Well for not being an official football team, UNO was/is organized. I counted about 8 coaches and 6 trainers. There were about 70-80 players & they arrived on 2 charters. Quite a few fans made the trip up from New Orleans as well. UNO had some decent size, but they were no match for LC. That said, the scrmmage with UNO provided a break from the Cats pounding on each other. All in all, a good day.

Kelly, I realize you were there as an LC fan and paying attention to your own team, but did anyone from UNO stand out in the scrimmage?  Any observations about the Privateer team?  Did they throw the ball a lot or was the scrimmage more run oriented?

Asking because with club football you really never know what you are going to get.

Kelly Boggs

Welcome from me as well Slidell. My son is playing at LC and I endured the scrimmage - man it was hot - on Saturday. I was impressed with UNO's organization.

When I heard UNO was a club team I was not sure what to expect. When they rolled up in the charters and made their way onto the field I thought, "This is like no club team I'd ever seen." I was impressed with how the team conducted itself. I spoke with some UNO fans after the scrimmage. Good folks, very classy and committed to UNO having a respectable program.

I, for one, hope UNO does add D-3 football. There seems to be a good talent pool to draw from in the New Orleans area. Some good high school football is played down south. It would be great if, over time,  UNO vs LC could develop into a great rivalry.

Slidell,

I did not have a roster, so I can't say anything about a particular player but UNO was scrappy. The defense was more competitive than the offense. They ran well to the ball and gang tackled. They also had some pretty impressive size up front. The DB's also played decently.

The offense had a hard time. They really were unable to do much of anything. It was hard to evaluate the QB's because they had no time to throw. Quite a few sacks.

UNO played hard and never did back down. As I said previously, I was impressed.

I heard Saturday that MCM had a scrimmage with Cisco junior college and the offense did not fare to well. Defense looked okay but not great. Whats up!!!

Interesting story out of McMinnville today on YAHOO. Check out the link below.

Saw this story this morning. Man, that's nuts isn't it? Wonder what was going on there?

Welcome, Slidell!  You will find the ASC boards as friendly and supportive.

You gotta watch UMHB-HSU week, tho'.  That gets pretty wild.

Kelly, thanks for the reports on the scrimmage.

I've looked at the LC roster on the website and there are a good number of New Orleans area kids listed.  So I agree that the talent pool is pretty deep in New Orleans metro high schools.  I think that UNO, with the availability of TOPS and the affordable tuition, will do just fine and will create a lot of opportunities for good football players, who can't afford to go to an expensive school out of town, to continue playing the game.

We still have a long way to go, though.

But thanks again for the reports and the kind words.

Ralph - thanks for the welcome.

I'm another UNO fan checking in here at the D3 boards for the first time.

Many thanks for the recap on the LC/UNO scrimmage.  It's nice to get a pre-season report on our club team.

We open up our second full club season (we played two games in '08, eight games last year) in a few weeks and we're hoping to hear some news about the 2011 start-up of our official program around that time.

We like to think it is, and we hope we do it justice. There is a story in there about new programs coming on line, but as far as UNO-specific insight, we're a couple years from that. Kickoff would definitely give you a picture of what football in D3 can be like though, from the story about losing a teammate in the offseason to the one about the NWC and the different challenges teams in that conference face.

To me, some of the Q&A answers were as insightful as anything else, just coaches' thoughts on game day atmosphere and what might be changed. Die-hards, read all of those.

Sorry for the tangent  ;D

Just to point out something...I believe that i counted the McM 1st offense play only about 7 plays and I believe that they scored twice.  And as far as the other question goes McM does not have any more scrimmages correct me if im wrong Ralph but i believe the NCAA only allows one outside scrimmage per pre-season

Ok I am officially excited about the year now, first Kickoff came out and the Temple Daily Telegram also released their annual preview of the year.

My reason I am excited is that Coach Pete talked like we have gone to far away from our roots of running people over but we are going to go back in that direction.

Also mentioned that the QB job is Kyle Noacks to lose but that LiDararral will still be used.

I just registered/paid and look forward to checking it out.

I noticed that we're not (yet) an option for favorite DIII team that you request from us at registration, so I had to leave that blank. :)
