I just got home from Sherman, saw the UMHB score and went directly to the stats.  Glad to see it was 42-7 in the 4th before TLU started scoring their last 4 TDs.   It looks like a close first half and then UMHB ran away with it and played their subs in the 4th.  That being said, I have a lot of respect for the TLU program since Coach Padron took over.  He was a great HS coach and now has TLU playing hard till the end.    He and his staff are slowly forging a competitive team and I know they will be tough in the SCAC (if it forms again!)

This was a great game from start to finish.

UMHB came out strong and played well in the first. LB was throwing the ball well, only had a couple of passes not find their target, but the receivers were having a hard time handling the ball in the 2nd. I joked with my brother that they may bring out the ice bath this week in practice and make the receivers stick their hands in there a bit and then practice catching balls. They must have done this before the third because they came out hot in the second half. The subs were cold coming into the game, so TLU was able to get a lot of points in the fourth, but the second string was able to get it under control and finish out the night strong.

Big game next week!

Just took a quick look at the drive charts for each game.  Obviously the starters played the whole game against Wesley but the others are quite different.

In UMHB's first game against Kean (who had already played one game)  the subs played the whole 4th quarter in a 34-7 win and Kean's only score was on a kick off return.
Against Trinity the subs played all of the 3rd and 4th quarters in a 49-28 win and Trinity scored 3 of their 4 touchdowns against the subs.
Against Sul Ross, the subs entered after one series in the 3rd quarter and Sully scored one TD in the 4th Q.
Against TLU, the subs entered in the 4th quarter and scored 3 of their 4 touchdown in the 4th.

What great game experience for these guys and we all know that will help in the rest of this season and the next!  I think it is great the coaches are doing this!

Also of note is while while Darius Wilson has not played the last three games, the Cru is averaging 360 yds/game rushing.  I hope he is back soon and the injury is not serious!
I think its great that the Cru is putting up enough points early to let the reserves play so much. I also hope Wilson returns soon, but I'm glad Elijah Hudson is getting the reps he is. Just a sophomore and he runs like a beast.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Any word on when Wilson will return for UMHB?

The 1-2 punch of him and Hudson would be nearly unstoppable.

I was really impressed with UMHB yesterday, I have to say the coaching staff has done amazing things over the recent years, but I believe this team is something special and rightfully deserves to be #1. Just my opinion of course. Again, good game yesterday and good luck the rest of the season.

I told one of the HSU coaches today that I think this is the best Cru team I've seen. If the reserves catch up, I think this will be a special year. That said the post-game article in the temple paper suggests that Coach Fred was not happy with the 4th qtr

That article also said that Bailey had his most sporadic game throwing this season. He did miss on a couple of throws but his receivers didn't help much. They finally got it together.

LC scratched out a tough 29 - 17 win over ETBU. It wasn't real pretty, but a win is a win.

Really great to see them finish out the game. For them to be the team to force the game deciding turnover. Now I can not tell you how excited I am for saturday now. UMHB vs LC is probably for the ASC Conference Championship. Any UMHB fans making the trip down to Pineville this weekend?

TxFight

ETBU did a great job of giving themselves a chance to win considering how blahh they had played to that point.  They were constantly starting and keeping themselves backed up on their own goal line.  Penalties and a costly turnover were the difference in the ball game.  Would really have liked for ETBU to take a shot right after they had scored to make it 22-17 and forced a 3 and out and a shanked punt.  Instead ETBU ran the ball twice and lost yardage and put themselves in 3rd and long which LC was able to just pin their ears back and come after the QB.  Gotta give credit to the LC offense for making plays when they needed and the LC defense for keeping constant pressure on the QB.

I've heard nothing, but seeing how Carpenter when down this week, looks like it may not be as bad as once thought, I'd say if he can be back this week, he'll be back. This is a big game at LC. They are tough! Our guys will have to bring it.

I agree. This UMHB team has a lot of potential to make some noise in the playoffs, but they will need all the help they can get if they're going to earn a showdown with Mount Union, and certainly if they're going to take them down. Wilson would be a huge boost.

Iwas at Salem when UMHB played the last time and they are looking very good to me--Olinemom.

Saw that LC's record is 4-1, with the only loss coming to wesley. Is the anyone out there that has seen both them and UMHB? How does the match up look. Would be nice to get two ASC teams in the playoffs again. Go ASC!

As much as I would love to see two ASC teams in the playoffs for that to happen LC would probably have to beat UMHB which I am obviously not for. With 2 losses, even "good" losses, the odds would be long for them to make the playoffs.

Saying that LC is going to be playing for the lives in Pineville so its going to be a tough game to say the least.

There are a couple discussions of topics related to this mentioning LC in the Pool B and Pool C area of General football, also in the South Region Fan Pool. I think LC will have a hard time getting in with 2 losses unless Birmingham Southern loses again. Assuming Wesley, B-SC, and LC win out, I'd envision Wesley getting the "B", B-SC getting a "C", and LC being left on the table with an extra loss. LC and B-SC both lost to Wesley, in tight games. B-SC did it on the road, LC at home. If it was me putting teams forward, I'd have a hard time putting an 8-2 LC under those circumstances ahead of a 9-1 B-SC. Regionally Ranked Opponents will also come in to play, and I'd assume LC will be 0-2 with B-SC 1-1 or possibly 2-1 depending on Millsaps, Huntingdon and Trinity continuing to play well. Sadly, because I think LC is probably a top 20 team in the nation, they are probably going to lack that signature win that really boosts Pool C chances.

Of course, beat UMHB and LC gets in and so does UMHB (provided both win out). If you really want two ASC teams in the playoff, that's the most likely way of doing it.

PurpleisBOLD98

Well said jknezek. Looks like a tough spot to be in. The Cru better be ready to fight for a win. Being purple and gold all they way thru can't say that I hope LC wins. Maybe a little luck with some other teams and we can both get there. Hope to see a great game. Good luck to both teams.
Go CRU!

Article in today's paper said that Darius should be able to play Saturday. I also saw him at the gym and he looks ready to go!
