Size we can handle.  Fisher doesn't really get beat up and shoved around.  John Carroll definitely applied pressure on our offensive line in a way that we hadn't seen this year.  But we adjusted on the fly by going to a 4 WR set and that effectively neutralized their swarming defense.

Speed on the other hand...speed kills.  We've never been the fastest team out there.  Garçon and Shorts from Mount Union, and the WR with the strange last name from St. Thomas all were on a different level than what we could match.  I suppose we should expect another round of that.  Luckily our offense is more dynamic and has a much higher ceiling than the last time we reached the quarterfinals in 2011.  Our running back was actually playing QB that year.  Fenti, the guy who starts now and who was supposed to start that year, broke his hand at the beginning of the season.

I really like Hudson at running back. Hoping to pull a rabbit out of a hat at Whitewater next week so a can meet up.

Cute Ralph, it's booby, not Bobby.

We have seen a few 4WR offenses.  In fact, that is what every other offense in the ASC does primarily.  Pat has called us "the little Big 12" because of all the wide open offenses in our conference. That is why the rest of the league really has no favorites except maybe Louisiana College.  Any of the other teams can outscore  another any given week.

Fisher is not a team that likes to run outside that much, occasionally they'll do so but just to keep defenses honest. For the most part it's spread teams out in 3/4 WR sets and run inside zone plays.

The 4 WR set Boobs was referring to was not in any way a traditional 4 WR set. Vs JCU Fisher made an adjustment during the game and stacked two WRs outside the numbers. It was honestly almost laughable as to how far wide the 4 WRs were. JCU left 5/6 in the box with two high safeties vs that look and Fisher just chewed them up on the ground up the middle.

Fisher is plenty used to seeing the top teams come playoff time. So I don't think anything UMHB had will shock Fisher at all, it's just will Fisher be able to slow them down or not?

I picked UMHB to win it all so I don't think they will but Fisher isn't going to come out talking smack about how they've seen teams like UMHB all year! I am very excited to see the Cru for the first time this SatErday!

this could be a fun game to watch then. I love strength vs strength match ups. UMHB doesn't stack the box. They rely on their front 4 and the speed of the rest of the d. There's a lot of speed in the ASC and the DBs from UMHB are used to covering that speed spread out and stacked in all sorts of ways. Teams that have been successful this year have had luck passing to he RB out of the backfield. LC scored a long TD pass by hitting the RB down the seam. If SJF can do that this could be a close game, worth of the trip down. If not checking out UMHBs new digs and meeting some of us board posters for BBq before you leave town is also a great reason to come to Belton.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Thinking 41-24 UMHB...

Fisher keeps it close but the Cru pull away in the 4th...

If Fisher wins this game it's because Fenti hits a bunch of jump balls to Nigolian over the smaller UMHB DBs...

Those smaller defensive backs are quick and can jump, too!  Thanks CRU for a solid performance after Rowan's first set of downs!!

+1!   :)   :)   ;)  Welcome to the ASC boards.

IMHO, just an accurate assessment on Sunday before the game on Saturday.

For many years, the University Interscholastic League, UIL,(the primary controlling body of high school athletics in Texas) has prohibited and impeded the development of non-scholastic athletics, having the effect of keeping a community's talent in the (pubic) school system to be coached by professional (full-time) coaches thru the local secondary schools.  There have been some outside organizations which have influenced hoops, baseball and soccer, but it was not until the development of 7-on-7 about 15 years ago that "year-round" football really became a significant force.  "7-on-7' teams were able to play "year round" outside the framework of the UIL.  That is why there is so much talent in the QB's and WR's in Texas.  Shucks, "everybody" comes to Texas for their QB and WR talent.

What has set UMHB apart from the rest of the ASC for the last 10-12 years is their ability to run.  They (UMHB) have been the ones to get the great linemen, consistently.  The biggest shortage of players that we have in Texas is big linemen.  That is the advantage that schools in NY, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin have over us in Texas.  I know that UMHB has seen the 4-5 WR offense and 3-3-5 defense when Head Coach Hal Mumme (Air Raid offense) and Defensive Coordinator Joe Lee Dunn (the "pioneer" of the 3-3-5) were at McMurry.

(Interesting side note from the Auburn Alabama game yesterday...how did Auburn offset the size and physicality of the Alabama offensive line?  They went 10-deep and never let the bigger Alabama players wear them down.)

Talking about team speed...I remember in 2004 when we went to W&J. They talked a lot of trash during warm ups. From the opening kick off the difference in team speed was unimaginable. They might of had 1 guy that could run with us. Our full back broke long runs on their defense. Lol They were not happy about that. UMHB has speed at every position...(minus a few of the hogs on the o-line). Pretty much anyone who touches the ball can go house with an opening. The defense is aggressive, fast, and physical. DB's are on an island a lot but hold their own. Getting to the edge on our defense is very rare. QB better throw fast, be mobile, or tough...cause the d-line will run circles around most o-lines. Offense is run run run...a little less power running than when I played but still heavy run. Which opens up the play action pass a lot. Good luck to y'all and safe travels. Hoping the video feed is strong again.
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.
