The Cru must be able to throw a pass or two down the field to keep the defense at bay.  If not they will load the box, and our running backs and qb will continue to run for their lives  I can't wait to see what kind of package our coaching staff will put together for the HSU game this week.  I tip my hat to McM.  Great game!  This week should be a barn burner in Belton!  No pun intended.  :D

Congrats to McM on a well fought game and congrats to Bhmu on pulling this one out with some big plays! As long as HSU doesn't give up big plays next week I predict a lot of unhappy cru fans this time next week! Wonder if Coach K and Coach Mumme have scheduled coffee for this week. Might be a great idea!

Boo cru. Here come the boys! Go cowcoys

Should be a great game, both teams are formitable foes.  I have nothing but the utmost respect for HSU, but I do root for the Cru!

I wouldn't read too much into the defense holding Bailey and Daniels, since Bailey was no threat to pass (he threw some ugly passes last night) they pretty well stacked the line and swarmed to the ball.  The UMHB penalties helped too.

Where McM is going to to have problems with HSU is on the Oline.  The Oline did a good job protecting Jake, but for the most part UMHB was rushing 4 and trying to figure out some way of stopping the pass.  Even rushing 4 Jake was running for his life part of the time.  HSUs DBs will be better than UMHBs dbs played tonight and so HSU will have a little more beef to bring.

The other thing that could derail McM is an injury to Mullin.  His speed, ability to see the field and escape pressure, much like Justin Feaster, Make that offense work.
Thanks, Toby.

Then the 3-3-5 defense must have adjusted nicely to defend the run.

And, the huge change between rushing 4 and pass defending with 7 is that rushing 5 puts huge pressure on the secondary to defend the Air Raid Offense with 6 players.

true but when UMHB brought more than 5, Mullin was on the run not firing bullets down field.  I think I'd rather see Mullin picking up yards with his feet than airing it out and letting the sprinters go get it.  Reading the reporternews this morning, one of the receivers was quoted as saying that their game plan wasn't working so the receivers started telling the coaches what they thought would open it up.  Smart receivers.

Speaking of newspapers, in the Temple paper Mumme was quoted as saying "We're faster and we outhit them." but in the Abilene paper it said "They're (UMHB) faster and we (McM) outhit them in a lot of respects". Anybody have a feeling on which quote is right as to who the faster team was?

I know this is trivial but it's weird that both newspaper would use the quote but one of them apparently got it wrong.

I'd like to see the whole context because mcm's skill positions were faster than the cru secondary but on the whole umhb is probably faster.  as for the hitting, mcm was hittng harder than i've ever seen, but I promise you mcm's #4 knows he was hit.

Both Sam Waller (ARN) and Eric Drennan (TDT) were present at this press conference after the game, these were the only quotes Mumme gave ... I just read this post, so I haven't viewed to see who is correct, but I actually don't remember the quote ...

thanks for the link. mcm_sid.  Mumme said we're faster and hit harder in a lot of respects...the comment is around the 2:49 point on the clip.  I don't think I saw the "in a lot of respects" part in either story, but that makes a difference in the tone of the comment, at least as i read it.  Mumme basically goes on to say that McM mistakes in the kicking game was the difference.  I think he's right...to a point.

Some of those kicking game mistakes were the result of good play by UMHB players.  Darius Wilson worked for that 90 yd return. he had to weave his way through the blocking before breaking for the endzone, its not like the McM line parted like the Red Sea for the blocks to occur.  Blocking kicks has been a pretty consistent practice for the Cru for a while.  I guess in my mind that is the subtext of in a lot of respects.  We out hit and hustled their players a lot but not completely, and I think that is a pretty fair assessment.

Sioux

It was McMurry's to win.  The Nation really impressed, they were better than the Cru in every aspect of the game other than special teams and that was the difference. MHB was awesome on special teams and it proves how important that part of the game is.

CruAlum58

Obviously they werent better in every aspect. But, thats like TLU saying in 2004 that they were 9 points from the national championship.

The exact quote is ...
"in a lot of respects"

After last Saturday's game, HSU is now my favorite for the ASC, but I am hoping for an ASC Tri-Championship.

I think CruAlumn58 was responding to Sioux, Ralph, and I'm not ready to say HSU is the favorite simply because the game went like I expected.  I'm also not taking a HSU win for granted because HSU is going to bring it in a big fashion, as always.

While UMHB's defense obviously gave up a ton of yardage, one stat that was another key to them winning the game was McMurry being 4 of 18 on 3rd down conversion. The bend but don't break style of defense is always scary for fans but our defense stepped when they really had too.

I don't have a prediction for this year because everything will come down to next weekend as usually for the ASC but my prediction is McMurry will be in the top 3 next year and they appear to be there this year.
