I'm not really sure why you keep referring to the fewer number of seasons UMHB has had. It seems like such a young program shouldnt be able to have so much success against a program with SO much tradition and so many years under their belt. If the only thing HSU has on UMHB is more seasons, that pretty much proves who owns who. The last time HSU beat UMHB during the 2004 regular season.

Also i don't see the past 7 seasons of UMHB handling HSU being a "phase". There's no reason the punishment wont continue for many years to come. I think HSU has a great program and i'm really not dogging on them, just stating facts. And i think theyre probably at top 4 or 5 team every year, and its wrong for them to meet the Cru every year in the first round and get smashed, because really that shouldnt happen until the quarter or semi-finals or so.

It's posts like this that make me wish the NCAA would turn a blind eye and let me strap them on one more time and meet this jackwagon on the field!!!   Ehhh not worth it though.  HSU is going to be fine.  New coach, new staff, new traditions, new attitude.  Just know crow doesn't taste very well, I've eaten plenty!!!  Better tell your boys to focus on the Indians before you get to the Cowboys.  (they will always be the Indians to me)

I have no doubt that Coach Pete has the boys focused on McMurry, I know they have my full attention. I am beginning to wonder if McMurry will have any let down having to come down to us D3 folks? Going from playing in front of 30,000+ fans in the Alamo Dome to 2,500 in Tiger Stadium is a little bit of a drop in aderaline I would assume.

One question for you though Minni, you say that HSU will be fine since they have a new coaching staff, traditions, etc are you suggesting a change was neccessary to get back to the top?

Ralph Turner

No, I don't think that McMurry is looking past UMHB. Playing at their place is enough motivation.

I will be worried with the rest of the conference.  McMurry is getting the target on their backs, just like UMHB and HSU have.

From what I've seen so far, HSU isn't missing a beat with the changes. I don't think that means change was necessary, but sometimes a change in perspective and approach is beneficial. The time will come when Coach Fred decides to hang up the clipboard. I hope the Cru is as ready for the change as HSU seems to be.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I love Coach Keeling to death and there is not another man in this world I would have rather played for.  Am I saying a change was neccessary?  Sometimes a change in scenery can do a world of difference.  Keelings thumbprint will forever be on Cowboy Football.  I think Coach Burleson and his staff is putting a fresh twist to Cowboy football and should see some success.  I wish them the best and support Coach Burleson and his staff.  I would love to be part of that staff as well.  I hear he is a great coach.

CruFrenzy...et al...

I don't "keep bringing it up"...for an unknown reason (out of the blue) some Crusader made the statement something to the tune of "UMHB owns HSU"...regardless of the record...that statement is unnecessary ::)  Yes, UMHB has done quite well since coming on the scene...
And, it is embarrassing to keep losing...I think it is 8 or 9 straight    :'(   Some years 2 games...because of the playoff ($$) system!!!

Even the Yankees don't win the World Series every year!  ;D  I only hope that HSU AND UMHB can continue to have great teams...and represent the ASC (and Texas) in an outstanding way.  There is no need to "rub it in."   >:(

Here's to all the ASC teams  :-*

Cowboys forever!!!

This is a great post and I'm going to tell you why. First of all, DSC has it right, no one ever keeps winning. I'm sure Bobby Cox and the Braves, who are one of my favorite teams, couldn't imagine their own string of luck during the 90's or imagine that ending. Yet, the Mets and the Phills have both done amazingly well, much to my angst. I love UMHB as DSC love HSU, and both of us would like to see their respective team win and keep winning, but to assume that will allways and forever happen, well, we all know what happens when one assumes.

Secondly, at no point does he degrade UMHB, spell their name backwards, or slam anyone in the process. We need more of these types of posts and leave the name calling, underhanded jabs, and worthless banter off the post. I for one would like to see UMHB get past the Cowboys, past Wesley, past Linfield, past WW, and past MU. That, I'm sure, is their goal as well. Conference championships are nice, but as baseball disperity has proved, the wild card can win it all. I want UMHB to focus on getting better one week at a time and rise to the standard each game presents and I think they will do so.

Go luck to all ASC teams, and McMurry, I hope you do well enough to lose by 1.

Question,

Can someone tell me what the makeup of McMurry's team is this year? Have they already begun offering scholarships or does that not start until next off season? Thanks.

McMurry cannot offer football scholarships this year, no.

You will notice that there are something like 17 transfers on the roster.  It would not surprise me if some of them are there this year in anticipation of being first in line for scholarships next year.   Not saying the coaching staff or anyone there has said anything to that effect, made any promises, or done anything that is contrary to NCAA rules.

Not entirely true. There are four NEW transfers to the roster for 2011, the other 13 listed on our roster transferred in before 09 or '10 season before any talk of D2 surfaced. You'll also notice out of the four transfers Colin Lund (PK), Greg Freeman (WR), A. Sanchez (DL), Ross Benge (LB); only two are on the travel roster, and Lund is the only player with significant playing time in the first two games.

In all fairness, I will add a fifth, Hayden Nauert transferred from ACU as a kicker, he's not on the travel roster.

Thanks for the clarification - I stand corrected.

Ralph Turner

Thanks for the kind words about McMurry in this week's South Region Review!

There's a chance, and man are we praying, that there could be some rain tomorrow evening. Now, with the turf, it won't affect things too much on the ground, but the air raid may be in for an interesting time. We'll see. We really need rain, big time, so we'll see what happends.

Even with the new AirCru offense? Wow, 30 passes last week. Though, I agree that their running game is vastly superior.

As dry as the entire state of Texas is I think every UMHB fan would gladly sit in the rain and watch the GroundCru run the ball every play  ;)
