"My San Antonio" article

Creator of the Wishbone as a Darrell Royal assistant coach.

He coached the legendary Breckenridge Buckaroos to state championships in 1958 and 1959 and then the 1966 San Angelo Bobacats out of UIL 3-AAAA.  District 3-AAAA was known as the "Little Southwest Conference", when only the district champion made the playoffs.  That district had numerous state finalists from San Angelo Central, Abilene Cooper and Odessa Permian in those years from the mid 60's onward.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

The info of interest to the ASC, UMHB building a 8k to 10k seat on-campus stadium
So the football field will be built on a NNE/SSW axis and the home fans will face west, i.e., face the sun?

How far away is the fan parking for 2000 cars who might attend a game of that capacity?

looking at the drawings, the stadium will be built where the soccer field was when i first went to UMHB.  that location sits down a hill from the Maybee Center so there are some interesting options that could be exercised...maybe a bowl like stadium like shotwell in abilene?  Also, the orientation isn't much different than the that of Tiger Stadium.  The article says the home stands would be on the west (actually it says the new student union, which will be east of the stadium, will be a backdrop for the visitor's stands).  As for parking, most of it is moving to the edges of campus.  The walk shouldn't be much worse than walking from the back 40 of the current stadium.

Then the big building in the planning document on the east side of the stands is the Student Union, and the "sky boxes" will be on west side of stands?

Also included in this plan is a very deserved upgrade to the field house which will happen as soon as possible.

Got news today that its official...ETBU @ Wesley for the season opener

crualum55

I'm excited but a bit jealous about the planned upgrades for the umhb football program.  A new fieldhouse and an expanded weight room will be a great addition to a growing program and should continue to attract recruits.  Throw in a football stadium on campus and you can't beat it.  I myself would have loved to have our own stadium when I played.  Hopefully this will bring even more fans to the game to cheer on the cru.  I can't wait to see it finished.
If it's not about winning and losing then why keep score?

2 more reasons that ETBU will be looking forward to the next 4 years......Carthage QB and Godley RB

Etbu is bound to have a pretty good season in 2011 in my opinion. We are expanding our weight facilities and fieldhouse and changing our uniform look.
We have two top tier recruits committed ALREADY and we are returning 17 starters 10 on offense alone. Coupled with this information, three of our 4 conference losses came from the following programs. Who as I will briefly show, arent going to be what they were this season.

HSU-21 year veteran head coach, Offensive Coordinator, QB, WR,....Pass heavy offense. And #44
LC-QB, WR/KR...pass heavy offense that excelled in special teams.
UMHB-RB, C, OL...run heavy offense.
McMurry lost its OC...I think this might damage the progress they have been making (temporarily).

Our opener @Wesley should open some eyes. And if we get a result, should give us a landslide of momentum going into the rest of the season.

Id also like to say that i am elated that the "top" team in the conference is finally making plans for their own stadium. Belton High stadium is garbage, the playing surface is awkward and the locker rooms are pathetic. Not ot mention no matter where you go to school, an on campus stadium is a huge advantage vs. an off campus one.

I'm sure people here already know but ETBU talk is minimal on this board so...

Our confirmed week 2 opponent will be a home game against former-ASC foe Austin College.

You might be a little premature predicting a fall off because of graduation/coaching changes.  UMHB is what it is and it was that prior to Quincy Daniels and the leaving O-linemen.  I have every confidence that they will be more than ready come fb season.  McM may have lost an OC, but the creator of that offense is the head coach...they might be ok, especially with the starting QB returning with 2 years of experience in that offense.  I am curious about HSU, but keeping it in the family was popular with the team.

As for Tiger Stadium, it certainly isn't ideal, but garbage?  Come on.  I am looking forward to the on campus stadium, but I'm guessing its a few years out yet.

What can be said is that this will be an extremely competitive conference and there will be some team that stumbles and gets surprised......well, more than one team ....gonna be fun and can't wait
