I felt the same way about Sul Ross when I saw them play in Week 1.  If they can maintain some consistency and keep kids there, they have a chance to become very good.  The administration needs to really push on fundraising to upgrade their very mediocre to inadequate facilities.  That place could be a great option for quality kids to come to school, play and stay there for 4 years.

One of the disadvantages they have is location.  There isn't a whole lot to see or do in (or anywhere near) Alpine.  Of course, the same can be said for a lot of towns in Texas.  However, they really are far removed from any major areas.  I imagine it's a real challenge to recruit with any sort of consistency.  I've never made the trip out there, but I've heard the same regarding their facilities.

TLU is in two weeks. We've heard the talk before and talk is extremely cheap. The business at hand is LC. UMHB gets every team's best shot every week, so The CRU must take it one game at a time.

UMHB has now won 59 straight regular season games. The last time The CRU lost in the regular season was on October 17, 2009, on the road to Mississippi College - 17-14.

One area of concern, at least to me, is run blocking. The CRU has not been as dominate this season as we have come to expect. I think we need to make some improvement in order to leave no doubt in respect to those who will be talking so much smack in the next few weeks. UMHB also needs to clean up the penalties.

Keep in mind, this is a rebuilding year for UMHB. There is a lot  of youth on both sides of the ball and the JV is rolling as well. The future is very bright.  8-)

Has anyone heard why Jackson did not play Saturday? They went from #1 to #3, I didn't notice anything in the game notes saying that Jackson was hurt. The Cru seems to do better when they are able to switch between Anderson and Jackson.

I have watched the Cru's D this year, and it looks and responds better than last year. Also, from the video, I don't think TLU has the O or D to hang. If UMHB can play like they are able, they will be just fine.

We won't here anything about any of the players who didn't play. I've inquired. No response.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

According to the radio crew he is/was battling turf toe, since he was in uniform I bet he would have come in if necessary but thankfully wasn't needed.

Over the next few weeks we will learn much about The CRU. The next three games will be the best competition UMHB has faced this season. LC always gets up for The CRU and Dennis Dunn will throw everything including the kitchen sink at the UMHB defense. Another factor is The CRU will travel for only the second time this season. Texas Lutheran will come to The CRUthedral on Oct. 24 having crawled back into the top 25. UMHB will travel to Abilene on Halloween to take on a resurgent Hardin Simmons team that, barring a huge upset by either SRSU or HPU, will come into the game ranked at least at #15.

Without the AQ, UMHB needs to play to its potential if The CRU is going to once again go CRUising in the playoffs.

I have to say the Sul Ross boys did come to play, coach was even commenting that if they keep this pace up with their program they could be a contender in the next few years.

I was pretty impressed with their QB in the first half.  He was really good at running toward the sideline and throwing back to the middle of the field.  They always seemed to have someone open on those short gains.  The Cru D made adjustments in the second half and took care of business.

I agree.  They were much improved over last year.  I can see their offense potentially giving weak defenses fits.

I agree.  When TLU opened the season against them in Alpine, I thought Sul Ross State looked so much better than in the past two years.  They still have a long way to go but they were more than just competitive.  I recall several years there where Sul Ross State had a new head coach each year.  I believe this is their head coach's second year there.  Hopefully, he continues to bring stability and improvement for that program.

The link has a good review of the game Saturday, and unfortunately, it sounds a bit similar to what we have heard in years past... "We didn't practice inspired this week. We didn't play inspired today. The thing that we have to realize is that it doesn't matter who we play, we can't play like that." These kinds of quotes have become commonplace from Coach Fred. Again, this goes back to what I have said before, it seems like our success has caused an entitlement feeling rather than a passion to further the success and hold on to the success. I know Coach Fred doesn't feel this way and has taken steps to fix this. I hope it continues to pay off.

Can't look past LC this week. They are better than they have played and will play hard against UMHB. Looking forward to the outcome and paying attention to the game while in grad class!  ;)

Sadly, you will always have a certain segment of players who feel entitled.  It's just something that goes along with continued success.  Hopefully the older guys on the team step up and lead by example.  As others have said, there is no AQ right now for the ASC.  Every week should be played as if it were a playoff game.

I hear you, 2001, some old song and way too many verses. The CRU needs play to its potential each and every week no matter who happens to be the opponent. I hope UMHB comes out strong against LC. We need to put teams away and not let them hang around and leave the door open for an upset. I hope The CRU paid attention to what happened to Whitewater this past Saturday. Every team that plays one of the top programs is gunning to be THE team that takes down UWW, Mount Union, Linfield, Wesley, UMHB etc... I am sure LC, TLU and especially HSU is licking their chops waiting to tear into The CRU. Without the AQ, a loss to any one of those teams will place playoff hopes in jeopardy. UMHB needs to come out and play to the level of talent the team possesses and take care of business from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Although TLU will be, in my estimation a great game, the UMHB/HSU match up I think will be the toughest. We are away, and HSU is looking for a W to hang. HSU Last year if I remember was a tough first half. Cru & the Cowboys I think it will be a good one, anyone else going to travel? unless there are changes in my scheduling I will be there in Abelene

I know it's been discussed, but can someone tell me again why the ASC doesn't have an AQ this year? Is it because of the new teams coming into the conference?

Yep. Belhaven and McMurry don't count yet so the conference only has 6 "counting" teams and ran out of grace period.
