Heck of a team you Cru fans have there in Belton. Redlands has a long way to go to even be close to that level. Overall a good measuring stick and learning experience for my Dawgs. Good luck the rest of the way.
Have a safe trip back.

How does UMHB compare to NCC?

RFB

Redlands played just about a perfect game against NCC at home. NCC is very talented and big on the front line. You can't teach that size at the DIII level. UHMB has the athletes though to take them deep in the playoffs so it should be interesting to see how they perform.

McM Blue Devil

It was a really great game in San Antonio today and I think two pretty evenly matched teams.  I was impressed again with Trinity's defense and really thought that Mykissic started off real well, but did struggle with consistency as the game progressed.  Both teams played hard and never gave up.  As with most big games, turnovers and special teams was the difference. There was an unsung hero in my eyes.  When McMurry scored their second half TD, they got some key runs by Austin Brooks.  It was the right change of pace at the right time.  Anyway, a real entertaining game and was proud to be a Warhawk and a Tiger today.

The SCAC board is locked (must be an accident) so I will congratulate McMurry on overcoming a number of plays that could have stopped a lesser team.  The blocked kick that was fumbled out of the end zone after a War Hawk had recovered it could have really been a huge swing, but your D came right back and got a pick on the very next play.   Never thought I would see the day (recently) when McMurry became a running team, but you did that pretty darned well.  The defense, though, was the story.  Congratulations and good luck in the UMHB rematch.  Obviously to win that game, you'll have to minimize the mistakes you had today, but maybe a week's time will allow Mullin to heal enough to play.  He was throwing the ball in very early warmups but was stepping very gingerly.

On the SCIAC board I noted that I believe the refs at the MHB game were from the WIAC.  I would be interested in their take on whether UMHB or UWW is better.

Yes thanks RFB, Were you able to be at the game here in Texas? I do think that Coach Maynard and the Redlands Bulldogs will take this experience and benefit from it. He is a good coach with a very good staff. With some good off season preperation and good recruiting they certainly are capable of developing into a team of this Caliber. Safe trip back to So Cal. I miss that Cali sunshine ,but will not be there until  the playoff run of the Cru is over. Will not be visiting my Parents and family there for Thanskgiving. Will be home for Christmas hopefully with some Stagg bowl souvenirs and Bling Bling/harware  :)

No, I wasn't able to make the game. I listened to it over the internet as the Redlands announcers do a great job.

From the Temple Telegram game story -

Not trying to be snide toward Redlands at all with this post!  I just find this to be a fairly remarkable defensive accomplishment in the playoffs.

On the other side of the ball, Redlands quarterback Chad Hurst — averaging 73 yards rushing and 212 passing per game — had little room to operate. Midway through the third quarter, the junior had run for only 8 yards and thrown for just 42 before padding his final numbers against UMHB's backups.

"They had a guy who was keying on me all the time," Hurst said. "I (couldn't do what) I did a lot in league play."

Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Gray Fox

That seems accurate to me.  A lesser team would not have been able to do that.

Just listened to the podcast and the McM/UMHB game gets some love.

I would like to state for the record that this Crusader fan has been banging the drum for McM as a good team since last season and certainly think that the week 3 game said more about McMs strength than UMHBs relative weakness. That said, I do think that the lightening storm and the 5 minute half time benefited McM because it allowed adjustments by McM and broke the momentum UMHB had. Still it was a fantastic game and I'm pretty sure this weeks will be as well.

Concerning this weeks game, I'll get the convo started, I think whether or not Mullin plays has a huge impact on the game. I've watched Warren play since he was the QB @ Abilene High and I don't think he will have the ability to get away from UMHBs D and make something happen in the way that Mullin does. If Warren starts and gives UMHB a statue to attack McM won't score many points. If Mullin plays and isn't too hampered by the bum knee, this game will be very exciting.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Ralph Turner

I think that you are right about he relative gifts of the 2 QB's.

Warren is a good QB and will be a good QB next year.  Mullin is a real talent.

The podcast mentioned other factors in the Trinity game and I encourage all fans to listen.

The McMurry team needs to step up its game, as does every team in the post-season (...not a new fact).

The CRU have been the King.  You gotta beat the best.

And the non-partisan ASC fan wonders whether the ASC has a better chance with McMurry or UMHB versus Linfield or Wesley.  This is a great post-season.

Yes good pod cast for the set up of UMHB vs McM  playoff / rematch.......                                                                                                         Personally I am happy to see a rematch of the 2 power players of the ASC. We would all agree that the CRU had the momentum going for them against the War Hawks before the lightning strikes and the long delayed break in the game.              Momentum shifted and McM came back and just about handed the Cru a rare conferance loss. The Cru had a conferance loss in 09, prior to that  their last conferance  loss  was in 05.                                                                                        The question at that time was.... is the Cru weaker this year and on their way down ?, perhaps not even able to be in this years post season play? or Is this McM team the real deal ?and a fully resurected program under Hal Mumme?                                                                                                               Well I think that both of those questions have been answered.. The Cru is alive and well, undefeated , top seed and ready to make another run at Salem.                         Also Yes for sure McM Warhawks seem to be a legitamate contender and could also represent the ASC respectfully.                                                                                 McM does seem to have a good back up in Warren at QB.  He did a very good job against Trinity. Personally I truly do hope to see that Mullin is ready and able to play giving the War Hawks all the ability to compete at their full potential.                             I also feel that you have to beat the best to be the best!                                              True: Cru has been king of the ASC but their sights are on the top of the mountain. The Mountain that has been ruled by UMU AND UWW. It would be great to see an ASC banner flying high up that Mountain.                                                                                                             Best of luck to all you Warhawks and safe travels

So is it a torn meniscus as they said?

Also, which is the better QB, Mullin or Harris from LC? Harris was a dynamic player that really worked us over, so I think our team learned a lot from that.

Also, I don't think UMHB played its best game as our O was not what it is now. Obviously, what we do and what McMurry does won't be surprised by anything as we are very familiar with each other.

I expect Coach Mumme to come out and try to pour it down our throats, as I expect Coach Fred wants to send McMurry packing with a big loss too. Nothing like two teams with a lot of history, a lot of knowledge about the other team, and, in my opinion, some bad blood between the two. Should be a great game.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Bill McCabe

Defensive pressure will definitely be a key to the game in Belton.  Looking back at the first game, UMHB had the game well in hand and moving toward a blowout, when they threw 2 INTs, one a pick 6.  I'm looking forward to this game with UMHB being in the I.

Ralph Turner

I think that Mullin is the better QB.

Harris might have more athleticism. (Conversely, does he play baseball as well as Mullin?)

Harris might make more plays, but I think that Mullin makes fewer mistakes that cost games.

Both can carry their respective teams.
