I am not going to play judge and jury here, but I will point you to http://www.hsuathletics.com/landing/index for the video evidence. Just click on the video player of the McMurry highlights and it is the play that is titled Garrison Hardin with a sack (there are two of those so it is the second one). You can make the video full screen, but it loses some quality.

I will let you decide if Warren was punched. It looks to me like Garrison Hardin comes around from behind and may have hit Warren, but it was not a punch. Maybe I have purple-tinted glasses on, but it just looks like a football play to me. Same thing with the play when Mullin was hurt. He was trying to throw going to the ground and Pat lands on him. Again that is just a football play.

I am not saying dirty things don't happen on the football field, but in my eyes neither play was dirty and like Bill said that would be very un-HSU like. It is not something that HSU or UMHB for that matter are known for. There is a big difference between tough physical football through the whistle and cheap shots.

Like I said, I don't want to be the jury, but I also am not going to let someone take unwarranted pot shots at our players and team without at least letting you decide for yourself.

From the video HSUsid just linked us too...I didn't see anything that looked like a punch

Bill McCabe

They're kidding about a punch, right!  :-[

I didn't see a punch either, bottom line to me is certain things are going to happen at the bottome of a pile in football and I would not be surprised if you told me it happened at any program. Now somethings are clearly over the line but there is always a good way to get  back at people and that is beating them on the scoreboard.

OK, you are in the stands watching a game. Even in a smaller stadium like HSU's a punch and eye gouging (come on, seriously, in a pile up you can see that from the stands?) would have to be pretty flagrant to be obvious from that distance and as fast as things happen. The stats indicate that HSU was penalized much more often (12-7) and for more yardage (96-52) than McM. So, the refs were not reluctant to flag HSU. If that is the case, why would they not flag HSU for such obvious "dirty play"?
Maybe it is a case of seeing what we want to see.

I just watched Quincy Daniels interview from after the ETBU game and all I have to say is WOW...I always thought UMHB had a class program on the field, but that interview right there shows me how class of a program UMHB is off the field.  That was not what I was expecting when I clicked on the interview.  I expected to hear how UMHB kept ETBU in the game or something along those lines, and instead some of the first words out of his mouth are him congratulating ETBU and their coaching staff on being ready to play and bringing it for 60+ minutes.  Thats a classy individual and UMHB just gained alot of respect in my book.

Having known Q since he was a sophomore at Belton High, this is who he is. As I've said on the boards before, he would rather be known for who he is off the field, not what he is on the field.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

This was my first McM/HSU game. I enjoyed it. I tought that HSU had a great crowd, a rowdy band. It was fun to watch. The tomahawk chop was a little classless and since your not playing the Indians, it was actually kind of stupid. Mumme cussing, not a big deal, never been around a coach at any level that did not in the heat of the momnet. The punching of Warren in the stomach did happen and there is no room in football for that as well as the eye gouging by HSU players, I am really surprised by the dirty play of what I thought was a class organization. HSU was the better team on the field, but left me wondering about the lack of class.

Keep wondering!  I've been around the block a few times and I've known HSU's coaches, traditions, aspirations, goals, etc...for over 50 years!   This is preposterous!   Unless I saw it, or the player said it happened, I highly doubt it REALLY took place.  Coack Keeling would NOT like it...and he certianly would not condone it!   HSU is proud of the Sports Programs!  HSU has a history of accomplishments that any college would be envious of!  In short, HSU does not have to resort to such behavior.  I"m proud of the Cowboy Band...they are sometimes a little unorthodox,  but they are just having fun with no maliciousness intended.  It is their "nature"...and we love them.

Well said dsc!!!  As a former member of the World Famous Cowboy Band, that is our nature.  We do push the envelope, and I know we can rub people the wrong way, but we're just out there having a good time.  No harm is meant by any of it!!!

Well as far as a coach cussing in the heat of the moment, Jimmie Keeling, I can say I have never heard him curse.  Granted I played on the defensive side of the ball, and didn't spend loads of time with him, but I can GUARANTEE I never heard him curse at a ref.  I don't care if he disagreed with a call or whatever it was.  Maybe a former offensive player from HSU can talk more about that.

And Sioux without video evidence of your own, and not just a i think i saw something, I really don't think you need to come on here and drop these sort of accusations against my alma mater, or for that fact Coach Keeling.  So take your 20 years of bitterness and go cry somewhere else.  Like it was said earlier in the week, I guess fans will try and find something to take the sting out of a loss.

I think everyone on both sides are getting to the point of defending themselves, whether it be MCM on accusations of dirty play or HSU claiming it didn't happen. My grandson plays for MCM and from what he has said it was not a dirty hit on Mullins, and they did get beat, but the punching of the 2ndd string qb did happen at the bottom of the pile, which god only knows it probably happens in all of football, part of the game. Although I am partial to MCM they played not a good game compared to how well HSU played and therefore the better team won. See you all next year.

Speaking of Mullin, is he going to be out the rest of the year?

You obviously have never been in a pile during a football game.  A lot of action goes on in these piles.  If you dont like it, go watch chess. Things may get crazy in the heat of the "momnet" but I dont think there will be any eye gouging in chess.  Lets be honest, you are mad because you get beat by HSU every year.

BTW60 -- I agree. Also, in a pile, well, it is a compressed tangle of aggressive men. And you cannot always tell the punch/finger/fist/hand of one person from that of another. In one pile many years ago, I bit the finger that was inside my cage. It was my teammate's (he was -- stress was my best friend). :o
Anyway, it may or may not be "sour grapes", but losing sure does make a difference in how you look at things. So does winning, of course.

Question for the HSU fans. Some of you have said that things are going to happen at the bottom of a pile in football and that really isnt dirty but typical behavior in football (which I agree with), however some of you are saying that Coach Keeling wouldn't tolerate that type of behavior.

My question is which side is correct?
