I listened to the game while working last night and while the score shows the ugliness, it sounded like they played a better game against D1 FCS talent than the 72-0 drubbing they took in Belton in 2005. I was at that game and there was no McM defense, everybody the Cru handed the ball to was going for 60 and a td. While the scoreboard doesn't say it, McM did have some defensive success; they had the 88yd pick six + 2 others, they held them to Field goal attempts twice, and forced a fumble and a punt. That says a lot to me given that the defense has been the biggest issue I've seen since I started watching McM. If they're defense plays well all season, they will have a good year verses the other ASC schools, especially if their DBs can limit passing success. Do i think they will beat UMHB in the conference opener? No, but this game doesn't change that opinion, I am after all a Cru homer, but as long as the coach can keep them off the mental ledge these first couple of weeks, I think they can still finish second or third in the conference. I'll have a better informed opinion after I have a chance to engage some of the guys on the team and see how they're taking the loss, but I'm not hanging up hope yet.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

It should also be noted that in the reporter news Mumme says he asked the team to do something they weren't capable of. http://www.reporternews.com/news/2011/sep/02/stephen-f-austin-hands-mcmurry-record-loss/

Reading that article makes the game seem completely surreal.  What were they thinking?  Going for it in their own territory 4 times and failing.

Yeah, not the best decisions ever made

question

Last time, I will talk about it, but I saw the game.  The Abilene radio fellow made the game sound better than it was.  They could have played the game to keep the score alright.  Like Bill said they would not punt.  They cannot run the ball in that offense.  I will say this UMHB plays them with there offense it has it would have been a 42-14 game.  They would have ran the clock.

But I do hope there is improvement, but like I said earlier confidence is what is scary.  Like many have said hindsight is 20/20.

Is this the year someone besides UMHB wins the ASC title?

Yes:  7 (31.8%)
No:  15 (68.2%)

I just saw this in the SA paper.....UTSA agreed to show their last 5 home games on the new Longhorn Network.  This includes the McMurry game.....

Too bad the only carrier w/LHN at present is Grande.    Do they serve the Abilene area?

LHN/ESPN are playing hardball, want the providers to carry LHN on basic or expanded basic at 40 cents/month/subscriber.  I don't want to have to pay for this crap.

Does anyone get the LHN?

Things are hopping at the Alamodome today for UTSA's first game.  They are going to have a record crowd and I wonder what type of crowd there will be for the McMurry game.

ETBU seems to be holding their own.

It's been fun waking up and driving to work each morning to see the Cru preping for the new season. Living on campus and talking to some of the guys, they are excited and focused for the new season.

There have been a couple of articles in the local papers that have been great in giving coverage to the  Cru. The Temple Daily Telegram and the Belton Journal have both had quality articles. Much props to them. They've both spoke of some exciting new aspects to the team this year, some advancements to their philosophy, and some added players that sound exciting. I'm looking forward to the start.

Listening to the ETBU game and obvisously pulling for my fellow ASC teams. Lets go ETBU!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Ugly live stats they are using, something called "NeuLion" which I've never heard of.  Give me PrestoSports any day!

EDIT:  And for those still stinging after McM's big loss the other day, consider this:  D-1 FCS UTSA, in their first-ever game, is leading a D2 opponent that was 6-5 last year, returned 17 starters, and won 43-0 last week by a 21-0 count after one.    Northeastern State got their initial first down on the last play of the quarter.

Hardin Simmons up on Coe 21-14. Video up and running.

Larry Coker has had 2 good recruiting classes.  I don't think it looks good for McM next week in the dome.
