My impression is that LiDarrell Bailey is playing like a senior QB!

As it stands right now I'll be in SA next week to see the Cru and go to Sea World (importance is flipped for my wife but if not for the game there is not trip this week). I am interested in TUs bounce back. Getting shelled by SRSU has to be PTSD inducing. I'm also curious about the UMHB SRSU game in 2 weeks. We'll know then if they've risen up the ASC ladder.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Not sure what to make of Sul Ross spanking Trinity. Sully has played  Eatern NM for the past three years and have lost by 11, 3 and 7 so their is no history that shows this past week's result. So I guess the questions boil down to
1)   Is Sully that much improved?
2)   Is Trinity not as good as we thought?
3)   Was this game a fluke result of the alignments of the stars and planets? :-)

I guess we will know more after this week but this was a huge surprise for me!
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

I plan on being in SA as well. Should be a great game.

UMHB feels like a fresh team to me. LB is playing under control. The Wesley game was HUGE for him, I know, obvious statement, but to post two weeks without an INT and one of those weeks being against Wesley?? That is very big.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Congrats to the Cru for a great win against a very good team.  I would expect both teams to make it deep into the playoffs (unless the brackets have them play early).  I'm sure they will continue to rock and roll as the season goes on.  Good luck the rest of the way.

Geographically, I expect them in the South Regional Finals (round of 8).

I'm very surprised that Sul Ross received no points this week in the poll! I guess voters want to see how they play against UMHB before they decide that the Lobos are indeed legitimate.

Sul Ross is still 1-2. It's a big win, and both losses were up a division, but at the end of the day it's hard to put a 1-2 team with little to no reputation in a top 25 based on 1 win.

I'm not saying that SRSU should be in the Top 25, but this is a very lazy description of their performance so far. SRSU is a D-3 School and as a D-3 school they are a 1-0 with a beat down of a previously ranked Top 10. That's all that matters for D-3 playoffs and really should be all that matters on these boards (and in our polls). We should not penalize them for doing whatever is necessary to get games on the calendar. I understand that pollsters have to recognize that SRSU did play 2 games against D-2 schools and try and judge their talent based on those games but I believe SRSU handled themselves quite well in those performances. Losing to one D-2 school by 10 points and another by a feild goal (in back-to-back weeks with one of those games on the road) is almost more impressive to me than the way they handled Trinity.

umhb2001

Here are the stats that worry me. We must get better here. With the game close and two posessions, we had a 3 play drive for 8 yards and 6 plays for 19 yards.

UMHB  4th  UMHB23  08:21  KO  UMHB31  06:08  PUNT  3-8  2:13
UMHB  4th  UMHB33  03:38  PUNT  WES48  00:15  PUNT  6-19  3:23

For our team, a running team by trade, to not be able to control the ball more, we've got to get better at that. Now I believe that Darius Wilson was injured. Does anyone have information on this?

Couldn't agree more with you. Although Trinity had only played two other games themselves, in each of those games they had held their opponents to 7 points and around 200 yards each time. Sul Ross put up 655 yards of offense and tacked on the most points Trinity has allowed since 1949. That's absolutely ridiculous. They definitely should have received points this week IMO

To me this seems to be a case of the pollsters thinking Trinity wasn't as good as they were ranked and having a wait and see attitude with SRS. Hard to blame them for not jumping on the SRS bandwagon yet considering they haven't won over 5 games in a season in the D3football.com era. They will have their chance though with the Cru coming to town, a win against them and they will get their votes.

I know that this is all conjecture and we'll have facts in two weeks, but you just said SRSU will get votes when they beat UMHB. How close do they have to play UMHB to get votes? If they lose by 7 are they a top 10 team? If they lose by 14 do they make the top 25? If they lose by 21 do they receive votes?

wesleydad

umhb2001, your concern is warranted.  Over most of the game they were unable to mount much of a consistant running game.  It is what kept the game close.  Now you have to credit Wesley's defense for some of that, but the Cru was in 3rd down situations an aweful lot in this game.  Bailey made the difference on 2 plays that turned negative plays, both called pass plays into scrambles for a td.  Wilson was not in the game at the time of the series you show, he was injured on a great run on his part when he was tackled just short of the goal line.  These teams are very close, but I think Wesley has more upside than UMHB does from what I saw Saturday.

I would point out that Trinity's defense had some holes last year - at least based on the playoff game ... the SCAC may have had some solid teams, but remember McMurry defeated Trinity without their all-American QB last year. The drop off from starter to second string for McMurry's quarterback was considerable, and they were still able to move the ball fairly well.
