I don't think the details have been posted anywhere I've seen but typically there is a guarantee involved, and I would assume it is decent from FCS schools.

Plus they are heading to D2, so this may be a way to raise funds AND raise visibility for their program.
Hal Mumme said on today's coach's show that McM is getting 60k for the scholarship program, and that the reason for playing SFC was that the option was play in Wisconsin with no return game.

SFA is ranked 14th and they are a very good team.  I just don't see how this game helps McM in any way.  They are jumping 2 divisions to play a scholarship team without the benefit of scholarship players.  A big loss will not help their visibility.  I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid they are in for a long game.

Did he say which team it was in Wisconsin?
No. The full thought he shared was that some team backed out on them and "one of the Wisconsin teams that wouldn't give a return game" was an option or SFA because both were looking for someone to play and it was 60k for the scholarship fund.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I don't think that I saw the last SFA-McM game, in 1971.

We won 30-29.  The media guide does not say where the game was played.  If someone has a 1972 Totem, then we may be able to tell where the game was played.  The SFA site does not have that information.  They mention that SFA is 3-1 in games in Nacogdoches since 1965.  If the 4 games were 1965, 1967, 1969 and 1971, McMurry only won that 1971 road game.

We lead the all-time series 6-3-2.

Making that record 7-3-2 or 6-3-3 would really raise some eyebrows.

I met one of the new RBs last night at work, a kid named Jordan from Stephenville. Said he was supposed to go to TCU but had knee surgery so the offer was rescinded.

I did not take the time to tabulate all of the games from the pre-WW II era.

McMurry was 3-3-1 versus SFA when we were in the Lone Start Conference in the 1960's and early 1970's.

We also beat them several times in the 1930's.

Shucks, we are a 3-3-1 against SFA since we last defeated HSU.   :)  ROTFL

New to the board, have read as a guest for a couple of years.  I have a son playing at HSU, junior this year and I played at Austin College back in the 80's when Sartain was a grad asst.  Just wondering as well what will be consider a positive ouctome for McMurry tonight.  I know the obvious is a win, but if that is not the case, how do you spin a say 55-14 loss into a positive and does the pay out translate into a positive thing if you lose morale or lose a couple of key players.  I agree, most of the players at DIII are equally talented as many playing at other levels, just tend to be very undersized and 180 moving at 4.4 vs. 215 moving at 4.4 is not an equal collision.  Any thoughts?  And I am glad to be here with you all. I have enjoyed your comments throughout the seasons and will remind you also that this isn't the first time HSU has had to replace a QB or receivers or other skill players.  After watching the scrimmage the other day, we should be in good shape to contend this year.

question

I guess we have all wander what would a really good D3 team do against a Southland Conference team.  We are going to find out.  It apprears he has some big time players for McMurry.  The former Nebraska LB and the Oklahoma RB and New Mexico State Saftey.  I am excited to see this.  One of two things are going to happen.  This is an whipping and never happens again or this becomes regular.   I always thought a game would be close, I mean 28-14 type of game.  Or this never ever happens again.

question

I saw Whitewater play, and they do not want none of this SFA team.

crufootball

Not looking good for the Warhawks as they trail SFA 25-0 with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter. McMurry has fumbled 4 times losing it twice and threw a pick 6.

question

The secondary is so much faster, they keep hitting them and they fumble

31-0.

O well, they'll do better against UTSA.

Make it 31-6 after an 88-yd INT return by Will Morris.   ;D

question

This was not a good idea.  UTSA game , not a good idea for nobody in the conference.  Big diffrence D1 and D3.

question

That Morris is the best d player on the field for both teams though

Ron Boerger

2-pt conversion, SFA?  Really?

Bill McCabe

SFA can probably score as many points as they want.  2 pt conversion makes no sense.
