UMHB looks like a team on a mission. Good luck next week against Wesley. Both programs are some the best in D III football and beating a quality team twice in one season wont be easy. I'm making the trip down to Belton with the family for this one!

Hope they just keep the clock running.   35-0 UMHB, Franklin inserts new QB who throws another pick on his first play, two plays later it's 42-0 UMHB.

What a crying shame that the Cru will have to go to Alliance next week.   They can still win, but it would be nice to see the Raiders travel for a change.  How many years has it been since they've had to play a road playoff game?

Not next week.  UMHB still has to play the winner of Wesley vs. Cortland State.

Been a long time since MU played on the road in the playoffs.  Sometime in the 90s.

LaCrosse?

I think so.  If Ric still had his site I would have found it already...  ;)

EDIT:  You were correct.  MU went to WLAX in 1996 and won 39-21.

Since 1993 Mount has lost 11 football games.  5 in Salem, 1 in Albion, and 5 at Mount Union.  This might lead one to believe it best to meet the Raiders in Alliance or Salem.

Again, no disrespect, but who have y'all played? I know the SOS wasn't that great this year, so really I'm wondering how that schedule might look if you were playing Linfield, Wesley, UW-Oshkosh, St. Thomas, or others during the year. I think that has a lot to say about it, but  y'all have certainly earned your wins, your record, and your place in D3.

I completely respect MHB as an opponent and honestly believe their on the cusp of becoming the next Whitewater with the un-tapped HS talent in Texas and the new facilities you're building, but to say that Mount wins because they don't play anyone is just crazy.

This opinion comes up so often I have the following saved on my laptop.  Happy reading.

Writing off the OAC simply because Mount has consistently won the conference is an overly simplistic and incorrect view.  Here's a brief synopsis of the last 20 years of Mount results in terms of toughest/closest games that season and what conference that team was from.   If you take the time to read it, you'll see that the OAC has often provided the toughest test for Mount.  Not always, but the conference has often put up as tough a fight as the best playoff teams from around the nation.

Impressive data HScoach. I for one, and I don't believe umhb2001 was, would not try to deminish the overall success of Mount Union and the OAC. However if playoff results from previous years are going to influence future years no one is ever likely to catch Mount Union. And as far as this year goes if you use the criteria that the NCAA uses UMHB had a stronger SOS and beat more regionally ranked opponent.

Either way right it doesn't matter as we both have games next weekend against strong opponents. Safe travels to anyone traveling to those games and I hope for good games and no injuries.

The Cru looked mighty sharp today, especially in the first half. I'm looking forward to making another trip to Central Texas in order to be present for the quarterfinal match-up with Wesley.

The only time I ever watched the Dr. Phil show he said something I try to keep in mind ... whenever you use the word "but" in a conversation it completely negates anything you said before. I definitely sensed that here.

HS Coach's post does show that Mt has had some tougher games in the OAC.
It's also fair and contextual to point out the playoff draws Mt has had in recent years.  Not taking anything away from Mt because you can only play the teams the committee sends your way-and I know it's a geography issue, but it is the reality.
Take a look at the playoff teams that many from the west/south (or those not named Mt) have had to play in order to get a shot at the Stagg, and compare them to the teams Mt has played.  For the most part, Mt's toughest playoff opponent comes only in the semis.
Compare that to what many top teams have faced in the last few years.  Linfield already has played two of the toughest teams in the playoffs and has their third coming up.
Remember, when you're playing tough teams, the starters don't get the rest.  When the starters are in the entire game, there simply is a greater chance for injury and fatigue.

HS Coach's post does show that Mt has had some tougher games in the OAC.

Either way, Mount Union has always had the chops to deal with teams going to Alliance and you cannot take that away from them.  They are just tough on both sides of the ball.  It could be a disadvantage for them to deal with powder-puff opponents prior to a real test, but I haven't seen it yet.   It is up to the other teams to knock them off that semifinal pedestal they stand on.

None of this talk really matters, after the fact.  What really matters is when the two teams line up against each other on Saturday and get after it!  Every Saturday is a new day and a new opportunity to prove themselves.  May each team play their best and stay healthy!  BUT, GO CRU !!!

I agree entirely that it could be a disadvantage that Mt plays a less challenging playoff schedule. Heck I'm sure the players and fans would love tougher competition.
The point remains the same though in that due to the geography issue and Mt's high regard, they don't get tested the same as many other programs have.  As such, there is some truth that supports the feeling that "Mt doesn't play anybody"- at least in the first 2-3 rounds of the playoffs.

We need a "designated player" to fill in the hole of "Representative of Texas" now that Roocru will be on inactive reserve out in the side blue /green sea fishing for big fish with Cru at his side.  This is a serious deficiency on the Stone Station crew. I'm trying to get this taken care of ASAP.

Big weekend for me here in Texas in 2+ weeks. I am counting on following the game on the internet if it is not on a cable channel that is in my package.

umhb2001

Great podcast today. Love these days when all games are covered in depth.

I know I'm a homer, but I really think this UMHB team is different. Yes we have to run the ball, and we will. But I firmly believe we can throw with anyone. I'm excited to see what we can do this week.

Bailey has been very accurate, poised, and under control. He can do this.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I enjoyed the podcast, too; actually my wife even listened!!!
Linfield may have a tough game of it, besides UMHB.
I agree that LaDarrell is ready and more than able to play, not just steady, but well.  Hopefully all our players will be well rested, injury free (or well enough) and inspired to take out Wesley this time when it really counts.  We do seem to be much more balanced than in past years.  Go Cru!
