The play of Bailey at QB for UMHB may be a bigger key to the outcome.  Since the Mississippi College game, he has thrown 1 INT and 11 TDs.  His running ability his being utilized much better now than earlier in the season.  UMHB had 323 yards rushing against McMurry in the first game and I hope that pounding the ball is the game plan this week.  I think play action passes out of the I have made the Cru much more explosive on offense.  Bailey seems to be more comfortable throwing out of the I.

I think that Mullin is the better QB.

Harris might have more athleticism. (Conversely, does he play baseball as well as Mullin?)

Harris might make more plays, but I think that Mullin makes fewer mistakes that cost games.

Both can carry their respective teams.
Question? When was the name change of  the McM  Choctaws to War Hawks ? Who's decision was that? and why after so many years and tradition of being Choctaws ? Anything to do with moving up to D2 ? just wondering

Cruzader, I think they were the Indians and I believe they dropped the mascot due to the NCAA.

Any pressure to change that mascot?

Oh I see.. I guess the NCAA feels like they have to conform and be politically correct. I personally think that most Native Indians would be proud to represent a Major Learning institution/University.  I stand corrected, it is Mississippi College that are the Choctaws. Hope they are not forced to refrain and have to change their mascot name.                                      Yes , I also feel that Bailey at QB for the Cru is a much bigger threat than Mullins at QB for McM.

Again, is Mullen's knee a meniscus issue? Seems like he could be done then. I don't know much about those things, but it seems that would be pretty painful to play through.

LB has been much better since the switch to the I. It seems as though the Offense is much stronger, confident, and flexible since the "change" back to the I. I hope it pays off.

For those who have seen or were at the MCM/Trinity game, how did the Trinity D compare to what UMHB throws out every week?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Kelly , who does or did your Son play for and what years. My Son played for UMHB 05-09, 4 year starter and a graduate assistant 2010

MCL and meniscus are not the same thing.

MCL is a knee ligament, the medial collateral ligament. Meniscus is the cartilage in the knee, and this is a partial tear, as I understand it.

This is why I hate when people use medical jargon alone in describing an injury and not the common-sense terminology. What is a laceration? It's a cut. An abrasion? A strain. Etc, etc.

The Choctaws should be alright with their name, they received the blessing for lack of a better word form the local Choctaws to keep the name.

Yes, the team with an Indian name must have the blessing, support of a specific tribe to carry the name.

Sometimes they even pay for the right, or a "royalty" to the local tribe (FSU)!  ;)

Cruzader,

My son played at LC as a freshman last year. After spring practice this year he decided to focus on his studies and forgo football. I graduated from UMHB in 1985.

I was hoping to be at the McMurry vs UHMB game on Saturday, but it looks like schedules, etc... are going to keep us in Central Louisiana. I will be viewing the game via the Internet. Looking forward to UMHB playing some classic CRU ball - stingy defense, rugged ground game and stellar special teams. Mix in a few well timed passes and hopefully UMHB will CRUise onto the 3rd round.

Hope everyone has a meaningful Thanksgiving.

Tough Game - No Injuries   We'll see you out the other side.

Maybe not new to you, but I laughed

QuoteAn 80-year-old Texas rancher goes to the Mayo clinic in Rochester for a check-up.

The doctor is amazed at what good shape the guy is in and asks, 'How do you stay in such great physical condition?'

'I'm from Texas and in my spare time I like to hunt and fish' says the old guy, 'and that's why I'm In such good shape. I'm up well before daylight riding herd and mending fences and when I'm not doing that,
I'm out hunting or fishing. In the evening, I have a beer and all is well.'

'Well' says the doctor, 'I'm sure that helps, but there's got to be more to it. How old was your father when he died?'

'Who said my father's dead?'

The doctor is amazed. 'You mean you're 80 years old and your father's still alive? How old is he?'

'He's 100 years old,' says the old Texan. 'In fact he worked with and hunted with me this morning, and then we went to the topless bar for a while and had some beer and that's why he's still alive. He's a Texas
rancher and he's a hunter and fisherman too.'

'Well,' the doctor says, 'that's great, but I'm sure there's more to it than that. How about your father's father? How old was he when he died?'

'Who said my Grandpa's dead?'

Stunned, the doctor asks, 'you mean you're 80 years old and your grandfather's' still alive?'

'He's 118 years old,' says the man.

The doctor is getting frustrated at this point, 'So, I guess he went hunting with you this morning too?'

'No, Grandpa couldn't go this morning because he's getting married today.'

At this point the doctor is close to losing it. 'Getting married!! Why would a 118 year-old guy want to get married?'

'Who said he wanted to?'

Just listened to the podcast and the McM/UMHB game gets some love.

I would like to state for the record that this Crusader fan has been banging the drum for McM as a good team since last season and certainly think that the week 3 game said more about McMs strength than UMHBs relative weakness. That said, I do think that the lightening storm and the 5 minute half time benefited McM because it allowed adjustments by McM and broke the momentum UMHB had. Still it was a fantastic game and I'm pretty sure this weeks will be as well.

Concerning this weeks game, I'll get the convo started, I think whether or not Mullin plays has a huge impact on the game. I've watched Warren play since he was the QB @ Abilene High and I don't think he will have the ability to get away from UMHBs D and make something happen in the way that Mullin does. If Warren starts and gives UMHB a statue to attack McM won't score many points. If Mullin plays and isn't too hampered by the bum knee, this game will be very exciting.

So is it a torn meniscus as they said?

Also, which is the better QB, Mullin or Harris from LC? Harris was a dynamic player that really worked us over, so I think our team learned a lot from that.

Also, I don't think UMHB played its best game as our O was not what it is now. Obviously, what we do and what McMurry does won't be surprised by anything as we are very familiar with each other.

I expect Coach Mumme to come out and try to pour it down our throats, as I expect Coach Fred wants to send McMurry packing with a big loss too. Nothing like two teams with a lot of history, a lot of knowledge about the other team, and, in my opinion, some bad blood between the two. Should be a great game.
The Article on D3football says its a partially torn cartilage and lcl and that Mullins is doubtful. As for who is better? I think Mullin is the better qb, especially if he has good protection. The thing that makes him tricky is that he's quick and very good at creating on the move. That said if the D can make him move around a lot, he is prone to throwing a pick or two. If Warren is in the game, the D will not have to work to contain him, because he's not as mobile as Mullin, but he can throw the ball pretty well and quickly.

The real improvement that I've seen over the past few years of watching McM is in the defense. They have some very good DBs  and their d-line has greatly improved. I don't think they'll be able to stop the run our of the I,so as long as LB is careful with the ball when he passes it should be an interesting game.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
