You can always tell when its UMHB-HSU week due to the media coverage in both cities as well. On top of the great article on the front of D3foootball.com another article came out today from Abilene about Baylor Mullins and his father that can be found here http://www.reporternews.com/sports/columnists/marc-david/mullins-enjoys-playing-for-dad-at-mary-hardinbaylor_30659386

Now those were the days, I was a student from 04-07 and the battles that took place on social media were also quite fun.

In other news UMHB has now posted their game notes http://www.cruathletics.com/news/2015/10/29/FB_1029155810.aspx

Solid write up of the upcoming UMHB/ HSU Game from HSU's site

HSU and UMHB both have solid SIDs and sports information departments.

Chad Grubbs is among the elite in the country.  HSU is lucky to have him.

There is now another HSU fan on the board. I follow the board regularly but haven't posted in years. Minni good to see you put us back in the game. I didn't want you to be lonely so I thought I would join the conversation.

I think this is the year for HSU to get back on top. They are much more balanced than in years past and I think most well suited to do so. The biggest hurdle for a team that clearly is much more talented, mature and disciplined than in years past is getting over the hump mentally and eliminating those mistakes. UMHB has basically owned us for the last 10 years with a few close matchups sandwiched in there. Some have mentioned that TLU only lost by a TD to us but that UMHB won by 4 TDs. The biggest difference to me in these games is that UMHB knew how to put the game away and made the right plays to do it with a few huge Special Teams plays as well as the 56 yarder to Wimby.

If you look at the TLU-HSU game HS went up 26-14 in the 3rd Quarter and then on the next 3 possesions fumbled, turned it over on downs in TLU redzone, and then threw an INT and then had to score a TD on their last drive to retake the lead.  UMHB was up 28-17 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. UMHB clamped down and made big plays to take over the game. This is what teams who know how to win do.

I think obviously UMHB has great athletes and is coached well but to me there is a difference in teams who know how to win and know how to close out games and those who don't. I think UMHB did just that last Saturday. HSU (in wk 2) won but struggled to put the game out of reach.

I think HSU is learning this year once again what expecting to win and preparing to win looks like. It seems they match up much better than in years past but will need to play a near perfect game and force UMHB into some uncharacteristic mistakes to really have a chance to win. I am confident it will be close but to win they will have to bring a little something extra to the table.

I think this conference is better when there is a legitimate fight for the championship. Heres to hoping for a great game Saturday in Abilene!

Figured I would join in on the fun conversations, take it easy on me Cru fans I come in peace.   I just wanted to show my loyalty to the Cowboys before Saturday that way if we happen to pull off the upset I wouldn't be thought of as a bandwagon fan.  I could not agree with you more hsucowboy73....your post is spot on.  We are still learning to and need to be better at finishing teams, a similar situation happened with Sul Ross, it was 21-0 in the blink of an eye but for some reason I felt like we were in a dog fight the rest of the way.  I am very much looking forward to this Saturday as a true measuring stick of where the program is at.  It will no doubt take our very best effort and a near perfect game to get the W this Saturday.  Here is hoping for safe travels for the Cru fans and an injury free game for both teams.

while I am looking forward to Saturday, and will be at the game, we should not forgot that Belhaven travels to Abilene saturday to play McM. since I talk to McMurry folks regularly I can say this one is important for some folks, and there are fans that want nothing more than to see Mumme handed his rear. if umhb/hsu wasn't at the same time, I'd be checking this on out.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
