timtlu,

Your first "nugget" is lacking some information. I live in Pineville. LC's QB told the local newspaper that while he did initially call for the ball to be spiked, he realized it was 4th down and was indeed calling a a play when the coach ran onto the field. Who knows how effective a play would have been given all the confusion. It would have been interesting had they had the opportunity to run a play. It did not happen and TLU escaped with a win.

I stand by my assessment that LC and TLU are evenly matched.

It is my opinion that in many phases of the game LC played better against UMHB than it did against TLU. Saturday LC had zero turnovers and against TLU the Cats had 3 (TLU had zero).

I look forward to cramming into TLU's new facility and watching the teams prove who is better on the field. There are definite playoff implications for the Bulldogs.

If nothing else, it will be interesting.

All I know is that it has been too long since I've posted and with this week's game being played up as much as it is, I cannot wait to hop on Toll 130 and leave a mark at Bulldog Stadium. I stopped by on the way home a couple weeks ago during their Homecoming and laughed at the size of the stands. The visitor's section is tiny, probably 1 section of GA at the CRUthedral. I went ahead and bought tickets online to ensure we can get in and be loud. A bonus for us is that they installed aluminum bleachers. I'm starting to have flashbacks to Tiger Field!

Anywho, hopefully Cantu is back in pads next week, he was in street clothes Saturday on the sidelines. Holmes (back up center) just hasn't been able to get the snaps consistent. Coach George was making him practice when the D was on the field. There is no doubt in my mind that TLU is going to try everything they can to stay undefeated at home and on the season, but I feel like the CRU will pull it together and rise to the occasion to get the W.

On the casual fan note, I was yelled at the first game by an older gentleman for yelling and standing too much. I sarcastically replied that "this isn't church." Consistent winning doesn't bring the rowdiness that the playoffs do and unfortunately, there won't be any changes in the near future. UMHB is regulating everything now and the rowdiness isn't being allowed like it used to at Tiger Field. All I know is that I will continue yelling and doing my duty as a young alum on game days.

This past Saturday was brutal. We jumped out to a lead and then the sun was unrelenting. I am not one to sit and not say much all game, but that heat took it out of me. Players were constantly getting electrolyte packs and fluids every time they came to the sideline. I'm sure whoever did laundry that night had a TON of towels to wash!

Kelly,

As opposed to him telling the paper " I totally lost track of the situation and would have spiked it had coach not come out."?  I know nothing about the kid, but just generalizing 20 year old males (having been that generalization), that's a infinitely hard sell to make.  However, his quote may very well be the truth.  Only he knows.  Even given the change of heart and in the process of calling a play with 6 seconds left, I still give LC no more than a 5% chance of getting it communicated to the position players, all the lineman actually blocking, successfully getting the snap off, executing the play correctly, and TLU not stopping it on top of all that.  So I'll give you 9.5/10 times.

Again, I agree the two teams looked evenly matched that day.

Some great banter as the game draws near! Great information and discussion.

As for fan base traveling, it will be significant. Hopefully everyone will get in that wants too. I know I will. My tickets are purchased.  ;)

I still feel that UMHB settled Saturday knowing TLU was watching. They'll come ready to play.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Now this is the fun I was talking about earlier.

To add some fun intrigue to the party, the TLU JV team just beat the UMHB JV team 37-34 on a last second field goal in Belton. That will make Saturdays varsity game the rubber match of the season as earlier in the year the UMHB JV beat them 38-24 in Seguin.

QB said the same thing in other postgame interviews. I give LC maybe a 2 in 10 chance of getting six on that play? But I'm not worried about that game as much as the pattern of giving up tons of points because those teams do not advance in the playoffs.

In my opinion had the officials called the game correctly the LC/TLU game would not have been close in the first place.

Was the officiating bad or something?

RLW

Very bad. The 2012 game was bad also. I would say watch the game and decide for yourself.

timtlu,

Nothing we say here will have an affect on the game. Saturday we will learn a lot about each team.

I do know this, after the first quarter against LC The CRU played uninspired ball, committed 4 turnovers and waltzed to a 21 point win.

I expect TLU will be more than ready come Saturday. As I previously said, this is a playoff game for the Bulldogs. TLU is going to hit UMHB in the mouth. If The CRU spits out a few teeth and responds to its potential, it will an "UP with the PURPLE" kind of day.

I'm looking forward to meeting up with fellow members of The CRU Nation on Saturday. It can be the melding of the Couch CRU (most recent wild and crazies) with the Phi-Tuba-Luba (wild and crazies from the '80s). Let's get together and make some noise.

Well I assume you were either at the game or watched the game live via internet feed so you probably have a better feel for how certain penalties affected the game.

But I am a stat junkie so looking at the play by play I don't see anytime when a penalty really seem to alter the game, well of course for the last penalty but I am assuming you approved of that piece of laundry.

Also looking at the numbers, TLU was penalized 10 times for 91 yards which falls right in line with their average of 10 times and 102 yards. On the flip side LC was penalized roughly the same as their average too.

Again I assume you watched much more the game than I did so I would actually like to know how penalties had a deep impact on the game but on paper that doesn't look to be the case.

A Tubes reference on the board...now that's exciting! It would be fun to see a couch cru tubes rowdy section, I'll by listening for it on then radio feed.

Another thing about the LC game which will also be true of TLU is they were coming off a bye week. TLU  will have had time to pre pare for both qb packages. As muchnass I would like to make the drive to Seguin, this weekend is just too busy so I'll be video feeding it.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I was at the game, in the third quarter TLU D lineman had the QB in the grasp in the end zone for a safety when the QB dumps the ball off and there are no receivers around (intentional grounding)Ruled in complete. If incomplete then should have been ruled roughing the passer. No penalty either way. Should have been 2 points plus kicking the ball back to TLU. Also a pass ruled incomplete after LC catch receiver turns takes 2 steps, tackled, fumbles before hitting the ground TLU recovers, again ruled incomplete. Both of these and a couple more would have been game changers. This all my personal opinion. I think it is sad for the players when a game is not called correctly. Sometimes it is the lack calls or miss interpretation of the rules. Not saying I'm an expert. As I said watch the game and you decide.

UP with the PURPLE!

You know the most recent Couch Cru crazies will be there in force! I just hope their stands have quality anchors for when the boots get to stompin! hsu didn't and had a couple planes loose last year. haha. If we get the decades of crazies there who won't just sit and be quiet, it will be a blast!

On another note, Pat is right. Teams that give up a bunch of points rarely get into the playoffs, unless they're an AQ conference. I expect it to be pretty sporty the first quarter with minimal scoring and then the CRU lines wear out the TLU guys to run away with it. Hopefully it'll be like the old days before they went to the SCAC.
