Today's TDT Sports article by Eric Drennan states that the Cru "have to find the guys that can help us beat Mount Union and Whitewater," according to Coach Fred. I agree, but I also feel we had the guys to get that done this year and last year. We had them both years, but we couldn't close the deal. We should be there this year. But, we rebuild again, use the stadium to hopefully recruit some good players, and make another run. I believe we can and want to see it happen so badly.

Well said, umhb2001, well said (+k). I think we have the players right now. That said, I believe more are on the way that are of the same caliber and will keep The CRU in the national championship conversation for years to come. It is only a matter of time -- sooner rather than later -- before UMHB brings home the Walnut and Bronze.

Just wanted to say it was great to meet CouchCru4life and couchcru11 and all their tailgating friends. You guys are great. I love your passionate support of The CRU. And the grill -- superb! My advice, get it road-ready for a cross country trip to Salem next year!

Doesn't have the players to get over the hump?  FG in the last minutes of the semi-final when down by 4?   Sounds like Coach Fred needs to look in the mirror before he goes out recruiting.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I am sure Coach Fred will do some self-evaluation but either way in his defense, he has used that wording since the start of the program to show what the goal of the program is. At first it was to get the recruits that could beat Trinity and HSU, then it turned to programs like Wesley, and the last few years it has been UW-W and Mount Union. Coach has never been afraid to say that certain losses, or even not good enough wins, have been the fault of the coaches not preparing the players so I am sure he will have long discussions with his staff and everyone associated with the program about how they can get better.

Re-watched the end of the game last night on WatchESPN. A couple things stuck out.

First, we went from the 20 to the 4 on all run plays with Gallagher in the game. We get inside the 5 and suddenly we change QB's and formation? OLine used to Gallagher, gets a new voice and call style, false starts us back to the 8 or 9, then we get back to the 4 by running, then pass on 3 and goal?

Secondly, Seems logical to me that you ride the horse, or horses, that got you there. The RB's were pounding the rock and we were moving with Gallagher in there. Should have stayed with them, stayed with the formation, run it up the gut, and get it done. No clue why we changed it up right in the middle of a great streak of plays.

Oh well. "Better luck next year." "We'll be back."

I thought the 3rd down passing play call was brilliant....it just wasn't executed.

I agree. If it is executed, we probably aren't talking about it.

I'm just curious to the change of formation and QB at the 3 yard line. New caller, new formation, loud part of the stadium...seems we should have stayed with what got us there. They were on their heels.

I have to admit, and please I am not piling on, I agree with your observation and I could not believe it when watching the game.  Your rushing game was absolutely gashing us, not every single play, but on that drive, UMHB was methodically marching down the field picking up first downs.   I did not understand the change in formation at that time and the only thing I can think is that by changing formations is that they were setting up the 3rd down call.

Obviously kicking the field goal and that decision overshadowed the change on the prior 3 plays, but I agree with what you are saying.

Looks like the real national championship was played last week in Belton. UMHB should be ranked #2 in the final poll.   ;D

I agree, but Toby said it (+k) , UMHB missed the opportunity. Next year will be a new story and, hopefully, a trip to Salem.

Looks like we will finish number 2 in the final poll again. After seeing this score last weeks game hurts that much more.
