Don't know how many local papers do this that cover the ASC, but the Abilene Reporter News generally ranks the ASC teams and Lone Star Conference teams (D2) every week. Here's the latest ... and of course - they like to make the Abilene fans happy, so HSU and McM tend to get the benefits of the doubt.

Eric Drennan at the Temple Daily Telegram does an excellent job covering UMHB, I wonder if he ranks the teams in the conference, does anyone know. Although you can always read his articles, papers don't necessarily post rankings and standings online.

Not to my knowledge however he does, along with the rest of the TDT Sports Staff, pick the winner of the UMHB game each week which should be in tomorrow newspaper.

The Abilene paper really gives McM more of the benefit of the doubnt than it does HSU.
This past Sunday is an example. McM loses, but their game is the headline on the front page of the sports section. HSU's win is buried in the thrid to last page. And that is typical.

Man, must be nice to have any Division III team get coverage on the front of the sports section.

We are lucky Pat, and sometimes we forget what others deal with - even in our own conference
-
And, baddog - as someone who is paid to hawk the ARN to see how our coverage is compared to the other schools - I think it depends on who you root for - often people from HSU and McM each feel like the other gets more coverage than the other. Same goes for Abilene High and Cooper - it's way too hard to remain neutral - and it's much easier to remember when the OTHER school gets more coverage than when your school does ... something about the human psyche  :)

The record/truth speaks for itself.

I subscribe to the telegram online and can't remember seeing a ranking.  When the Killeen Paper covers UMHB they generally do a good job.

HSU's Defense was featured on the front page of the sports page today.
I guess one of the benefits of having perennial football powers at multiple levels is good coverage.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Guess in Temple we must be really lucky, not one but two stories about Division III football. There is always more coverage this week over the others, today there is a full story about Coach Keeling.

Also like mentioned the TDT doesn't rank the teams in the ASC but they do pick the winner of the UMHB game. This week of the 7 writers on staff, 6 picked UMHB to win, including Eric Drennan, and 1 picked HSU.

Another thing the TDT mentioned was that there are only 15 reserved tickets left (guessing that is the UMHB side) for the game, it is going to be intense.

everyones talking about the simmons and baylor game this week and i"m sure it will be a great one but if hsu wins out and they still have to play mcm and if mcm can get away from some of the bad breaks and the defense continues to shine along with the passing threat that should be another great game. yhow about 3 teams sharing the lead at the end?
That is the hope for McMurry on the south side of town.
If the McMurry HSU game is for the conference lead, can Shelton hold the crowd?  ;)   :)

Probably SRO!

I can guarantee that Keeling is not taking that game anywhere!!!!

I agree with the article on Coach Keeling in the Temple paper today.  52 years of coaching, and he has won everywhere he has been.  Even better, he is a class act as a coach and person.  Great job Eric on the article.  Tomorrow is looming, two powerhouses, two great coaches, and seats are filling up like the rivers with water here in Corpus Christi, this should be fun!  I will be on the fifty yard line...(in front of my  computer screen)  ;)

TrickyTroy

It was a hot humid texas night in belton, texas as the cowboys krept into town. They attacked with might weapons and their defense could not be breach. As the crusaders ran to the hills, fearing  for their life. Their new empire has fallen and the old kinghas returned. Cusaders don't fear the cowboys are merciful and will not rant anymore. Now the ASC boards will become quite once more.   ;D

Nice article by Chad on the HSU website. Throughout all the banter this week i wish health for everyone this weekend. Hope each team plays to their full potential and that its all left on the field. If you have a chance today stop by the link above and check out the "pressbox view". Great insight to the rivalry that exists and why each team wants a win so bad.

GO COWBOYS!!!!

WELL DONE CHAD

UMHB, please listen to me, "just say no to any t-shirt for this game."  I thought it was a bad idea then, and I haven't changed my mind.  At the end of the 2004 game, many t-shirts went into the trash can outside the stadium.  Right where they needed to be. Show up, scream loud, and wear normal fan attire.

Yeah, as soon as I showed up for the pep rally the night before the UWW game and I saw shirts, I nearly turned around and left. I didn't have a good feeling.

out of curiosity...what did these t-shirts say?
