Since your grandson isn't on an athletic scholarship (remember, this is Division III), I can't see how he would be affected.

Pat do we know when the move will take place?

From http://www.mcmurrysports.com/news/2010/12/17/GEN_1217101446.aspx

The timeline for reclassification is determined by the NCAA after approval to enter into the candidacy period. Once an institution is accepted into the candidacy period, a span that could last up to two years, it would move to the provisional period. The provisional period would last one academic year and would require evaluation by the NCAA to become an active member of the NCAA Division II.

and

During the transitional period announced Friday, Russell said that McMurry intends and desires to be a competing member of both the ASC and the NCAA Division III until the guidelines for transition are met based on the NCAA's timeline and requirements for reclassification.

So if he's playing now it's unlikely he's going to be impacted.  I don't think they can offer any athletic scholarships until the NCAA lets them officially move to D2.

Congrats to Coach Pete Fredenburg on being elected to the Board of Trustees of the AFCA.

Congrats to all the players of the ASC who made the All-Decade team.

From UMHB, Jerrell Freeman (1st), Josh Kubiak (1st), Derrick Williams (2nd), Jeff Oliver (3rd), and Preston Meyer (3rd).

From HSU, Josh Knox (1st), Adam Hernandez (2nd), Alex Hansen (3rd), Thomas Anderson (4th), and Will Galusha (4th)

From ETBU, Scott Verhalen (3rd)

Anybody think certain players got snubbed?

Ron Boerger

That's a lot of players for one conference; I bet that if someone added them all up, the ASC (11 of 100 players, over 10% of all selections) would be second only to the OAC.  Not shabby for a conference which has never won a championship, but representative of one which has been a player on the national scene.

UW-W only has five selections despite their championships - the same number as UMHB and HSU.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Cru Back like Kubiak in te near future.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Has anyone heard who the next defensive line coach for MCM is?

During these cold, quiet days, there is time to think. Perhaps too much time for Pep to think. So Pep was musing:

The 2010 Stagg Bowl was, once again an all-purple affair. The chances of that occurring were pretty great, considering five of the eight quarter-finalists embrace purple as their dominant school color...Whitewater, Mount Union, Mary Hardin-Baylor, St. Thomas and Alfred.

It was difficult to sort out the Saxon fans from the Mount fans at Mount Union Stadium on Dec. 4, 2010. It definitely was a "Purple Out."

The color purple has only a couple words with which it rhymes. Given the desire to be clever and witty in supporting the Saxons, one is severely limited in concocting a chant with a line ending with "purple" when desiring for said chant's lines to rhyme.

So, here's an off-season challenge for all posting supporters of purple-clad teams....first, identify the TWO words (and one is a stretch) that rhyme with purple. Second, create a chant in support of your team that uses at least one of those words that rhyme with purple.

On your mark, get set.....GO!

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

I am not sure about creating a rhyme with the word, purple, but there are intense theological debates that Eve's Original Sin was eating the fruit from the Forbidden Firple Tree.   ;)

so I was browsing the Stephen F. Austin athletic website...and strolled across an interesting tidbit.  It says the Lumberjacks are opening the season against McMurry.  I assume that is the same McMurry from the ASC correct? If so WOW! Mumme is scheduling the big dogs.

McM is also playing at UT-San Antonio on September 17.

From the tone of this tome, it sounds like AUPepBand has scientifically deduced the answer to the question which has plagued us for milenia. Personally, I don't think there are any words that rhyme with purple, but maybe I'm just not enlightened. I'm fairly certain that if I were a gangster rapper and talking fast enough I could getaway with rhyming lines that end in crepe myrtle, fertile, turtle, hurdle, girdle, and Virgil with purple, but I'm not sure what application these would have in a football chant...especially the first century Classical Roman poet.

I'd just like to say that Hardin Simmons got a freaking JEWEL of a coach in Mike Salinas. I have no idea how he ended up as a WR coach and special teams coach at a d3, but this guy is a great coach and an even better recruiter. He was my D.Cooridinator and is a real good motivator. Best of luck to HSU and Coach Salinas.
