Hey guys and gals.  I'm new to the forum.  Just wanted to pop in and say hi.  I won't bore everyone with the details that let me to be a Cru fan, but suffice to say my wife is an alum and employee of UMHB and I am a current grad student.  I (obviously) love football and look forward to some fun discussions!

the JV played  2 games last year on in Belton in September and one in Abilene in October. I actually just received a Facebook message from one of the HSU coaches from last year saying the Cruthedral was nice when he was there for a devo game last season.

Welcome to the board.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Thanks for the welcome!   :)

So, the Cru faces HSU this week.  Both teams are unbeaten in the conference.  What are your thoughts on the game?  I know we have at least one member here who has his hands in both camps.  I like our chances, obviously, but you never want to overlook a game against a rival (even if it's been.... what?  10 years since they beat UMHB?).

Looking forward to an enjoyable afternoon in the CRUthedral!

HSU has a high powered offense and formidable WR's. They gave up some big numbers against other good Offensive teams, so it looks like their D is sketchy, but as I said, their Offense will come out blazing. I believe their offense to be like that of LC, honestly. I think like last week, we will see a spark as the Cru looks to attack their plan, and then we will take over the game.

HSU doesn't have a defense and hasn't for a long time. UMHB in a big way.

This feels like a trap or something, care to expand?

Yes, it is a carefully conceived trap. Over several years HSU laid the foundation of the trap by refusing to hold the CRU to anything less than 5 touchdowns.  They continued laying it in place by losing to you guys 63-7 last year. They then added to the deception by losing by more than 3 touchdowns to the team you just slaughtered. But understand, the trap was all laid for this coming Saturday. The Cowboys come out in their true colors, ending the ruse, and run roughshod over the CRU. It's hard to believe they would go to such great lengths, but it's true.

Or... HSU is just terrible and the teams they have beaten are even worse. I guess we will find out Saturday.

this response made me smile. I really wish this rivalry was more competitive, but my guess is the best thing about the trip to Belton from abilene this weekend is going to be the BBQ..

I like these boards. For the most part, the really elite team fans are pretty reasonable, don't lord it over other teams, and do a nice job of fitting in, even when there is such a huge disparity in the teams. But sometimes, well, it's good for a laugh. You gave those TLU guys so much hope they were thinking they were under-ranked because they were a threat to UMHB. The rest of us, unconstrained by not having to worry about looking like overconfident jerks, knew it wasn't likely to be a good game and had a nice chuckle out of it.

On to this week. HSU isn't a threat to UMHB unless UMHB shoots themselves in the foot. There isn't a game left on the regular season schedule that is a threat to UMHB. I'm not sure there was a serious threat on the schedule to begin with. UMHB still has to show up and play, but you don't have to worry about some HSU poster trying to lay a trap. We know the way this game is going to go, and it isn't going to be a close one...

Enjoy it UMHB folks. You have a great team. Yes the opponents have to be played and taken seriously, but you don't have to try and find ways to worry about every game.

I think some of the light treading is grace to the fans of the impending victims, but i think it is also rooted in the fact that we're still dealing with Texas football and lots of these kids were very good players on very successful programs but didn't meet the metrics to play at another level. Coaching and scheme ends up playing a huge role I the out comes and I think a huge part of UMHBs success is what coach Pete has installed and proliferated. At first it amped up the Texas high school boys, and now it attracts a higher level athlete as well. I think there remains an uneasiness because we know that it's possible the talent gels at just the right time, especially in a rivalry game. My expectation for this week is another monkey stomp, but i bet my stress level is still working my blood pressure meds pretty hard until there is a comfortable lead.

Yeah, I think it's more about giving your opponent respect.  All of us know that the Cru were/are favored in every game this regular season.

High for Saturday is 65 and partly sunny.  Hoping for a good turn out.

It is an interesting situation, I have often thought about what it would take for another team to not only beat UMHB but start a dominant run of their own. Obviously on any given Saturday each team has a chance of winning but UMHB clearly made some moves in the early 2000's that has placed it in an elite status. On the flip side I worry at the end of each year, is this Coach Pete's last year, as I give his leadership a lot of credit for the teams success.

No matter what, the CRU always gets up to play HSU and I hope to see a lot of purple and gold from both schools so that it can be a fun game experience.
