Admitedly I did not go to any playoff games last year so I probably shouldn't talk, an hour long drive and the cold and nobody to go with all adds up.

Ah, I see.  Makes sense.  I live 15 minutes away from the Cruthedral, so it's an easy drive for me.  Plus, as I said, the weather never gets bad enough here where I'd consider staying home.  Good point about the internet streaming, though.  Ours has gotten much better lately (I'm friends with the guy who heads it up at UMHB).  It allows me to enjoy those away games when I can't travel.

This is off the previous posts, but I just listened to Coach Padron's show on the TLU website, and he mentioned a couple of things that stood out to me.

#1, he said that they were missing someone on defense, and that played a role in the outcome. I can't imagine one guy making much of a dent, at this level, in a 56 point margin.

#2, he said that they are 7th in the regional rankings, and I'm wondering where he is getting this information.

Hmm, yeah.  #1 just sounds like he's trying to make excuses.  I'd have to hear the actual question/answer on that one.

I have known Coach Danny Padron for quite a while and he is a first class guy! I am a UMHB fan and an Austin College fan but I would not read too much into this statement.   I am sure he meant nothing in the way of excuses but was just filling in his crowd on all aspects of the game.  Danny doesn't act like that message could be received.

UMHB2001, Coach Padron continuously praised UMHB on their play, said they were a great team and deserved to win in that interview.  He did reference the missing defensive player saying that TLU missed him.  He didn't say that was the difference in the game.  From the interview you can tell that he was frustrated with his team's performance on Saturday as a coach should be.  As a TLU alum, I was frustrated with their performance.  I felt they could have played much better.  Coach Padron was not taking anything away from UMHB.  As Coach Padron said, "Mary Hardin-Baylor is a really good football team and there is no doubt about it", "you got to give credit to Mary Hardin-Baylor" and "a good team makes their breaks."  As for the 7 seed, he said, "I think we are the seven seed."  He based it on the fact that there are 5 undefeated teams and specifically referenced a sixth school that is also 6-1 that are competing for those non-AQ bids.

That's a shame.  When Wesley came to our stadium opening last season I met some really nice people.  They had great things to say about our program and the little rivalry we have with them.  But, I'm sure every school has a segment of fans that kinda ruin it for everyone else.  Sports bring out the best and worst of people.

You are correct. I know one or two don't represent the entire campus. But little things like that can leave a lasting impression on someone.

I don't know if anybody can match the townies at Mount Union.  I wasn't at the last MU/Wesley game, but the game before, they spent a lot of time talking garbage to the Wesley fans.  One even tried to pick a fight.  I was not impressed.  Add the pre-game warm-up BS the Raiders pulled with kicking the ball over to the Wesley side of the field and Cecil Shorts doing sprints across the field into the Wesley sidelines requiring everybody having to move aside for him.  That will always stick in my craw......

HSU doesn't have a defense and hasn't for a long time. UMHB in a big way.

This feels like a trap or something, care to expand?

I played ball at HSU under Burleson. There has always been more emphasis put on the offensive side of the ball than the defense. Then there's also that ugly black eye that my fellow cowboys seem to overlook.... HSU hasn't beaten UMHB since 2004..... Hardin-Simmons has had teams that could've gone deep in the playoffs had they had a formidable defense.

I think you read tone into my post. I was simply wondering where the seeding information came from.

Secondly, about the player, I was simply wondering how much of an impact one guy would make. Sorry if it came across negative. I know Coach Padron is an upstanding guy. I wasn't questioning his motives.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I don't believe Coach Padron was trying to imply anything in the sorts of "Well if we had we could have won" I believe he is a coach of a fine program trying to come to terms with the very lopsided defeat. I've been there myself, carrying a team undefeated to the last game then then losing by a point. Everything is humming along nicely and yeah your facing a giant but your side is operating smooth as quicksilver and then BAM...Not what you wanted or expected. As a coach and leader You have to show grace and confidence at this time because there is more to go, you still have work to do and things to accomplish. A good leader will look at this and grab what had transpired and make corrections, play paramedic to some shattered ego's and cheerleader to those who's spirit is deflated, I think TLU will bounce back from this, I think they will finish this year brutally strong with their conference play, they have to, Like the Cru did, they have to leave no doubt..period. Like I had mentioned before the game (UMHB/TLU) this one was for the Cru to establish their ranking and even begin laying a challenge to #1. TLU was a match up worthy of that and it did have it's effect, UMHB received more points in the D3 Ranking or rather a spread between MU and even some points for #1. I'd hate to say this but UMHB is playing a different role in the D3 than many others, as a top 5 ranked program there are alot of eyes on you, what you do, who you did it to, and where your going. It's not just doing well in your conference, it is doing well in comparison to the other top 4 powerhouse programs out there. It's also setting a tone for D3, I wonder how many look at the tops 5 and say "what do they do that we can do"
I also believe the players at UMHB saw what they really are capable of, a good stretch of the team combined against a stronger opponent, to me that is a compliment to TLU, I know that sounds weird but you have to admit their level of play was up, when you face the strong and rise up, you get stronger yourself and that is why I hope to see TLU, ETBU and all the others rise up.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Cru better get their act together. HSU looking like the better team right now. Anderson keeps holding the ball way too long and taking the sack

wesleydad

very interesting happenings at the top to the poll.  Top 2 struggling at or near the half.  UMHB o line looks like it is really having issues with HS d line.  Interested to see the second half.

Really aggressive play by the UMHB corner on that long HSU touchdown. That neutralized any momentum MHB had after the pick and touchdown pass.
