I know from talking to ASC teams the past two Augusts for Kickoff that the new coach is trying to change that. There were a lot of 2013 players who did not return in 2014.

Guess its as good of time as any to start posting previews of this week's games.

#1 Wisconsin-Whitewater at Belhaven (0-1)

Well, you have to give Belhaven some credit, they are really trying to hit it hard. After Whitewater, they play a road game at a Division II school, host the USA South favorite Huntington, then travel to UMHB.

I'm not going to beat around the bush, this one is going to be ugly. Any advantage that Belhaven could have had is gone, as the thermostat will be in the 80s instead of pushing 100. Belhaven will put up yards, and might get some points, but stopping Whitewater is going to be few and far between. Stranger things have happened, but this would be an upset of Sportscenter proportion. The Blazers have to focus on the positives of this season (getting to know opponents, new QB getting reps, etc.) and not get discouraged. Other than a Homecoming game against Warner, there are no sure wins on the schedule.

Three seasons ago, Belhaven lost a de facto conference championship game 21-17. Since then, they have gone 5-17, have a new coach, are in a new conference and even now in the NCAA. Been a strange ride for the few seniors on the team. Hopefully they can get it together and win a couple of games this season.

Belhaven is playing Mississippi College, which is just eight miles down the road -- I think you're giving them more credit than they deserve for scheduling up in that instance. UWW is the best team on their schedule by a long shot.

And a belated welcome to the board. Glad to have a Belhaven fan!

I just wanted everyone to know that I am still around.  I am not helping Ralph or doing any predictions due to the fact I will miss three weeks of the season due to a much anticipated three week vacation to Southern Africa during the latter part of the season.  I plan to be back in full participation mode for next year.  Once again, I will post when I think I can contribute to these boards.

I wasn't able to catch the stream of the game (bad connection where I was staying).  I tried keeping up with twitter and other sources.  So, I can't really comment on many specifics from the game.  D played well overall and cool to hear about Zane Boles getting a TD run at the end.  Glad to start off the season with a W.  Really looking forward to our first home game of the season on Saturday.  Hope to see y'all there!

Hal Mumme or no, yards and points will be hard to come by against this outfit.  They don't give it up very easy...defense does in fact win championships and these cats have 6 of the last 8.

It'll be a good workout for that young secondary, though.

My two-cents worth with regard to UMHB's win over OWU:

The game seemed to be almost a carbon copy of last year's opener with Millsaps. However, if Kickoff is accurate, then this OWU team is much better than last season's Millsaps squad. Kickoff predicts OWU to go 7-3 and finish second in the NCAC behind Wabash and Wittenberg. Millsaps was 3-6 last year.

The CRU defense was solid. OWU did have some success with QB keepers. Kickoff unit also gave up a couple of big returns.

Offense showed flashes of brilliance sprinkled in among a very lackluster, inconsistent performance. The QB play and O-line must improve if The CRU is going to make the playoffs and have a serious run to the Stagg. Receivers looked solid.

All in all, I think most of the issues are correctable and will be addressed. Time, however, will tell.

Was just browsing through the ASC games this past weekend and am wondering if anyone knows anything about the ETBU-McMurry game. I was surprised by the lack of offense from ETBU and then realized that their Gagliardi Trophy semi-finalist QB didn't play. On the ETBU athletic website it list him as a key returner on the preview for the McMurry game so I have to think it was a last minute thing. After averaging over 550 yards of offense last season and only throwing 11 interceptions all season, against McMurry they only managed 226 and threw 5 interceptions.

Almost Cruthedral time. Thankfully my grad class will be done by 5. Time for a Crudog and, hopefully, Crunilla ice cream.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Just watched the first few minutes of the ETBU-McM game and their radio crew said that Warbington did not play due to discipline issue. They did not elaborate on what it was or if it was just for this game or more.
