Please remember. In the NAIA, the individual school pays for the post-season.  In D3, the NCAA picks up the tab. For the sake of the D3 budget, the NCAA would do better if the ASC and SCAC as currently constructed went to the NAIA.

Linfield fan here, regarding the bolded wording above:

I'm told that the NCAA changed the D3 travel-reimbursement process this year and that taking the same number of players/coaches/staff on the charter flight to Texas this year as we took to Whitewater last year would have cost us several tens-of-thousands of dollars more out of pocket. To mitigate this financial hit, we sent a number of our folks to UMHB via commercial flights.

I guess the NCAA must be suffering financially and had to cut back somewhere. ???

This is correct -- we've talked about this elsewhere. While the roster size is the same for the playoffs, the NCAA is picking up the tab for fewer support staff because of financial concerns.

It's a raw deal for the support people. Instead of getting home late Saturday night with the charter they'll lose an extra day due to not being able to depart till Sunday. In one hand, it's awesome to be still in it, so it seems silly to complain, but on the other it sucks to see the NCAA piling up money left and right and D3 continues to get squeezed at every turn.

Speaking of money, does anyone know the percentage of the NCAA budget that D2 gets? I only ask because I was looking at their brackets which included a crazy thing called seeds and at least a couple of flights in the 2nd round and I got jealous. I thought to myself well maybe they make more money because they have greater attendance at playoff games which after some investigation was not even close to right. I have no idea if there membership fees are more expensive than D3 , but other than that I can't think of a reason that they would get more than we would.

The amount for D2 is just a little bit more than it's for D3 I think.

If you were not award ETBU's Josh Warbington is up for the Gagliardi Trophy.  He could use a little help from the conference.  If you get a chance please vote.

Yeah, I mentioned it on here the day the finalists were revealed.  Thanks for the reminder, though.  My vote has already been submitted.

In his final radio show of the season, Coach Fred began by pointing out the two huge mistakes made by Anderson without mentioning his name. I would take that to mean that Blake is in line to start next year without any setbacks that could pop up. He said that Blake's injury was feared to be a Liz Franc (sp) injury at first, but that further analysis has shown it not to be that.

When asked about the most dire needs, he mentioned that he felt linebacker was the biggest need. I don't doubt that he would feel that way being a defensive guy, but I also think center, DB, and QB to be important also.

As it is a double edged sword, he was excited to have an early start on recruiting.

Finally, he mentioned that when he took the job, he figured he'd only be at UMHB for a couple of years, but that he is glad it has turned into a longer gig, and that he loves being here.

The show will continue next week with other coaches from other sports, so I look forward to that.

Thanks for the notes.  I missed this last show due to graduate finals, so I was hoping someone would fill me in.  Some thoughts...

-I sincerely hope Blake steps up and competes for the starting job.  He has a lot of talent and potential.  On the other hand, I also hope that Zach works on his own problems and becomes a better QB for it.  I want nothing more than an intense battle for the starting position next fall.  It's always nice to know you have someone who's ready and waiting in the wings in case an injury or bad day occurs.  Also, let's not forget about T.J. Josey.  Kid has lots of upside (he has some really nice highlight reels from his high school days) and I hope he continues to mature.  I'd love to see him get more reps next fall.

-LB is a need, but the same can be said for lots of positions.  We had a fairly young team this year, so I'm really hoping that guys continue to step up.

-I'm really glad that Coach Pete has stuck around.  He's a great coach and mentor to these players.  Whenever he does step down (retirement), I hope that his vision and philosophy continues with the next staff.  Fortunately, it appears there won't be any big changes on the horizon.

Interesting.  What did he say specifically?  You can PM me, if you wish to keep it off the board, but I'm curious.

Like many others, I admire what MHB has become.  Great program.  I'm just curious what was said.

So in the off season let's post any news we get on positive (or not so) positive recruitment. I know one of the recruitment days was the HSU game - Alot of HS seniors were on the field during warm up and taking the tours on Bawcom and such.

The question posed was basically asking him why he felt the team lost, that he didn't have to name any names, but what did he feel like led to our defeat. Right off the bat he mentioned the fumble that led to the initial TD and the INT and that those two things really hurt us. He didn't go into great detail, only to suggest that they need to get better and be better than that. He really talked a lot about how the practices last week were mediocre, how the energy level wasn't there, and that everything was compressed because of the TLU weekend and the funeral for his good friend and former UMHB coach Sunday afternoon following the game. He wasn't making those out to be excuses, just that it all added up to a mediocre week.

That really surprised me because of the guys who faced UWW last year and MU the year before. They should know that you have to get up for the games, and that makes me think that there may not be a strong, vocal leader in the group. I could definitely be wrong on that, but that was my feeling. Coach Fred took responsibility for that and said he would take a look at himself, the other coaches, and the guys on the field to make corrections if there need to be some.

I've expressed interest many times with John Wallin, the UMHB SID, to record the shows and put them on the website like TLU does. He says that they haven't been able to iron those logistics out, which, personally, I don't understand, because it seems simple to me. But, I don't know all the answers, obviously.

I hope I answered your question.

The only way I ever hear any recruitment news is to search UMHB Crusader Football on Google and then hit the news button. They won't post any news about it as nothing is final until the recruit shows up to campus and pays their dues and such. The SID nor the school will make any announcements, but when I read them on the internet, I post them to Facebook. If you would like to "Friend" me there, feel free. Chad Hammonds in Belton.

I know that wasn't directed at me, Chad, but I believe we follow one another on Twitter already.  My handle on there in the same as my username here.  I'm on facebook as well.  Name is Christopher Gill (Salado, TX).  Any of you guys can feel free to add me!  I'd like to continue talking football even into the offseason, even if there isn't a whole lot of news.
