Wow!!!! What an epic game.   I for one was exhausted as fan I think I regained consciousness about an hour ago.  Thank you to the cru nation for the congratulatory remarks posted after the game.  My son is a freshman so all this is new to me, but I now know that you guys are a class act.  Let's win out, I would be shocked if we both do not make the playoffs (but I guess stranger things have happened). It would be a shame for the  two of us to meet in round one or two, because i believe We both should be ranked in the top of the polls and would mean an early exit for a really good team.  Just my opinion though.  Once again, very classy Cru fans, much respect.

since you are new to this, you might not know that there is a nightmare scenario in which HSU has a let down and let's ETBU get them next week, while UMHB wins out leaving a 3 way tie for 1st and no AQ. So, the most important thing is for HSU to stay focused and tcob. Assuming both win out, UMHB will probably be back in Abilene in 3 weeks. a few years ago they did split UMHB and McMurry up in round one, but three Texas teams got in so they could. that's not happening this season.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I am going to say some things that may raise a few hackles but I think it is fair. The UMHB loss maybe a good thing. (maybe I said) here is why, once you get into a groove of constant wins it becomes a given rather than a earned thing. I had a program which went two years straight undefeated till deep in the playoffs. (sound familiure) all of a sudden my juniors and seniors at seasons beginning were already saying "Oh we face so in so and so in so, this will be easy" come season, we lost to a program that should not have been an issue (not reflecting that HSU is that way, they deserve their praise, their ranking and their victories) and that is my point, That cold water to the face kinda moment, hey, your not invulnurable and as the top rank you are a target, everyone wants to knock you off.
It also shows that the ASC is not a weak league and has some serious contenders in it. So in a weird, all things have a cause and effect kinda way this could breath alot of life into many programs. HSU will be able to recruit far better, the Cru will know they have to come to every meeting with a leave no doubt attitude, UMHB has the talent, the desire and the drive. ETBU can say 'Look at that we could do that" Sul Ross can keep on improving etc etc etc...
So while it's not the end of the world, it might be the end of the season, but hey Linfield lost and they rebounded nicely. This my crunatic friends and fans is where character is built, do the guys look at this, come out the next two games and handle them as needed? or do they come out in a let down, this kinda sucks, whoa is me way? I think they will come out and unleash the beast, and that just might take them deep into a playoff, Assuming they land in the pool.
I also hope the best for HSU...I was at the game, it was kinda cool to see the fans rush the field although I thought you were supposed to stay off for 10 minutes, but oh well, guess that went out the window. And let's not pound the Cru, they did play and play well, but so did the Cowboys and I was entertained, yeah my beloved Cru lost, but I still had a smile on my face, I saw a great game.

First thing I will say is congrats to HSU, they played a great game and deserved to win.

Assuming everything plays out the way we expect, I am bummed that I already know I can't make the potential trip to Abilene for a rematch. And speaking of nightmare situations, at this point I am not going to be surprised if after the Texas Sub-Bracket, the winner will get to board a plane for the Island Sub-Bracket to face Linfield.

This is my first chance to browse the board since the game ended yesterday.  Congrats to the Cowboys.  Y'all were the better team on Saturday.  If each team takes care of business the next few weeks, I assume there might be a rematch in Round 1.  I'm not even looking at the playoffs right now, though.  It's more important to me to see how the team responds next week.  If they come out looking dejected and apathetic, there will be some major concerns going forward.  This is unfamiliar territory for the players, and I can only hope the coaches and leaders step up and right the ship.

It appears the ASC just got a whole lot more interesting again!  Go Cru.  Bounce back.

I was at the game yesterday and thought it was a fantastic game and atmosphere.  Here are a few of my thoughts (I have 0 ties to either school.)

1. Great atmosphere and great crowd.  I think Shelton Stadium is a very nice small college venue.  That place got very loud in the last few minutes and both crowds showed a lot of class towards each other.
2. Do they not call holding in TX?
3. Both teams gave each other some help with mistakes.  UMHB seemed to drop a lot of passes that could have extended drives and HSU gave up the blocked punt.  HSU roughed the kicker on a missed FG...Both sides benefitted from the others mistakes.
4. Ramos is an absolute game-changer.
5. The middle of the d-line really stepped up for HSU in the last drive of the game for UMHB.  Those are some big, athletic bodies in the middle.
6. I suspect a rematch in a few weeks (assuming both take care of business) and unfortunately, the winner will head to Linfield for round 2.  That 2nd round game will put 2 very good football teams against each other earlier than I would like to see, just like Linfield going to UMHB last year for round 2.

Great day all around and I enjoyed the chance to talk with some other posters.  Good luck to both squads the next 2 weeks.

Only new to the HSU/UMHB rivalry, not new to football.  I could see were my post would appear I am assuming we are already in although I did say "let's win out", and I realize there are no AQ and nothing is guaranteed, trust me I full well know the impoortance of next week because it is the next game on our schedule, I don't see this team having a let down, this coaching staff allowing a let down against ETBU. We must take care of business as you said.  WeRideWeWin

my remarks were specific to the rivalry. The ASC has had a few funky end of season scenarios that were the result was a 3 way tie. 03 is the best example because etbu beat UMHB UMHB beat HSU and HSU beat etbu so all had 1 loss. ETBU got the AQ because of the tie breaker and both UMHB and HSU were left out of the party. The same potential exists right now. ETBU AND HSU are tied so a let down loss would set up a UMHB ETBU game to potentially split the championship 3 ways. That would not be good for UMHB or HSU because ETBU has a bad loss to McM and a loss to TLU. Since playoffs are chosen by committee rather than AQ, that could hurt both schools chances

I know that everyone is upset for our loss to HSU on Saturday. But, lets get out to the CRUthedral on Saturday when we play Howard Payne and show the football team that we are still behind them and have faith that they will finish up the season strong...one game at a time! The loss might also help fix a problem I've notice for a number of years now. Many of The Cru fans show little emotion while sitting in the stands as if they were at a tea party. I'd like to see our fans as outgoing as the HSU fans were on Saturday. Having everyone get up on their feet after a positive play by The Cru would be a great start. So, as you mingle through the CRUthedral on Saturday pass on to everyone you come across to stand up and cheer loud and clear for The Cru when they play the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne!

Agreed, but this will not happen. I had a guy tell me once at Tiger field to stop whistling, stomping, and yelling because it was messing up his binoculars.

The fans are spoiled, and half the time they are on phones or reading a book. I hate to say it, but it's the truth.

I'll say it again...Anderson choked big time! He needs to be pulled and have someone else in there. The last series the WR's lacked a sense of urgency getting back to the line for a hurry up offense.

Hats off to HSU, they showed up to the game to win...UMHB played as if they were entitled to the win instead of going out there and playing no nonsense football getting the win!

I don't think Anderson choked. He played well, had a few bad throws due to nerves, but didn't turn the ball over. That last series was on the o-line. They were over powered. Strange to see that from a Cru line.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Completely agree 2001 that was a serious game, it wasn't a choke, let's be honest, HSU's D just beasted in the last two minutes, but let's not forget that UMHB's D beasted just before stopping the HSU drive. That is the game...Yeah would we like to have seen Zach go out of bounds rather then hit the turf, but is that inexprience, or his desire to get it done, a belief in his recievers to get loose. Either way, the last four was intense. Call it what it was a great freaking game.

What a great game on Saturday between HSU and UMHB ... good for the ASC and good for DIII football!  I expect to see both these teams in the 32 team playoff field.
