Bad news for the ASC but It probably makes a lot of sense for the scac to now target HSU to get to 5 football programs, 9 overall (7 total in texas). Out of the 4 that don't play football in the scac, i could see dallas cc, and centenary all consider adding football programs, so it wouldn't be that unrealistic for the scac to have 7 programs someday. Also, 9 really isn't good overall number, so the scac could jump to 10 with ctx, who also might add a football program. I also like ozarks to get some school's outside of texas with a goal of jumping back to 12 total and having 2 divisions in the new scac. If all this went down, the asc would still be around with 9 members i think and 6 football, so they would need to expand and or have a school start a football program.

To go along with Ralph's post about UT-Tyler, if UTD were to add football I think they could become quite good with all of the talent in the DFW area.

A fictious dramatization in an alternate universe...

SCENE:  Executive Session of the SCAC Presidents
TIME:    Summer 2013.
IN ATTENDANCE:  Trinity, Austin, Southwestern, TLU, Schreiner, UDallas, Centenary, Colorado.
AGENDA:  Football

Who's adding football?  Schreiner, UDallas and Centenary, but only if the conference does not invite HSU.

CTX may be invited to the conference if it wishes to add football, too.

Coilorado College is on its way to the Rocky Mountain AC as a non-football member.

Not to mention the huge cost differential ...

But academc requirements at UTD are roughly as tough as Trinity...

Question from an outsider.  Why would HSU be compelled to leave the ASC in the 1st place?  If UMHB wasn't dominating the top of the conference would HSU leaving even come up in this conversation?

I was wondering the same thing.  Plus, in some other sports, specifically soccer and possibly others, I'm not sure HSU would want to be in the same conference with Trinity.  But then again, I'm a real noobie at this.

HSU is doing really well in D-III.  I have heard no rumors that they want to move to D-II.

HSU holds it own in Directors' Cup competition vis-a-vis UMHB.

Compelled?  No.

Interested?  Possibly, but only if the HSU braintrust saw advantages in being associated with the nSCAC instead of the ASC.

I don't think the question of being 'dominated' in one sport (maybe two if you include women's golf) would be a primary factor.   In any case it's hard to see HSU wanting to go to a conference where there's currently no auto bid in football.

news headline from today regarding UMHBs new stadium: http://news.umhb.edu/article/mclane-family-makes-largest-gift-umhb-history-football-stadium?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=facebook . thee amount was not released, but rest assured it was big. (I think someone donated 5 million for the new school of nursing).
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I was impressed by the amount of new construction on campus when I was there for the two Trinity playoff basketball games this weekend.  Apparently they're getting a good influx of money from a number of donors.

Buck is a great guy!  I think he will do well there!
