UMHB learned the hard lesson that you can't expect to just show up against a good team, mess around for half the time like they do in most of their games against lesser teams, and expect to walk away with a win. Sadly, they probably just squandered a home playoff match up (I was looking forward to bringing the family up for a 1st round game), and may have squandered the playoffs altogether. A pretty heavy price to pay for complacency.

Winning out should happen, unless we totally choke away the rest of the season. Which brings us back to HSU week one.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Well said UMHB03...but The Cru must win their last two games taking control of those games from the kick-off all the way to the final whistle without leaving a doubt in anyone's mind...then just maybe The Cru might get a Pool C bid and taking all their games on the road. It's a very costly lesson to learn.
I agree. but we will have a First Round #1 vs (no worse than) #4 in the Texas Sub-bracket.

I'll say it again...Anderson choked big time! He needs to be pulled and have someone else in there. The last series the WR's lacked a sense of urgency getting back to the line for a hurry up offense.

Hats off to HSU, they showed up to the game to win...UMHB played as if they were entitled to the win instead of going out there and playing no nonsense football getting the win!

Anderson choked because a defense showed up to play.

Sorry Minni, not to dis credit the HSU defense. But Anderson choked because he is an average QB, and that's a generous assessment of him to be honest. QB has been the weakness for UMHB for 3 seasons now. It's OBVIOUS. He didn't take a step down in his play today, he played just like he's played all year. And just like the last two seasons, when we play a top 10 caliber team he isn't up to par. He threw a pick 6 against SRSU and should've had another one on top of 2 other balls that should've been picked against the Lobos. You can get away with that against teams like Sull Ross but when it comes to HSU, Lindfeild, Whitewater, those mistakes cost you the game.

And everyone saying the defense let us down? That's hog wash. The defense is as good as any Cru defense I've seen, when the offense goes 3 and out over and over and puts our defense in horrible feild position they can only do so much. This is an offensive issue, and a QB issue just like its been for years. I've consistently watch UMHB lose to teams with superior QB play. Time to give someone else a shot. Just my opinion

Crufrenzy, no need to apologize, I wont let you discredit the defense that has done something the a UMHB offense that hasn't been done in a while, and that's get shut down.  The defensive play by HSU was stellar.  They bent and bent and bent and never broke.  When the game was on the line they stood strong and came after the UMHB and made the difference.  So you can come on here and make excuses all day long for your offense, but the defense for HSU was top notch today.  They have come together very well this season.  They have grown up and they have learned what it takes to win a big game.  Something that hasn't happened at HSU in a while.  So with all due respect sir, you can take your "not to discredit" load and......nevermind!!!!

Great Job HSU Cowboys.  Defensive line was a beast today.  You boys brought it down after down after down and won the game in the trenches today.

I guess you would have to say both teams D's shut each other down today based on what each team has been doing all season.

I hope we get another shot at HSU first round, beating a quality team like UMHB or HSU twice in a year is tough to do. In fact I think the last time this played out it worked well for us.

Haha, I obviously wasn't dis crediting the HSU defense. In fact I said they were a TOP 10 Caliber team. And I wasn't making excuses. I was identifying UMHBs problem that is becoming a reoccurring trend when playing other TOP 10 teams! Not sure where the confusing is there?

And DOC,  I don't have any personal issues with the guy? I don't think I took any shots at anyone's character. in fact everything I said about Anderson was regarding his PLAYING ability. Just making the point that the QB position is obviously a position we need to look at in order to address the frustrating trend of losing against the other solid programs.

I am sorry you started your post off with, "Sorry Minni, not to dis credit the HSU defense."  am I missing something?  You obviously were "dis crediting" our defense!!!!

I wouldn't call 415 total yards, shut down.  But I am a little HSU biased!!  Or allowing 29 points when you give up on average 10.5 per game.  or giving up 100 yrds rushing for the first time all season.  But hey you shut them down.

Well I have to admit it, crow does not taste good, and a very good win to HSU, I just have one thing to say, Ramos... that kid can play! very deceptive and able to get his separation when needed. Actually I am reading all the back N forth and I am not sure what game I was at but here is what I saw there, a fired up HSU came out, the Cru built up in the second half to close it, the third quarter, HSU seemed on fire but again the Cru stepped it up in the third, but it wasn't till the end of the fourth, and I have seen that look before, a powerful, well disciplined team just deflates. I have had it happen more than once to teams in all my years coaching and have seen it from time to time. No one can put your finger on it, no one can describe it, it is almost like a fog rolls in and even the easiest tasks become difficult. HSU, fired up in the final 5 and simply.. wanted that win. I won't hammer either side, both were working it, both drove for the win, The Cowboys just rose up at the right time. I was surprised by the Cowboys ground game though, wasn't sure it existed, Yeah it's there.
So I will gobble my crow with a nice Chianti...I hope that the Crusaders land in a bid for post season, and that HSU takes it to the teams they face (Unless like last year it is round one texas style). Ya'll have ETBU Next week, clobber 'em (I'm not too keen on that program)

The stats show the close game it was. It doesn't seem fair to lay the loss at the feet of the UMHB qb. His completion percentage was close to the HSU qb's. And no interceptions. Besides, it is a team game. Win or lose.
DFWCrufan's take looks pretty fair. And classy.

If it was just a game or two that would be different. But, it happens more often than not that Anderson will hold onto the ball for a loss instead of throwing it out of bounds. Not reading the defense and letting them reach him for a loss. Taking too long to find an open receiver and then throwing too short, in front or behind the receiver or too high over the receiver's head. Like its been stated earlier that Anderson is an average QB, but when you play Top 10 teams an average QB is going to have a harder time stepping to the occasion. I don't blame Anderson for the play selection, that comes in from offensive coordinator which is a whole other topic. If Anderson had better abilities he would be given the option to change things up as the defense changes.

Congrats to the Cowboys on a hard earned win. HSU made big plays when needed. I hope The CRU gets a rematch in round one of the playoffs.

Unfortunately for both teams, if UMHB makes the playoff (which I think they will), they will have to face each other in the 1st or 2nd round (not too bad).
