASC is stronger I believe than in recent years which will help prepare our Conference champion, and possible pool bids for the play-off run.  I cannot wait! Go Cru, and Go ASC!

Loved going to Harold's last year for the UMHB game. Met some of you guys there and that was great! Even saw some of my distant cousins I didn't even think I'd get to see. Good BBQ!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Does anyone who purchased Kickoff last year remember the article that talked about the budgets of D3 football team? I was trying to locate the place  that had the data and can't find the article on D3?
