i think part of Saturday was a let down from the emotion of last week, some was people believing their press, some was pro am weather related some was a need for maturity. The thing that gets me about the game was the personal fouls on 3rd and 4th downs that extended drives so they could score. Even as bad as they played this could have been a 70 pt game. Carpenter showed he is a good second option at RB. Anderson played like a cocky sophomore. Made some stupid mistakes and did some stuff well. I think he'll be fine and by the end of season will be in good shape for he playoffs ( assuming he doesn't p/o the coaches and get benched for doing something stupid). The first 4 weeks have all had games that started slow with ball handling issues early. That needs to stop, but I have a feeling TU will catch the burn from this weeks practices on Saturday night.

Toby,

What was more surprising to you: The Personal Fouls UMHB had (I've never seen them get so many), The OLine being harrassed all night (I've never seen our guys struggle like that), or the Dline giving up so many yards rushing?

All of these let to an uncharacteristic night for the Cru.

Carpenter DID do a great job. He has some quick, explosive moves in the beginning. I wouldn't necessarily call him super fast, but he is quick at the get go, and he did a nice job out of the backfield catching balls. He was the leading receiver from what I saw.

Hudson: I did see that he was available if needed, but they were looking to only use Carpenter so that Hudson could be available against Trinity at full strength.

I appreciate your takes Toby and 2001, especially regarding the penalties. This week of practice should be interesting to say the least, likely very "attention getting." If UMHB plays to its potential, I think The CRU should take care of Trinity and cruise through the conference schedule.

I will again watch Saturday's game via the UMHB video feed. This past Saturday was well done, until buffering - likely due to my provider - sent me to audio only. I am looking forward to another trip to The Cruthedral, so I am counting the days until homecoming.

for me it was the penalties and I disciplined play. The weather explains some of the online issues for me and the d was actually playing a pretty good game. There was some bad tackling and some over aggressiveness, but I can live with the over aggressiveness. I can't help but think that the amount of time they spent on the field had to have an effect, and I think there was some cockiness on display as well.

When the Cru D is on, I don't think anyone can challenge them, and they will only get faster and better as the season continues.

The focal point is QB. Anderson has to understand his place, understand what he can do, and understand what not to do. I think he can be an exceptional player, but his head has got to be in it.

I haven't read much about Michael Carpenter, but I thought he had a good game and got stronger as the game went on.  Hudson will need some relief at times.  What is the word on Hudson's injury?

From what I understand, and you might listen to the Coach's show tonight as he might address it, but he could have gone Saturday. He was in full pads, but they wanted him to be ready for Trinity. I also know that Coach Fred has stated before at the radio show that getting Carpenter involved was something they were eager to do. I see why. This was a good showing. I believe Hudson will be back Saturday baring a setback.

Game day today. Cru gonna have to step up and get it going I think or else they'll be in a fight.

I really hope and expect that the DLine will play much better today and hold Trinity's run game. I also look for our Oline to be more effective. The double dose of Carpenter and Hudson will be great to watch.

HSU is losing to MC 35-42. MC has the ball deep in HSU territory

With Hudson and Diaz both missing the Trinity game, it sounds as if the bye week is coming at a good time for UMHB. Hopefully The CRU  can get healthy, finish out the conference schedule and then be ready for deep playoff run.

@d3jason

What's going on with Hardin-Simmons? Is McMurry's move to D-II and ACU to I-FCS pulling players away from the the Cowboys?

It means nothing at this point but there was an interesting blurb in the Temple paper today about the the future of the ASC and the SCAC. It mentioned that UMHB will be calling every D3 school in the country this week in an effort to find 2 games in 14 and 3 in 15, however a much easier solution would be for the for the ASC and the SCAC to combine, which is obviously not something we have not mentioned in the past. I thought this was interesting because Coach Pete is quoted at saying its crazy we have 2 conferences and that he had talked to Coach Mohr of Trinity who agreed and was in favor of combining them to save on cost.

Especially with MC leaving. A 10 team conference would be great because it makes for only one OOC. Given the geographic orphan status of those teams, that limits the scheduling and expense burden. Generally I'm not in favor of 10 team leagues because 1 OOC doesn't allow for much SOS for the conference, but in this case it would be a blessing. I guess it leaves La Col as the odd team out geographically, but I have to believe La Col is closer to some of the other teams than SRSU...

Chicago and WashU are going to be affiliates of the SAA, not SCAC.
MY bad!  Huge brain burp!
I shall delete that driveling post to avoid any confusion!

ARGGHHH!

Yep.  I guess it depends how bad that the SCAC wants the gain theoretical access to a Pool A bid.

If UT-Tyler adds football, then the ASC has its Pool A bid again.  A vote on football by the students (which will raise the fees) is the ostensible requirement to adding football at this time.  Community support and facilities seem to be other factors that can be addressed relatively easily.
