In the other football match of significance today, the #2 undefeated HSU Cowgirls lead #1 undefeated/untied Messiah 2-0 early in the second period.    HSU scored at 2' (Carlyn Powers) and again at 5' (Erin Low).

EDIT:  Messiah closes to 2-1 with a goal from Alicia Frye at 59'.

EDIT:  Messiah dominating the ball in the 2nd half, shot goes high at 83'.  Still 2-1 HSU.

EDIT:  HSU's Rebecca Roth records her 6th save at 87'.   Still 2-1 HSU.

FINAL:  HSU breaks Messiah's stranglehold (and 2+year win streak) to capture the national championship.  Congratulations, HSU!

Wesley used a mush rush most of the day and kept Bailey from getting outside. Which seemed to keep him from getting good looks at his receivers. I had a chance to listen to the post game news conference and I was impressed by the way you coach and players handled themselves.

I would like to congratulate the Cru on their season. Very Impressive. Im sure we'll see each other some time down the road, maybe even next year.  :)

Glad to hear they all handled themselves well.  I didn't get to watch the whole game, but I'm hoping that Bailey saw something new today that he can learn from.  He is a sophomore that improved greatly from last year to this year, hopefully that trend continues.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Bailey said he probably should have run a little more on a few of the sacks. I think that he had trouble finding his receivers because he had a lot of big bodies in front of him..His receivers did have a few drops.
And Coach Fredenburg talked about the goal line snaffu that cost them the 5 yrd  delay penalty. There were 12 men on the field for Wesley. Imo the refs missed it because of the hurry up O UMHB was using made them focus on the ball and linemen

Yes, that might have changed the outcome of the game.  A UMHB TD makes it a one possession game.

umhb2001, if you were at the game, there was nothing wrong with the umhb effort.  they were overwelmed by wesley's defense.  the o only had one drive of any significance.  wesley stopped the run, and the passing game is not that good.  the receivers didnt look like they wanted the ball and the qb is ok at best when throwing.  i was also surprised by how weak the option looked, very sloppy on the pitches and the qb didnt look like he wanted to run.  another thing that was odd to us as we were tailgating before the game, umhb did not arrive at the field until 1100, at least a half an hour after the other away teams have arrived the past 2 weeks.  an effort to stay warm?

to answer your question about UMHBs arrival time...I doubt it was an attempt to stay warm.  When they played in Marshall this year I could see ETBUs first pre game group getting ready to come onto the field and UMHB was just getting off of the bus.  So it seems to be the norm for UMHB to arrive closer to game time than usual

The Refs did screw that up, however UMHB should have taken the FG after the delay penalty, At least it would have given them a chance on the last drive to have a chance for the win.

txfight, thanks for that info.  it just seemed weird to show up that much later than the prevoius opponents had.  good luck next year.

Two big plays that hurt the Cru were the fumble by Bailey inside the 20 and the delay of game.  I don't understand how they could let the play clock expire.

The coaches were arguing the previous play and no one was aware of the play clock. The team broke the huddle with about 3 secs on the clock.

Coach Fred said post game that they tried to call time out, but that the refs didn't hear them.
