McMurry vs. UTSA Highlights

I hope we can play like that too cowboyfan, and by play like that I mean win the game and set records while doing it. While it was a close game UMHB left the field with 3 things, a victory, things to work on, and a passing game.

To expand on all three, this game looked very similar to the game last year in La Crosse which was very close but at the end of the day you only need to win by one. La Crosse came out just like last year and looked ready to play and the Cru didn't for the first half, then our coaches and players had time to correct things and came out and won.

Now I am not dumb enough to think that the Cru looked great out there, they didn't since they had 4 interceptions, 12 penalties and the power running game didn't look good at times.  None of these are highlight film material but I will add that the Cru gained 511 yards, our punt return game looked awesome and the Cru D held La Crosse to 4 of 14 on 3rd down and 0 for 1 on 4th down.

Last but certainly not least UMHB left the game with a passing game the likes of which it has not seen in a long time. LiDarral Bailey threw for 281 yards, which is the 3rd best game total in school history and set a record for the most completions in a game. Also Bailey broke the career UMHB rushing record for QB's as a junior during the game.

So with all that said the UMHB coaching staff will have lots of things to yell about this week but if we can improve as much as most teams do in their second game I like our chances against anyone.

If you play like that against a few teams in the ASC you will be eaten alive. I thought HSU struggled a little on Saturday as well. Just couldn't resist taking a little shot. I can assure you it is all in good fun. But go ahead and ding the Karma points anyway since i hurt your feelings.

If they play like that early in the game against McM next week they might find themselves in too big of a hole to climb out of. That said. I really liked what I saw in the second half when the new schemes and positions seemed to start clicking. Assuming the kinks are all worked out before next saturday's game ends, The UMHB-HSU game might be a lot of fun to watch.

The McMurrys have been extremely dangerous since Mumme took the reigns. I have the utmost faith in Pete and his staff to have a game plan to attack them in all 3 facets of the game. If Im not mistaken, special teams was the difference in last years match-up.

I also want to say that UMHB owns HSU and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

The most improvement comes between game one and two.

Pardon me if this was asked before, but McMurry beats a D1 school, but yet they don't even get 1 vote in the Top 25 D3football poll!!     I noticed they got 3 votes in the preseason, but 0 in week 1. Does anybody here think it's a little peculiar that they don't even get one vote in this weeks edition? You'd think someone would cast a vote their way.

All good things will come to an end.  And Coach Burleson and the boys will be ready this year, but dont worry it all matters the second time we meet anyway.  Freakin NCAA!!!

Well, I mean, it is true. UTSA is clearly an unknown quantity, about as unknown as it gets. It's hard to know what to make of the game in terms of assessing how McMurry compares to the rest of Division III.
