ASC football is going to be exciting week in and week out from the get go.  Have teams playing top ranked teams in non-conference and every week we could see an upset (see ETBU losing to TLU and ETBU taking UMHB to overtime...makes no sense haha).  I think the conference race is as wide open as its been in a while.  Easily the top 6 teams could make a legitimate run at the title if the pieces fall the right way.

Really.  I don't think this conference has that much parity.
From 2-3 to 7 yes!

The problem is that UMHB has dominated the top spot.  The focus on parity has been lost beyond that.  I think that the ASC runner-up, and maybe down as far as #4 in the conference, would strongly contend for the Pool A bids in the ODAC, USAC South and maybe the SCAC.

I believe that there is.  Yes UMHB has been who people on the national stage see winning the conference.  But as Ralph has already said, and has been stated above 2-6 are all right there together.  Just look at how they fared against each other last year

Hardin-Simmons beat MC 45-10, ETBU 49-17, McM 34-13 and Lost to LC 44-42 and UMHB 42-28 (loss to LC kept them from likely at large bid)
Louisiana College beat MC 45-42, ETBU 49-21, McM 35-32, and HSU 44-42 and lost to UMHB 42-38
McM beat MC 28-17 and lost to UMHB 43-31, ETBU 23-21, LC 35-32 and HSU 34-13
ETBU beat McM 23-21  and MC 28-20 and lost to HSU 49-17 (led midway through 2nd quarter), LC 49-21 (was 28-21 in the 3rd) and UMHB 34-28 in overtime (closest game for UMHB all year until the loss to Wesley)
MC lost to 3 of the above 4 listed by a combined 22 pts

Now add in the fact that HSU and LC graduated some of their more prolific players of the past few years and McM, ETBU and MC all return a decent amount and you see where Parity would be a good word for the ASC and the scores alone from last year prove that the pack is starting to catch up to UMHB (by no means is it UMHB falling back to the pack).

I love Mark's yawn at the very beginning of the video.  ;D  Just started and the coaches are already worn out!  :D

I know we don't do spread but what would you put on that game?

Are any new teams coming to the ASC for football? With MU leaving will they be replaced? Thanks!

Rumors is former Temple RB Lach Seastrunk has asked to be released from Oregon. Rumor is he is transferring to Baylor.

Here's to hoping the report left off "Mary Hardin" by mistake ;)

TLU Graduate Lundquist Wins Outstanding Contribution to College Football Award

Some of you may remember Mr Lundquist when he was the host of the WFAA-TV television show, "Bowling for Dollars".

Actually that is an inside joke.

I believe that I remember the story this way.

He had just finished broadcasting an NCAA ballgame with highly-ranked Texas A&M in the mid-1970's.  He drove up to a gas station and was recognized by the attendant, not for college football broadcasts, but because he hosted a bowling show, Monday thru Friday, at 6:30pm on Channel 8 in Dallas.

Ralph,
Was that in the early 70's? Chick Hearn (former Lakers announcer) also hosted a "Bowling for dollars" show for Indy TV station KTLA (channel 5 in Los Angeles area) in the 70's.

He may have.

I specifically remember watching Channel 8's "Bowling for Dollars" with Verne Lundquist.  I hope that I recalled the details of that story correctly.

Ralph,
I would guess that several stations around the contry in major markets had their own version,
as bowling was bigger back then. I just thought it to be interesting that two very famous and long term announcers had stints on a bowling show early in their careers.

Good Evening all - it has been a long time since I have made a post - still follow McMurry and the ASC every year. As always excited that it is football season and we are only about a week away from McMurry starting it off with a bang against SFA. (Which I will Be at) Dr Turner it has been way too long, hope all is well. We are good down here in the Houston area.  I have added another "Indian" to my bunch, another daughter.  I will be at the SFA game with a customer, and will proabably be with Dad, proudmcmdad, for the UTSA game in San Antonio.  To all other teams in the ASC...it was a pleasure and honor to play against the ASC for my years at McMurry.  Good luck to everyone!! God Bless, stay safe and hit'm hard.  The only way to play!

Eric, I am trying to get to the SFA game, too.  Will you dad attend?

Look for me!
