The CRU head to Alpine this week.  What an awful drive.  8 hrs of nothingness.  I wander how this year's team will handle the road trip and game.  When I played that was always one of the hardest games to get up for.  Did any of you other players on here have a hard time getting focused to play the Lobos in Alpine?
If it's not about winning and losing then why keep score?

Since I started the controversy about the class (or lack of it) of the fans, let me end it by expressing my respect for the HSU coaching staff.  I realize that HSU has to look as good as possible to get a Pool C bid to the playoffs, but in the last minute when they could have tried to get another touchdown against our exhausted defense to raise their score, they kneeled the ball instead.  I think that showed a lot of class.

Incidentally, to everyone who says McM has improved over last year: We actually had a better point spread in the 2009 McM-HSU game!

"Incidentally, to everyone who says McM has improved over last year: We actually had a better point spread in the 2009 McM-HSU game!"

You also finished the 2009 game with your starting QB. That says alot about McM's need for Mullin.

ETBU is back in action this week as they hit the road to take on Howard Payne in Brownwood.  ETBU looks to keep the strong play going as in their last two outings they have beaten Mississippi and taken UMHB into overtime.  A win here puts ETBU in position to finish at .500 on the year and .500 in conference.

An interesting side note in this game is that two brothers will be squaring off against each other,  Howard Payne quarterback Zach Hubbard and ETBU Qb Seth Hubbard.  Last year I can remember seeing their family in the stands all wearing t-shirts calling it the "Hub Bowl."  Pretty neat thing for that family thats for sure!

CruAlum58

CruAlum55 I agree the trip to the Pine is always a tough trip. I think the coaches out there have a better plan than when we used to play them (If you remember the Orbit defense in 02). Word is UMHB has the real deal at WR I am excited to see more from him. If we can pair a downfield threat with that rushing attack it has the makings of PJ in 04.

Hello Gentlemen,

Not that any of you care, but Trinity Football is well into its decline and will have to win out to avoid a losing season.  Unfortunately for me, I do care and we all know the reason for any college football program's decline starts with the caliber of athletes that the school puts on the field, whether that is a result of the program's leadership or not, quite simply you cannot win without a large number of great athletes.

Looking at the shift that has taken place, Mary Hardin-Baylor remains strong while Hardin-Simmons seems to be operating at a slightly higher level than in recent years.  Sure, there are other division III programs in Texas that could have started to woo the type of athletes that Trinity used to, but the fact of the matter is that the Cowboys and Crusaders are the ones getting Texas's best non-scholarship talent- the people that used to choose Trinity.

I'm trying to make sense of it somehow.  Does anyone know any stories of guys choosing UMHB or HSU over Trinity?  Grumblings in our camp seem to blame our former president's massive push to diversify the student body in order to join the ranks of the country's elite institutions.

An education of acceptable quality in the course of study that s/he wishes.

If the student-athlete has various qualifications to earn financial aid within the guidelines of the institution, that student-athlete is likely to get a more competitive financial aid package.

There may also be mission-vision and campus-comfort issues that the student-athlete likes at UMHB and HSU that are not found on the Trinity campus.

TU I know for me back when I was recruited not only was it coaches, rings, and the campus, it was also my future teammates.  When you walk in to a locker room and you have all-american's or whatever take time to say hello and welcome and make you feel comfortable, that speaks volume about a program as well.  I know HSU has done some work to their facilities and weight room to make improvements as well.  I just wonder when they will make the move to the field turf???

I live in SA and I think Trinity is being hurt by Incarnate Word starting a scholarship program and UTSA a year away from fielding a team.  UTSA has invited numerous walkons that might otherwise be playing at a D3 school.

Also you have to understand HSU has a better team this year with the return of some key missing starters as well.

For one thing, Feaster was injured for the McMurry game in 2009.

This was my first McM/HSU game. I enjoyed it. I tought that HSU had a great crowd, a rowdy band. It was fun to watch. The tomahawk chop was a little classless and since your not playing the Indians, it was actually kind of stupid. Mumme cussing, not a big deal, never been around a coach at any level that did not in the heat of the momnet. The punching of Warren in the stomach did happen and there is no room in football for that as well as the eye gouging by HSU players, I am really surprised by the dirty play of what I thought was a class organization. HSU was the better team on the field, but left me wondering about the lack of class.

eye gouging of players....really?  you saw that? you've got a great eye! i commend you

This is the first time I've ever heard of HSU playing dirty.  They do play hard and are physical.
