QuoteBest post of the year?

Nice to have football season here, Ralph.

Pretty daunting view from the visitor side.

I hope the stadium is not as sterile as Chapman's where a fan cannot get within 30 yards of the field.

Word going around the school is there will be a Fireworks display after the UMHB v Wesley game.

Cant wait for Sept 21st!

GO Cru!

Probably will follow plenty of fireworks on the field ...   ;)

....what kind of offense does Hardin-Simmons run?

FYI

Nate Menkin (former UMHB lineman) was originally cut by the Houston Texans to get down to the 53 man roster.  The next week two linemen got injured and he was added back to the Texan practice squad.

after last week? One that doesn't throw very far down field!  ;D
But seriously, they would like to run the same offense they ran last year, which isn't to different from what they have been running as long as I've followed the program. The QB may not have the passing skills to do that though. They have a few good RBs so you can expect to get a good dose of run with a mix of short passes (used to throw a lot of bubble screens and quick outs) and a shot down field every now and again.
If you've watched any ASC football other than UMHB, you can see the impact of the 7 on 7 competitions held throughout the players high school careers. The skill positions are usually pretty good. It'll be interesting to see what HSU does on defense and Special teams because that is where the real trouble lies. If the Cats run effectively this game could be a lot of fun to watch.

UMHB's stadium makes one wonder if the plan in the future is to go DII......
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

I really seriously doubt it.  In the D-3 model, you have so many student-athletes who are paying to come.  D-2 is a paradigm shift in the philosophy of intercollegiate athletics.

Toby, our friend Bluenote was AT the HSU - Willamette game.

I'll speak with his nurse about him possibly tonguing his meds.

i watched some of it on the web and it looked nothing like what I was told the team would look like by a coach.  Guess we'll see if they get any closer to the coaches view in a few hours

What is wrong with HSU? Two weeks in a row they've been absolutely demolished on defense. Have they taken the only athletes they recruited and put them offense and stuck what was left on the other side of the ball? Sewanee gave Willamette a heck of a game today, something HSU couldn't do for even 15 minutes last week.

Really shocking and I'm really starting to wonder if that is a program in for a tough year. It seems to me the ASC, outside UMHB, might be in a really down year. I'm planning to be at Huntingdon next week to put eyes on LC and I'm very interested in how they look against a DIII.

HSUs Defense isn't good. The line play wasn't horrible as far as getting into position to make plays, but their tackling was horrible. The O line of Linfield for the most part dominated HSUs Dline. HSUs corners are undersized (to put it nicely) and couldn't cover anything. They had a safety that played ok but 1 of 11 won't get it done. Some of the issue is probably growing pains with the change in philosophy that came with Coach Burleson, some of it is losing the recruiting battle. UMHBs Elijah Hudson Sr RB and Baylor Mullins FR Cru Back are both from towns just outside Abilene as are a number of athletes in other UMHB programs. If you compare UMHBs Roster to HSUs, there are just as many kids from the 60 miles around abilene at UMHB as there are at HSU. Conversely, more than 40 kids on the UMHB roster are from within a 60 miles of UMHB and more than 60 from within 100 miles. WHen I think of the stellar HSU teams from when I first moved to Abilene, I think of names like Jordan Neal and Will Gallusha, local kids that stayed in town to play. Not much of that anymore.

The LC defense has dominated in its first two games, which is uncharacteristic of the Wildcats during the Dennis Dunn era. The real test of the defense will come this Saturday when LC travels to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on Huntingdon.

The Wildcat offense struggled in Saturday's win over Webber International, but true freshman QB Easton Melancon showed flashes of brilliance. He made a few rookie mistakes, but he seems to be emerging as the go-to-guy for LC and seems likely to lead the Cats over the next four years. He throws a good ball with velocity and pin point accuracy. Barring injuries, this young man could really be something special.

Looking forward to the trip west next weekend for the inaugural game in The CRUthedral.

Zach Anderson played QB in the second half against Kean. If I understood the announcers correctly, he is third on the depth chart. Anderson directed The CRU offense like a veteran and was effecient in the passing game. Also, please correct if I'm wrong, I thought I heard that Jake Sims was number two and that Brian Gallagher was projected to be the starter at the beginning of the season prior to being injured. Also, Sims was hurt late in the first half against Kean.

If all the aforementioned is true, UMHB seems to have good depth at QB. I hope Gallagher and Sims both get healthy and can play during their senior season. That said, I think The CRU offense is in good hands with Anderson at the helm.

Anyone with more information, please enlighten me. Inquiring minds would like to know. : )
