mcmfan -- They were waving their hands. The "tomahawks" were in your mind. ;D

Ralph -- And the scoreboard leaves no doubt about who won. ;D
BTW, despite the Abilene Reporter-News headline's having put McM first as having lost - again -- the fact is that HSU won!
Another BTW -- how is Mullin? It looked like a Romo-type injury.

We were not disputing the outcome of the game. We were discussing the sportmanship exhibited by the Cowboy Band and some HSU fans.

As for Mullin, I have not heard.  The announcers were talking as if it were a season ending injury.

Weak Safety

As an HSU fan, I can say I was disappointed in the Cowboy Band's choice.  I know it is a crosstown rivalry and these are college kids trying to have fun, but I know how disappointing it is to hear, "Hey...Guess What....Crusaders just kicked your butt!" or "OVERRATED!." As a fan, it's no big deal to hear.  What gets to me a little is thinking of the players on the field hearing it after giving their best and playing their hardest the entire game.

Congrats to the Cowboys.  Have a nice week off and take care of business against LC!  I'll still be a fan of McM nine out of ten weeks.

McMurry  no longer has an Indian mascot because the NCAA believes that it is potentially demeaning to Native Americans.  Towards the end of the McM-HSU game, a lot of the HSU fans, including some members of the Cowboy Band, were loudly chanting Indian cries and waving their arms like imaginary tomahawks  Should the NCAA maybe be made aware of the fact that HSU seems to allow demeaning of Native Americans?

Believes?  Potentially?  First of all, it's what the NCAA believes, who cares, Ask the McMurry folks and im pretty sure they didnt like what NCAA beleived was the right thing to do by making them remove their mascot.  Im so sick of our society where everyone gets their little "feelers" in a wad over something that is so stupid.  I would be more concerned about the Coach on the sideline cussing the refs everytime he didnt like what they called.  That bothered me alot and hope it bothered McMurry fans and players as well.  If not, then there are bigger problems for McMurry.  My son was very bothered by this and made it known he would never play for a coach that acted the way he did.  If you feel like you need to let them know, go for it.  As for as Jake, I really do hope he is ok.  Im afraid the injury may be seasong ending.   He is a good qb and deserves ALOT of credit for turning around McMurry football.

Dont get your feelings hurt.  We won the game!  Go away pc police.  I have been beaten by Mary Baylor and have heard the chants overrated.  That is their right to say that.  It goes both ways.  What it comes down to is who won the game.  You got beat. Accept defeat and move on!

I have heard that Jake will be out the rest of the season he suffered a separated shoulder no word on if he tore anything or not.

I couldn't agree more.  McMurry left the teepee up for a year or two after the NCAA took the mascot away from them, shall we call the NCAA on that as well??  You haven't beat us in 20 years.  Don't get you panties in a bunch because a bunch of band nerds were saying words and making a tomahawk motion with their hands!!!  I guess you try and find anything to complain about, to make the loss not sting as much.  You guys thought this year was your year to beat us.  I was going to get on here and ask did HSU play good or was McMurry off this day??  I am a graduate of HSU and played football for them and I too have heard the overrated chants and everything else under the sun, it comes with the territory.  Weather it is a band or a couch cru, words will be said that maybe fans don't agree with, but ultimately it doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, it really is just a game!!!

So this morning I logged onto the beloved D3football site expecting a little chatter. What i didn't expect where for McM folks to be upset about a little fan mocking. Why would that bother you? You played a good game. Lost a key player and still hung in there for 4 quarters. Those kids never gave up! Excellent effort from MCM. This weekends post should have been more about the sacrifices the players have made to turn the team around. Not the lose you suffered or the taunting you felt like you got after that lose?

Ralph,
what would have been the attitude of the McM fans if they had pulled this one out? Would HSU have heard the beloved "overrated" chant? Or would you guys have quietly collected your things and exited shelton stadium? I was a student at HSU and experience many of those Overrated chants. Its the game of football its not as much bad sportsmanship as it is pride in your team. I suspect that if McM had won the game we would have been on the business end of some "poor sportsmanship" ourselves. Players play and fan cheer or boo depending on the situation. At the end of the day its just football and each game has a winner and loser.

I watched the game on the HSU feed and i was impressed with the way MCM moved the ball. Maybe this morning we should all talk about what McM will look like without Jake and how MCM will match up at LC.

BTW GIVE ME A BREAK YOU GUYS AREN"T REALLY UPSET ABOUT THE SPORTSMANSHIP. YOU'RE UPSET ABOUT LOSING A GAME YOU FELT LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE WON. Should we let the NCAA know that TEE PEE VILLAGE IS ALIVE AND WELL AT HOMECOMING EVERY YEAR ON THE RESERVATION?

Speaking of Jake. Has anyone heard the extent of the injury he suffered Saturday? If and when we find out i'd be interested to know. Until then i'm praying it isn't season ending for him.

The Hal Mumme show comes on the radio tonight and I usually listen while at work.  If I hear something I'll pass it on.

My guess is there would have been exuberance and then silence as the excited Nation faithful keeled over in shock.

Cowboy fan - I was at the game and somewhat agree with you, but the thing that most of this criticism about a coach and losing and chants, I for one sitting on the MCM side because my grandson plays for MCM heard no one complaining about chants from our rivals, and sure some of the people were complaining about some calls, but that happens in a lot of games, but what Mumme was really pissed about what when the new quarterback when in for Mullins and was sacked a couple of plays latter, even my grandson, standing on the sidelines, said that a lot of players were talking how dirty some of their players were, especially when Mullins was hit and on the ground getting punched and also the other quarterback that got sacked, punched in the stomach and when he got up vomitted. The players said one of the refs was laughing, especially when he was standing next to the play.THIS IS NOT PART OF FOOTBALL!!!!

I wasn't at the game so i can't speak on it.. But as a fan it sounds more like sour grapes than earnest complaints. I did watch much of the game on the live video feed from HSU's website (thanks Chad! nice addition this year). But from that distance it would not be easy to catch a dirty play. So i'll just agree that it wouldn't be right. I had a bit of a chuckle myself when the McM back up started puking.. But i didn't think it was from a dirty play. If that was the case then your real beef is with the Ref's who are resposible for making sure such play doesn't go unpenalized. I will however say that is out a character for HSU and the plays i saw.. Including the hit on Mullin seemed to be clear solid football. I do understand the frustration of being so close just didn't see the things most people are talking about.

Looked like good football to me? Any HSU fans in attendence have anything to add?

As for Mumme's cussing on the sidelines and at the refs thats the guy you hired and i think everyone knew what they were getting into with that hire. He's been good for the program and if you have a moral objections to his reactions to plays then i guess that would be on you. Football is an emotional game and i'm not offended by anything that takes place there.

LC heads west this week to take on McMurry. The Wildcats have a lot of weapons on offense and can score early and often. However, the Cats bring a Dalmatian Defense (plays well in spots) into the game and will have play much better than this past Saturday to secure a win.

kelly, with mullin out some of the pressure will be off.  it'll be interesting to see how warren does starting.

Sorry to hear about Mullin. Hate to hear about injuries to key players.

LC is already playing for next year. It would be great for the Cats to win out and and end the season 7-3. There are some good seniors on this ball club and they have contributed greatly to the advance of the program. However, IMO, the Wildcats future is so bright I think we (the fans) are going to need shades to watch them in the seasons to come!

Two big tests remain for LC: McM on the road and HSU, bye rested and needing a win to insure a playoff bid. It should be an exciting two weeks for the LC Wildcats.

Cowboy fan- I agree with you completely on a great game in which HSU did dominate the line, and again its part of football when someone gets hurt or a call doesn't go your way you feel you lost because of refs or whatever. Again I personally didn't pay attention to anything as far as chanting against MCM, and if they did again its part of football not anyones heritage. Lets all change the subject and take it we got beat by a better team and hopefully next year we may squeeeeeeeze by and beat them.
